QMX Malcolm Reynolds Metal-Plated Pistol Replica

Yes, I have to agree- Thank you again GGD for personally reaching out to me to help with my pistol issues.

Also, if anyone is willing to roll the dice on the pistol without direct QMx service... Redford Films is having a "moving sale" today, so everything is an additional 20% off. The Mal pistol drops down to about $58 shipped.

Hmmm.. seeing some better examples of barrels is making me seriously reconsider asking for a replacement. As long as they're being inspected before shipment that works for me as I just want to be sure I don't get one like Serenity's! :lol

Thanks QMx GGD for stepping in and speaking up despite the chance you may be treated as a emotional punching bag!

LOL Dorian, I'm insane. It helps. :;):

And, tbh, I just know the people I work for and with and -- I know there's a real commitment to making cool stuff and getting it right. I've worked for a lot of companies in my day. It's rare to find one this committed to making cool things for fans and actually caring what they think.

Kerr,

If you want me to promise I'll peek at it personally, then mention me in the email and I'll handle the return and reship.

;-)

I was soo hoping i would get good one but this one will have to go back , the barrel is crooked all the way to the receiver. Ticks me off because the rest of the gun is actually pretty nice. No warps, chips, the trigger guard is nicely cleaned up. Same issue as the others with grip fit but that doesn't bother me. The thumbwheels are angled a tad inward but again i could live with that, you can't see it unless you look from the top down. I think it feels nice and metalish. Seriously, if the barrel was straighter i would be happy as heck. The barrel is a killer though so i'll be contacting custmer service tommorow.

Mine showed up today, and the muzzle is broken clean off :unsure

QMx promptly responded to my email notifying them of the issue, and they're sending me a FedEx label to return it. After they receive the returned item, they'll send me out a replacement.

It's a shame too because it looks like the barrel would have been straight on this one... :(

I got mine today, and it ain't half bad. Yeah it's not perfect, it has a few flaws here and there (the most visible one is the bad fitting of the grips) but nothing that makes fail the inspection. The barrel looks straight (my own eyes are crooked trying to find any angles on that thing) the thumbwheels too, and the trigger guard just have a tiny bit of a seam on the inside. Long story short: to my surprise, I like it a lot. The brushed weathering looks nice nonetheless, and while it doesn't feel like metal at all, it has a nice little heft that makes it fun to handle. I'd feel guilty to return it at this point. ;)

EDIT: I take the last point back, it feels a little bit like metal. All of the surface stays cold to the touch except for the grips, adds a very welcome realism. It's really growing on me. :)

Aren't these the same people who make the insanely expensive, very not big replica of Serenity?

BTW how do you call something 19" long a Big Damn Replica?

Please tell me this was a joke? Surely you don't expect them to make a moving trigger for an $80 replica...

I've had moving triggers in $5.00 replicas. They still move and they're still fun. The Han Solo Elite has a moving trigger, the Golden Gun has a... well, flappy trigger, the Fifth Element Korben Dallas has a moving trigger, and even the M41A Pulse Rifle has a moving trigger. Call me spoiled, but static triggers are a deal breaker for me.

Last time I bought without looking, I had a stormtrooper rifle with a static trigger. It looked very hollow next to my other replicas. Had to give her a new home.

Curious, how big does it need to be before it can be called Big Damn Replica? Because I think it's pretty Damn Big. Also, if I recall this was named by the fans that were following the development of the replica.

30 inches minimum. More like 3 feet.

At 19 inches it's smaller than some of the standard Enterprise models. Don't get me wrong, it looks real nice but,..wow one heck of a price tag for 19".

I don't know how it started but it's called Big Damn Replica on their website.

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer a moving trigger as well. But I don't see how you can expect that in an $80 piece. The cheapest thing I could find that you mentioned (the Korben Dallas gun) was over twice the price. What $5 replicas are you talking about?

EDIT: It was 3 times the price, the version I found was in euros.

The whole "Big Damn..." thing is a play on one of the conversations in an episode from the series. Fans started using it as a term to describe the characters as "Big Damn Heroes" (which is the original line) and then movie - "Big Damn Movie". This spun off into the other things that QMx is using it for now, including their ship model and the mini-maquette line.

Anywho...

A buddy has been after me to watch Firefly for some time. I just finished and watched it a second time right away.

Prop pickens are not so great.

A rare metal Mal gun. A if your lucky you get one without a bent barrel, Mal gun. An very pricey model. A cheaper very small and not terribly impressive model, and that's about it. A few other little things here and there.

I can't believe one of our talented members has not made a good Mal Gun (recently) and a good, real big, Serenity ship. Just 3 or 4 feet is all.

I would already be building a 3 to 4 ft Serenity model if I had the skills or talent.

The show is over ten years old now, has always been and will always be a niche crowd and there is a licensee with the rights to replicas. Slim pickins are better than no pickins.

Yup. Firefly props aplenty have graced these pages when the DVDs were released, (not so much when the show aired....:rolleyes) and the 'cult' started.

The considerable resurgance in interests from newbs wanting Mal guns has been a bit of a surprise. Oh, nostalgia for those Phil-gun/Sidkit glory days :)

QMX owns the license and is obviously producing Firefly merchandise. I'm sure none of our members want to poke at possible legal issues.

I received both guns over a week ago and not very impressed ,however thinking of cutting them both up for spare parts.......lol.........I would love to have someone make parts to make a real prop and just purchase a taurus 85 and build one .....someday it will happen......I will use these as references and a learning experience on resin castings once again ,heartbroken.......

All true, although the license issue is odd as sometimes it's an issue and sometimes not. EFX has all kinds of competitors on here and don't seem to mind.

I think the small nitch issue is a real factor.

However at some point someone here will build a nice big Serenity and I will be first in line.

A new metal Mal gun would be nice as well.
