Does anyone know
We were wondering about this afterwards. I'd like to see the script for this, actually. The original, as well as the shooting script. What David said to the Engineer?
Here's my other question: the "snake alien worm thingie" - did it get its form from the little worms seen in a few close-up shots?
And how did the ancient civilisations could create that accurate star maps? I mean one inch off and it would lead to a complete different solar system wouldn't it?![]()
Why did the celestial map lead to the alien 'biological weapons of mass destruction facilities' and not say, their home planet instead?
Thought about this a lot and came to an answer while sleeping last night.
Is it possible that there are two different factions of engineers.
One that helped create and guide us while another that abhors them and therefore us.
That might be possible. Also the moon might not always have been a weapons depot.
Over the thousands of years the more peace loving engineers may have been wiped out and the ones we see are the militant ones.
I remember seeing the original spaceship at the beginning of the story being circular in shape.
Well, personally I don't think the Engineers wanted to destroy humanity.. To me it seems more like they wanted to create a perfect being and perhaps turn themselves into one (that's may be the reason for the mural, I dunno).. It doesn't seem as if the black goo was really a weapon (I mean come on, if you really want to wipe out a planet, to maybe reuse it, I wouldn't use something that creates big bad monster you have to get rid of too).. For all we saw the black goo was speeding up the evolutionary process of things...
Theoretically, the Engineers could have used earth as a kind of field test, leave them a message to know when they are developed enough and then start the next phase of the experiment.
The red space suits were a big tease. We saw them several times, they were the coolest looking, then never used.
And I also hate the Space Jockey redo. "oh hay, it's just a helmet."
I do wonder - why did the Engineer decapitate David like that? David speaks to him in his tongue - what did he say? Or was this analogous to an ant learning to speak and asking us a question?
See, a great movie, with people talking, wondering, so many reasons, directions, no need to tell the whole story at once, especially if more movies are planned. So many different ways of looking at and talking about Prometheus it's connections to Aliens. So much "juicy stuff". The "engineers" were mortal, not gods or God. To me mortal is fallible. Who knows? Things never go exactly as planned. Multiple factions, agendas. Unexpected results. These engineers could speculate what could happen, but although very advanced, couldn't see the future. Maybe they saw a real threat develop elsewhere, and were going back trying to clean up a worse mess, starting with humans. Wouldn't it be something if they connected to the Predators in a future movie? What ifs abound!
I was ok with the red space suits not being used. They were prepared for multiple environments. They didn't have to use them.
What do you mean Space Jockey re-do? It wasn't a re-do, the human crew in Alien didn't examine it. This is more of a problem of some people thinking they knew the story then finding out they don't. None of us know, or knew the origin of the species.
This story works, you seem to have a problem with it because it doesn't match your already completed understanding, your version of the story. It's science fiction. How many times do people follow a hypothesis, only to find the result they were looking or thinking they would find was in fact wrong. For example, scientists for years thought that the universes were moving away from each other, and their speed was slowing down. When they got to the point of being able to test the theory, they find out they were wrong, the universes were not slowing down, but in fact speeding up. Then we have new theories of black matter, anti-matter or whatever making the universes speed up. Some of you are too rigid in your expectations.
I think people are throwing around the term "plot holes" again to suit their arguments. This happens often.
A plot hole occurs when an inciting incident in a story is not closed by the end of the film. As far as I can tell from first viewing, this does not happen in the film at all.
It is not a subjective thing. You cannot have an opinion about it. It is either there or not and I recall no instances of it.
