Hi, I am currently making a sword prop from a videogame and I'm trying to use a Silver Dupli-Color Chrome Effect Spray Paint for the blade.
The color is perfect for what I'm making, but the paint itself is pretty weak, it can leave fingerprints and dents really easily.
I wanted to ask if there was a way to proctect the paint since I'm planning to bring the prop outside. (I heard that clear coat does not like chrome paint, but I still have to test it).

With paint like Dupli-Color, being a Lacquer, or Enamel, any clearcoats of the same chemistry, will not work. It will Just turn it
Dark grey/silver. But you could use Mop and Glo, Floor Finish. I think it's called Future wax, or pledge floor wax. It has
changed names through the years, but the same product. It is not a solvent, so it works pretty good. It can dull it a tiny bit, and
you don't want to pile it on. put a couple coats, letting it dry in between. It's self leveling, and sprays nice through an airbrush.
I have brushed it on for small spots, but not anything very big. Just do a spray out, so you can see how it works. If you put
too much on, it can blush ( turn white ).
Some people say you can put a high gloss Lacquer clear over the Floor wax stuff, cause it provides a barrier. You would
have to experiment on that one, not tried it yet.

I was newver happy withany of the clear coat options for blades. When I did my Emperor Georgio sword from ST: Discovery, I ended up using adhesive backed metal foil used in AC duct work. Fingerprints wipe off and it can even be polished to some extent.
