Limited Run Oblivion Movie Rifle - Second Run Capped!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

When I was watching Oblivion, I kept thinking "Cool rifle..." Good choice to make. Its elegant.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Better and better. This project is looking amazing. Can't wait

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Thank you all for your patience and encouragement, it really helps me to take a breath and slow down. I'm so worried this is taking too long, but then you remind me that it's worth the wait to get it right.

Worth the wait !!! The progress is awesome - the updates to the thread are confirmation the project is moving forward. Take a breath. This is a big job. Everything is working out so beautifully. Hang in there.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

How are things going? any updates? This Project is so AWESOME !!!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

UPDATE! - Sorry folks, had to take some side work to keep things up and up. But not idle by any means.
Getting the handle molded proved to be a bigger chore than I thought. it's a 4 piece mold!

The 3 parts before I realized I needed to cut the top off and pour a 4th side!

Handle Mold 2 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
All the various inner working parts of the handle. In an attempt to make things actually move on the handle I molded all these parts.

The amazing thing is that most of these pieces actually came out pretty good in the molds

That vacuum chamber was so worth the buy, all the molds look perfect, can't wait to start pouring pieces!

The folding stock finally broken down, it was not easy to get apart. But close to molding phase.

I had to recut all the details for the scope. (this is only part of them)

Scope Details NEW 1 by malsfantasyfactory, on Flickr
The new scope will have some lighting, as I noticed in one pic a red glow in the rear lens area, so I left those 3 holes for LEDs and I will cut red acrylic lenses to fit over the lights. Hopefully I can get to the main body shortly, but there has become a horrible sizing issue. (well horrible to me at least) Everyone know that Tom Cruise is like 5' 3"? Well I finally got the right sizing for the rifle, and it's a tiny thing now! The full length is only 31" and the shell length is about 29" I will post some mock up pics I took tomorrow, but I'm frankly depressed, this looks like a toy gun to me now! :cry your thoughts?

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Very cool, would you possibly do after this project the small gun as well? :)

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Hey wondersquid,

This is amazing work and I would love to have one, but my life wouldn't be worth living as my wife has given me a clear prop costing limit.

Fantastic work so far and worth every penny, but it is a bit rich for me unfortunately.

I am gutted as I lived the film and this would have looked great on my wall.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

I think it looks fine. Its not too small, its has to fit the airsoft which is also 1/1 size of the real steel piece so its ok.
looking good so far.

Re: Oblivion Movie Rifle - Taking Deposits!

Hi wondersquid!:)

I've been watching both this thread and the "Jack's Pistol" thread closely, as I am a huge Oblivion fan. I also realize that this "fan club" is not very big, but that's fine with me!

Anyway, I think that the design teams for the props, vehicles, sets and costumes of the film did an unbelievable job. I would love to have Jack's leather uniform, rifle and pistol (Topped off, of course, by the Yankees cap!) I think it would be an awesome get-up for any convention or event.

My point is, I haven't pulled the trigger on either the rifle or pistol, as I wouldn't have any use for them unless UD Replicas (or someone else) comes out with a suit. So, I'm waiting that out. Do you think you might offer these rifles for awhile, in case a suit emerges in the future?

Also, I'm a bit confused now that the airsoft rifle is part of your build. Is your kit going to be built to actually house the airsoft rifle? If so, do you know if the airsoft rifles are readily available?

Thanks for your help and I am highly impressed with your work and talent!

Michael,

I would suggest you not wait on obtaining the rifle and pistol kits. The reason is that usually a "run" of a kit is limited. Once the project is complete and kits delivered - artists move on to other projects. The rifle and pistol may not be available later when you decided to obtain one. Often the only way to get an out of production kit is in the junkyard or on ebay if someone who already has a kit parts with it. You are likely to pay a much higher price. You may not be able to get it at all. There are many people on the RPF that can custom make your costume. Patches become available. These kits are a lot more rare. There are many prop kits I "missed" because i did not know about the run - or they happened before i got the to the RPF.

Just a suggestion. If you decide later you don't want the kit - you can get a good price in the Junkyard or as a last resort Ebay. You really don't have anything to loose unless - there is no interest in the prop - or - if there are so many for available sale they are not worth what you paid. It is unlikely this rifle will be one of those. :D

Just something to consider..

The kit is a resin cast - made using a 1:1 scale airsoft for scale based on the REAL firearm. The reproduction is as close to the real prop as possible. The artist has taken particular and meticulous detail in an effort to reproduce the prop in the closest scale and detail possible. This is an AWESOME reproduction. Sorry to see you miss it.
