Limited Run Oblivion Movie Rifle - Second Run Capped!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Where are you at with this ?

Love this film and this gun.
I am after the pistol that is in the works, it would look lonely without the rifle.

I am trying to save up and hoping I will make it in time.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Wow! The updated pics look amazing!

Are you still planning on resin casting the folding stock? I'd hate to have to cut up
my original, as it was both expensive and a PITA to find. :)

Great work!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Also, will the kit include flashlight, or will we need to source that ourselves?

Thanks!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

TDKOGC - Trying to get some done for Dragon Con is a few weeks.

Rook3 - Originally wanted to have a faked version of the light since sorcing the actual LEDs is expensive, but the kit will include a housing for the light, but not sure if I will have all the electronics ready by DC.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Okay, no problemo!

Kind of a related question, Does anyone know how the sling is oriented/constructed? It looks like at least one of the
on-rifle quick detach points are used, but there's an odd set of buckles that appear to attach at 3 points,
yet leave only a single strap across the chest.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Amazing work. I wonder if I'd be able to get one of these buy OZ customs ok?

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Somebody asked a similar question about another weapon replica. What they did was go to their local police department
and get them to fill out a waiver for import, essentially stating that it was a "replica display movie prop non functional"
or some such terminology. They had to provide pictures of the item and references to the film it was from and how it
couldn't be converted to do anything.

They sent the completed police document to the seller who included it along with the item and it arrived okay.

I shipped an Indy Webley to Australia in the past. The buyer had a contact at a comic/hobby shop who had
all the necessary import regulations nailed down because they had previously imported Master replicas blasters
and the like.

That may be another route to consider.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

SMALL UPDATE - Got almost everything together, working on the scope as we speak!
Made the rough of the detail infront of the clip area. This bugger is invisible unless you have just the right shot, and man did it take an act of god to get that reference.

Check it out, almost there!

Sorry about the upside down pics.:)

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Sling looks like the Magpul MS3 (not sure if the MS3 comes in a white factory version). Has identical buckles of their quick detach sling system with a single one-point attachment.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

What upside down pics? :)

Great progress shots as always, thanks for sharing!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Any way I can still get in on this? Amazing work!

Thought that this was an interesting shot of the rifle rack...and look at that little piece at the magwell!

Hey Husker75 and DVDVampire, sure you can still jump in. PM me for the details.

Whoisthismike - do you mean this little piece?

Clip Detail by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
I actually noticed this piece from the beginning, but never could see what it actually was until about a month ago. One of the other people on this run sent me a great shot of the handle, I don't know how he got it, but it was a very clean looking picture that showed what was hiding under Tom Cruises hands every time he held the rifle. Check the poster, his hand was always a little further away from the edge of the clip then made sense, so I assumed there was something there in front of the clip, but it took forever to figure out what it was. Wish I had this shot at the beginning, but hey sometimes these things take time to surface.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

I'm just wondering how that piece is supposed to be attached? Screw from inside the mag well?
Doesn't look like there's any other mount points at that location on the rifle.

Darn prop designers. :)

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

There appears to be a slight tapered recess with a vertical screw or pin which fixes this piece to the lower receiver. Not sure if fixing can be replicated, but at least detailing can be seen

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Yeah that little bumper that looks notched around the mag well, looks like some type of hand grip / greeblie to help hide the the rifle platform. Yeah very hard to spot. What is interesting is that on Jim Martin's concept of Jack's rifle he has that little piece there but the mag well itself is entirely different... although there are many similarities between it and the production rifle looks like that piece made it!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Rook, check out the film at 1:18:50, when Jack is facing off with his counterpart, there is a clear shot of Jack taking off his rifle and that hand piece can be clearly seen attached with a vertical set screw.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

The problem with that underside bolt is... there's nothing for it to lock into on the ACR.
Just above that point is a through hole running horizontally and that's what the foregrip
locks into. The locking point is a solid piece, so unless they drilled and tapped it for a
locking bolt, that vertical bolt won't do a thing. :)

Thanks for the pic showing it off!
