Limited Run Oblivion Movie Rifle - Second Run Capped!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Just wanted to point something out! I have been watching the film over the last few days, just before he goes into the sink hole! It really looks like he presses this button thing on the front of the mag that you guys where talking about, it looks and sounds like he's activating the hoist on the bike! Anyone else want to look at this? It's about 17 mins in! I might be looking at this too deep! No way all his kit couldn't be connected! :-/

There appears to be a switch on the underside of rifle and I think it might be for the front light. I noticed the bit at the sink hole and wondered if this is Cruise switching the torch on

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Received my sling mount and muzzle brake today.

It confirmed exactly what I was fearing... there's no way
Jack had a useable prop slung on his back.

There's a couple scenes where it looks like there's a block
or other attachment point connecting the rifle to his back when
he's just walking around. The sling just doesn't support the rifle
high on the back like that. Rubber stunt guns will be lighter,
but not that light. :)

Does anyone know where the activation button is for the tactical light?

At the library scene he clicks it on.

Can't wait for the kit!

Looked again and yes your right, it does look like he activates another button on underside of rifle for hoist. So looks like there is the switch which operates the light and then a second push button (which can be seen just below finger on the screen cap above) to operate the hoist. It doesnt look like the button is being pushed during decent and unclear on accent - but given that there is clear closeup shot I think it is suggesting it is operating hoist.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

I was watching again, as he comes to the sink hole before he moves the bike! He takes his hand off the rifle to turn on the light! Is that what the button is on the right hand side of the scope!? :)

Your absolutely right - had not noticed this. Damn that movie magic :) Maybe a big hidden magnet in jacket could do the trick

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

For accuracy on the build there is an AAC BLACKOUT NSM flash hider on its way to wondersquid.

That's the one I received. The knurling I mentioned IS solid cast in the piece. The pics online
show it as having rounded interior ends (on the spaces) but they are squared off like the film version.

On the resin kit, I can see making a waste mold and mating pieces together to make a correct version,
But I'm wondering if the shrinkage would make a resin version fit too tightly on the airsoft. If you're resin
casting the barrel, the shrinkage rates should be about the same. In theory. :)

heh, seems like some of the RPF posts aren't showing up for me at times. Thanks for the
pic Nostromo, that's exactly what I was asking about!

For safety sake I'm kinda thinking that a urethane cast muzzle at the end of the barrel may be too brittle and dangerous if firing through. Has anyone gone this before? I know what I'm casting with is very dense and hard, but I can't help but wonder if any of you are firing repeatedly through the casting if the friction or heat generated will warp or distort the piece and eventually it will shatter while firing. I'm by no means the expert, but whenever we do weapons for movies, we keep the barrel stuff clear or metal.

Rook, just to clarify, Mal has an airsoft one with knurling like you describe (which would need modified as you discribe) and also has one of these on the way
AAC BLACKOUT FH 5.56MM NSM 1/2X28

Mal, I dont have experience of this, but would not expect the airsoft pellets to create a lot of friction. A bigger problem may be getting the cast suppressor threading onto an original airsoft barrel if shrinkage is an issue (again dont have experience)

Just so folks using the airsoft as a base are aware, there is no airsoft 10 round mag available. There should be a screen accurate cast, but for actual airsoft use, a 20 round mag is smallest available.

If you're talking airsoft, the BBs shouldn't touch the muzzle brake at all unless something is really out of whack regarding alignmment. :)
Then you shouldn't have any worries of thermal breakdown.

Easiest thing to check would be to try dropping a BB through the center of your casting. If it clears freely, you
shouldn't have any issues.

I believe the real steel muzzle brake uses standard sizing, while the airsoft "I believe" is metric.
That is the correct brake for the film rifle though!

Ok, I guess at this point there won't be two different kits, since some of you who have the airsoft seem like you would rather have the kit to not damage your gun, I understand this given the amount of money being put forth.

UPDATE! - Molding time!! (about time huh?)
The first side poured on molds!

I'm having some issues with the main casing that holds the parts together, so keep your fingers crossed I can solve this in time. As to this jack sling issue, maybe I should build some blocks to glue to your jacket? :lol

Will you include screen accurate glue with the blocks? If not, that's a dealbreaker for me. :D :D :D

I don't know if Scientology will release the formula they use to "stick it" to their stars. :)

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Glad the mag got there and it made your life easier.

Does it fit/lock into the mag well?

This is correct, the 10 round mag I molded, I will have to cut about 3/4" off of the top section to get the clip release hole to line up with the actual clip release on the airsoft. It fits the magwell fine, but it's a matter of the airsoft mag well stops short of reaching the actual barrel, it's feeding BB's differently. It's not that big a deal, but if you want the "most accurate" piece, then Get your hands on an actual Bushmaster. (if you do, please let me know if the scale is different, so I can shoot myself for having to remake the shell a third time:facepalm)
