OKIE Iron Man MK VI (10/25 FINISHED )

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (Shoulders and Chest Primed)

i love the progress. got a question for you. how do you plan on doing the feet and how the heck do you size them. once i do mine im just worried about wearing them and about them cracking from my weight on top of them

Thanks! I stuck with the default scale because I'm 6'. And the foot looks to be right. I have already hardend both of them and completely filled the toe and heel with smoothcast 300. ITS HEAVY! but hopefuly wont crack or break.

really nice bust !!!

THANKS!

just my 2 cents worth or 2 pence worth here in england:lol
fill the heal n toe section with expanding foam (in a can for blocking holes etc)nice lightweight n shock absorbing:)n a bit of rubber matting for the sole

:thumbsup To English advice!
But I would make sure you made the toe and heel structurally sound before filling with the foam. I made a prop before using this method and did not make the pep strong before filling with foam.... and thus the pep swelled and lost its straight clean form. SO MAKE SURE its strong enough to handle the stress of the foam swelling!

On another note, I have done some more sanding and body filler to my shins and they are starting to get close (after several coats). Still needs some more detailing but I figured I would post some pictures anyways!

If all goes well I may get to post some pics of the hand pep coming together!

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (SHINS almost ready for primer)

I have considered removing the hinge from the top of the shins. It would be really hard to get the shin to line up to the thigh perfectly and would restrict movement.

Is this the right way to go??

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (SHINS almost ready for primer)

I have seen on some suits where the hinge was not used and the thigh and shins are totally out of alignment when being worn, I plan on keeping the hinge on my shins, as it keeps the leg in place when moving and looks accurate, as long as your able to get around in the suit ok and not playing football in it. just make sure you reinforce the hinges well and they should be fine

I totaly see what your saying.

One idea I had was to move the round pivit of the hinge from the shin to the thigh and then remove the rest of the hinge. Then use some elastic bands to keep the alignment between the shin and thigh.... Still not sure thou :confused

Not finished with the right hand yet but its getting close and I think the scale works too!

that is shaping out to be an exellant costume ! already looks fantastic

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (Right Palm)

I see you're using body filler to coat everything. Are you fiberglassing the inside at all?

Just wondering. I went the bondo route last year (War Machine) for a LOT of parts. But then, at one point, I decided to do a couple of parts in fiberglass matte.

For this year (building a Mk VI), I was planning on going all fiberglass, except for the helmet. But I guess I'm really liking the smoothness of the sanding job I'm seeing on your photos... and I'm not sure if I can get the same thing out of fiberglass ? I didn't do many parts in fiberglass last year... and those parts were the most-rushed and received the least amount of sanding and detailing.

Thanks!

Dave,

Now someone may correct me, but from my understanding fiberglassing is just a hardening process. Bondo is used after it is hardend for smoothing out surfaces and adding details.

On my build I did not use fiberglass for hardening the parts. I used a prdouct from smooth-on, smooth cast 300 which is a liquid plastic. After each piece was hardend I continued with body filler to smooth out the piece and add detail.

If I'm off track or confusing at all let me know and maybe I can clear it up.

Thanks!

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (Right Palm)

Been doing A LOT of body filler and sanding lately and decided to piddle around...
Trying to figure out how to connect all three pieces of the forearm (elbow, forearm, and the extension)

Also trying to decide weather I should then join the forearm to the biceps with a hinge (more likely a chicago screw with washers) ???

Any suggestions or comments are welcome!

Here's is what it looks like currently, just a bunch of pieces

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (HELP w/ Hinging the arms)

very nice work and thanks for the advice on the shoes guys!

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (HELP w/ Hinging the arms)

Well, I have attatched the elbows to the forearm with body filler and will hopefully do the same to the extensions tonight. Trying to decide if I want to connect the forearm to the bicep? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (HELP w/ Hinging the arms

The forearm, elbow, and forearm extension are now all one piece! :love
So now I have a forearm and a bicep that will have to be hinged together.
I plan on using chicago screws and washers along with some metal braces to ensure the hinge holds up! :)

But first I will finish the forearm and get it smooth with some detail lines!
Hopefully I can have that done in a day or so. So expect some new pics!

Re: OKIE Iron Man MK VI (HELP w/ Hinging the arms)

Still just sanding and body filler
No real update but thought this page needed photos!
