Nike MAG replicas (V2 and V3 only)

Awesome! Hope I'm not veering too far off topic from MAG thread...Sounds like you'll be doing a run of these? If so put me down for the interest list. Been wanting one of these babies for years. It'd be rad to take along to the "We're Going Back" event at the town square on Oct 21.

Correct. Whilst I want to be able to vacuum form the parts, the real screen used prop was fiberglass, so at least one (mine) will be made from that.

So has anyone else attempted a scratch build from the official patterns yet?

I have been playing with these over the past few days and must say, very cool. It all goes together and actually fits. Once made up, the shape is sleeker than the V2 and about 1/2" taller at the same footprint size. The only part I changed out is the "footprint" where I have used the pink cardboard part from my (in progress) modded US8 to make a foot frame for this test pair. The actual footprint on the pattern is thinner at the same length and I guess this is why some people find NIKE shoes a bit hard to fit if they have wide feet. What I find interesting is that I can't get my foot inside the US8 V2 upper, yet this RD copy upper slips on and fits perfect. Both uppers are the same width and length, just this RD copy is slightly taller.

Assembly of these have also answered some questions that have been raised over the last few years since the V1 was released. One being , how is the cuff attached without the stitch line being visible from the outside of the shoe? It is actually a lot simpler than I first thought and I therefore have to wonder why the Chinese could not do this with the V2.

And something I found very interesting is that the inside half of the collar is the same size as the outer half. The reason it sit back slightly is because the arch makes it sit back once joined to the footprint.

Alignment is still a challenge but the trick is to start center of the heel, then centre of the toe and work around the shoe. There are several alignment points on the pattern. If you trust the pattern lines, you almost don't need a last. I have just used some 10mm EVA which glued and cut out to the same shape as the footprint and providing the trim lines are in the correct position, it works.

The toe is indeed a "slim toe" but there is enough ,material there to make a traditional boot as well. This aids in making the sock toe because there excess to slump if the shoe is assembled without support.

Any pictures of this pattern made up?

I tried a few times but gave up and concentrated on finishing my V2s properly.

Might have to give it another shot now mine are done, as I still have a fair amount of EVA.

I have not finished the liner part yet, but here is the shell.

These are scaled to the V2 US8 size. The the centre of the sole footprint end to end should be 265mm.

yeh i got myself a pair of those with a black upper. they're pretty comfy, but not good for Melbourne's winter (too thin, so cold)

So more suited for our warmer QLD weather then?

Also saw a pair of (quite high) Hi-Tops from Adidas that (shape wise) looked like a pair of NIKE Hyper-Dunks (just taller) that were made from a mesh like material. Again a soft, almost sock toe.

yep, the V2's were a bit too warm when i went up to QLD for Xmas a few years ago. They're great this time of year though.
Are the HC's thinner uppers? Maybe one less inside layer or something? Got any photos of that adidas?

Yes they are :)

If anything, I think they have even more foam than the V2s and why they look "poofy".

Got any photos of that adidas?

No I didn't. They were $280 and looked sweet.

Anyway, I made up a MAG shell using the patterns.

Way nicer shape and will be slightly taller at the same size too :)

EDIT: This is actually a V2 US8 sized pattern against the US9.5 wear pair.

it is time that people share their knowledge. We love this film and this shoe. Why nobody wants to share? we are here to exchange knowledge on a common topic.
I think I speak for everyone here. We Want a complete tutorial (links, equipment to be used). to finally realize our dream. After several requests, some members never answers . Knowing that there are people here who could help us. So please ... Just do it.
thank you for sharing our community

I intend to do a full tutorial on the upper showing how these patterns correct all the faults with the replica MAGS so far including the v1, v2, HC and even the MP.
As for the soles, sure I will show you exactly what materials and tools you need. I just see some getting upset with the price of a vacuum chamber.
Question for you is - what is your contribution?
