Prometheus (Post-release)

Just like Avengers, I watched Prometheus again to see if I still liked it as much as I did when I saw it in theaters.

Yes, even more so.

It's just a great movie.

Even if no sequels are made, there are a ton of thought provoking ideas put out in Prometheus. The fact that this thread just wont die is an example of how even the ones who hate this movie, still cant stop talking about it. Maybe they like it more than they realize.

I found it perfectly entertaining. Though I was almost driven to distraction looking for all the Alien tie in stuff. I'm sure it will look sharp as all hell on BD. One of the prettiest movies I saw this year easily.

No kidding!

I just clicked on this thread because I thought "Really? Folks are still talking about this one?" :lol

Wasn't a bad flick. Really hoped to have some Alien rampage going on but we all knew we weren't getting that.

Well, well. Its a strange old universe. "Prometheus" has managed to break the $400 million barrier this week making it THE TOP box office "Alien" film in the franchise. Bearing in mind the DVD pre-release performance are looking strong at the end of the day the profit returned is going to be easily good enough to prompt a sequel to be funded at the very least. Fox have not had much in the way of box office winners this year but Prometheus was most definitely one of them.
As a film that divides opinion its still getting plenty of reaction and no doubt the DVD is going to kick start it again ,given the extensive extras listed. I will read with interest the comments posted.I still cannot find it in my heart to forgive the terrible writing in this film, particularly given the standard of some of the more excellent lower budget productions around this year ,though Prometheus is perhaps the most beautifully designed and shot film of this year. Yet I still find myself watching and listening to the trailer with more than a touch of sadness. Still, lets pray for a better sequel unwritten by he who shall not be named but who should remain forever lost to the plot .

Well, to be fair the cast in ALIEN did know what was going to happen as they could see how it was all set up and had to be filmed a few times due to the alien puppet not initially breaking though the shirt. The amount of blood and gore ejected was what was unexpected, especially for Veronica Cartwright who's reaction and subsequent fall was the most dramatic. :)

They had also read the script.

The whole thing got blown out of proportion over the years, but Bryan hit it on the head.. it was the execution and the amount of splatter that they weren't expecting. My favorite bit from the BTS doc is Dan O'Bannon talking about watching the actors come on set, seeing all the plastic covers on everything, and seeing their faces drop as they realized what was about to happen. At that point, they knew it was going to get messy, but Veronica caught some spatter right in the face (which completely freaked her out), hence her reaction and flipping over one of the benches.

Awesome sequence.. lol.

One thing I'm curious about...After seeing commercials for the DVD and Blu-ray release, it says it will be in stores Tuesday, which is the 10-9-12....I thought it was alluded that the release would be 10-11-12, and that was that. This does not seem to be the case...

Either it was a mistake for people to assume 10-11-12, or they found logistics more difficult or expensive due to shipping and releasing on a non-release day and decided to release on Tuesday along with everything else.

Me, I think the first is more likely.. that everyone saw the 10-11-12 thing going on (whatever that is, I honestly haven't followed it), and when Fox announced the release for an unspecified date in October, everyone just jumped to the conclusion. I don't think there was ever an official announcement with a specific date other than 10-9. I'm not complaining, I get it two days early, I'll pick it up on the way home Tuesday. :)
