Limited Run Oblivion Movie Rifle - Second Run Capped!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

It is hard to see from some of the angles, but it appears that the underside bolt is just slightly forward of the through hole for the barrel trunnion pin (the foregrip mount). I suspect they tapped into the small wedge element just in front of this through hole. For the airsoft you would need to be careful not to tap to far in or it could hit the barrel lock plunger, but not a problem for replica.
Maybe someone on the forum who has seen the rifle up close could comment on how it "could" be attached? Maybe they just used velcro :)

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Squidy,

10 round PMAG is inbound your location. Should ship today from IN, you'll see it early next week hopefully.

Keep up the good work and can't wait to see the finished rifle!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Fantastic!!! Being in UK I could not order one of these PMAG's

Jim

It's the least I could do considering you hooked him up with that great airsoft gun!

Should make his life easier just molding it, instead of having to modify the longer mag, not to mention it'll be 100% screen accurate.

Looking forward to seeing the entire rifle put together with the stickers on it!

I just got the movie on Blu Ray and Jack uses that rifle a lot, much more than Wikus did the Arc Rifle.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Did you send him an airsoft or real steel magazine?

I have some real steel 30 round mags, and the locking points and dimensionality are different
between them, so you can't feed a rifle mag into your airsoft. I know, I tried. :)

It's a real deal Magpul PMAG 10 Gen M3.

After he molds it, I'm sure he can modify it to work with his rifle.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

I just Love it when the thread takes on a life of its own!
The mounting of that piece in front of the magwell is a single screw that is exactly where Nostromo is indicating. As for the mag itself it locks in with a indentation on the top that seems to be on all the mags I've seen in pictures. I really don't think it will be an issue.
The bigger problem is mounting the shell. I have all the top mounts worked out to match the Allen screws you see in pictures. Its all the bottom stuff which has me stumped. It almost seems like the top and bottom are screwed together from inside and then screwed to the top only.
Also for the people who wanted folding stock options I can't make it happen because the shell gets in the way during folding. You will also have to partially disassemble the stock to get it to fit into the shell butt.
All in all I think the people who want the air soft shell option should send me their money now. I know that'll be done very soon. I'm just working out the rest of the kit parts to create the gun inside the shell. This is gonna be cool!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Regarding the folding stock, I personally didn't want to retain the folding
action of the stock since its not used in the film. I'd be happy putting a resin casting
on my airsoft rifle. That way I wouldn't have to worry about ruining a stock that cost me
$90. :)

In case anyone needs the rear sling mount, Airsoft GI has them back in stock.

WS, were you thinking you'd have the whole kit available before DC, or only the airsoft
conversion parts?

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Thanks for keeping lookout, but Mal has the sling mount already :)

The items I struggled with was the 10 round mag & the flash suppressor. The suppressor I got was not the exact one, but with a bit of work will be screen accurate. RarestRX has fixed the mag issue

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

That's the one I was referring to.

airsoft_MagPul_ACR_multi_stk_sling_single_pt_mnt_E.jpg

What's interesting is Tom/Jack wields the rifle left handed. The ACR/Masada does NOT have a mount point
for the sling on the Right side, only the left side. They actually mounted the sling mount to the folding stock
itself. :)

Only just found this thread and I'm still reading, but has anyone done a decal sheet for this yet?
If not I probably could.

Edit: I just saw that someone is, great! If these were 'rub down' decals, that would be perfect!

Originally I wanted the whole kit done, but at this point I should have the shell at least ready. The internal components that everything attaches to, I'm looking at molding from the rifle. I'm just worried because this is a lot more molded parts then I planned on and I'm thinking I may have to offer this kit in 2 versions, one for airsofts, the other as a model to build. Your thoughts?

Is this the mount everybody is talking about?
I think the link is broken, I can't see the image.

This is exactly the point of why I can't make the stock fold.

That's a good point! Where are those decals?:) I'm getting ready to make parts, I need some decals for my rifle too!

RarestRX - I figure the colors are gonna be, top off white to very light grey, bottom medium grey, possible darker depending on my mix.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

UPDATE! - Rounding the bend on the final stretch here!

This is the Stock stripped down to it's base components. I have to mold this for the kit, but those who have airsoft rifles, you'll have to strip it down to here to get the shell to fit on.

Stock 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The lower part test fit, I realized they followed the guns natural lines, but then I realized I needed to increase the height by 1/4"

Stock 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The whole unit test fitted, see the 1/4" gap at the back? I already filled that in, but I also had to adjust the size of the Butt on the end.

Stock 3 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Added the extra layer to the front bottom, this is where that piece in front of the magwell gets attached to.

Front Bottom 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The piece sanded and glued in place.

Front Bottom 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Primed and puttied, I also sanded in the curve that goes around some mounting screws in the front.

Front Bottom 3 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

I finally figured out how I want to mount the shell (at least the top part) to the airsoft. I may have to create this piece for the kit as well. This little gun gets screwed into the top shell at the allen screw points you see on the outside top of the rifle.

Mount 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

I finally got some time to work on the scope. The 3/4" MDF piece is for shaping and scale. The front and back pieces I cut on the CNC, but I noticed their scale is a little small, I might remake them. The Black sentra piece was my first attempt to bend the shape in one piece. I realized I couldn't cut the detail channels in it that way, so I abandoned this approach.

Scope 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The pieces all laid out and cut

Scope 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The bottom and sides assembled

Scope 3 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

The top added with some 1/4 round tubes for the connection to the sides

Scope 4 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Scope 5 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr

Primed and sanded, almost ready to mold!

Stay tuned for more thrills!

I would like both, that way I can use my airsoft rifle for shooting things, and still have a
replica of the movie gun. But for now, shell and the stock replacement if possible. Again,
I'd prefer to not destroy my expensive Magpul stock. As you're well aware, those things
aren't cheap. :)

I think the link is broken, I can't see the image.

I placed an inline image in my post above. It's not exactly the original image linked
to, but the end result is the same.

Also, regarding the muzzle brake, I ordered a "mostly" correct version. Near as I can tell,
the airsoft version has a serrated/knurled ring running around the base of the brake.
The one used in the film has the same back end as the M-16 style birdcage that shipped
with my rifle.

Now, in theory, it wouldn't be much work to pull a quick mold and mate the 3 prong flash hider
to the correct threaded base. In theory. :)

The above images look AMAZING! That scope is a work of art in itself. The stock looks great as well, Well done!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Not sure if I missed it, but is there a price difference between the complete rifle kit and the airsoft shell version?

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Mal, Outstanding work sir!!!

Just an update on the light unit. Although Oveready stated it was a custom moddoolar unit, I have managed to screen match that they used one of their standard bezels. Have ordered this and on its way to Mal. The base body does appear to be a custom (it narrows after the bezel), but with the bezel and sourced 3-up Carclo optics it should help get to something which is very accurate to screen used (though non-functioning).

This is just outstanding! Great work Mal, kit form for me! I don't have the rifle

Rook, I had originally sent a similiar one with the Masada as basis for molding (with view to moding it as you describe) -interested to know how you get on

For accuracy on the build there is an AAC BLACKOUT NSM flash hider on its way to wondersquid.
