NIKE MAG Knockoffs

WOW! So how do you restitch that up?

I think it will look better when your done.

Love the new strap too BTW.

Using very fine thread by hand. It's going to be a very delicate job.

Those straps are rough cut. The sheaths made from layered foam strip will go in first and final straps slot in. I'm so glad that the stunt pair give me room to mess up just a little. Though the ankle straps are too rigid to match the stunt pair.

I may also make the laces grey to match the hoverboard pov scenes.

Yeah I look forward to seeing how you do that.

The main laces look good too. I was referring to the ankle straps. You've done a great job on those.

I think you will find that 'grey' is just dirt from shooting. Just wear them heaps and I am sure in time yours will look the same.

Cheers. And I guessed it was dirt. I was just going to help things along with some weathering.

I think clean would look better than weathered given in the film he only wears them for a few hours. They were probably supposed to be clean for that time.

My stunt grade shoes with the adjustable laces dry fitted. There's a length of hidden elastic under the tongue that still allows them to be worn. The laces slide in and out of the ribs which are made from vinyl tubing to allow a smooth slide.

Very rough right now but it should look good once finished. Hey, are these the first Mag replicas with adjustable laces?

I believe they are. Most have either left the elastic as is or like s02 just replaced them giving wider gap in the upper. I'm leaving mine as is but will add the ribs following the direction of the laces giving the false effect of what you are talking about of the lace going through some tubing. Although if I'm feeling brave I might have a go at what you're doing.

Probably since the pair made for the film with the holes cut into the soles.

Back then, stage hand pulled chords that passed through the soles. If you look at Marty's left foot, you can see the slot cut in the stage for this part.

I think your shoe looks good. I like the tube idea to assist with them sliding. Very well thought out.

Yeah, the laces are a tad too wide here. I think they might look a lot better once I hide the tubing and stitch/glue it all together.

Though I do kind of like those thicker laces. For an anti grav shoe they look more secure.

Can someone with good screencaps actually tell whether the onscreen mags have elastic laces or some other material? This is literally the narrowest elastic I could find in Tokyo. If I can use another kind of lace then I can meke em narrower. Im also now wondering whether to go the whole hog, pull the upper off and install a motor in the shoe to have a non-wearable, ligghtup powerlace version. Maybe even fix it to an imitation asphalt base and just have the motor in the base.

And no homework was done that summer......

Looking at these images again, I don't think you too far off if they are too wide. Big loops on the screen used pair though.

Some of the shoes had gaps as wide as the laces. But some scenes show a smaller gap between the laces.

I'm not too fussed over that laces as these are going to the pair I wear out to costume parties etc hence why i'm calling them my stunt pair.

Tonight I did a small upgrade to my MP MAGs - New Ankle Buckles :love

Because theses extend around the ankle more than the standard foam buckle, I will have shorten the next pair of straps I make by about 2".

I have opened a thread in the Junk Yard for my spare Ankle Buckles.

The soles of the MP shoe come off so cleanly with even just a hairdryer on full.

I've just taken the midsoles from a pair of MP's to start my scratchbuilt Hero Mags. These soles will have the texture AND....clear soles.

I scrapped the adjustable laces pair. Not looking good enough.

I think I love you..uh...dude. How bout them Dolphins!?

I actually have a question for those who have applied clear soles to the shoes. The ones I'm using are crystal clear so i'm a little concerned about any glue showing through, yellowing over time etc.

What's the best adhesive to use in this case?

Also...

How blue are the actual soles? I've seen dozens of images but still can't tell how blue they really are.

Another thing i'm considering is the texture of the midsole. Since I don't want to mess around with casting my own, i'm content with modding the MP sole. My initial thought was a textured spray paint but that is too...flaky. My next thought was to dab spots of super glue on the soles which I would then cover with sealant and then put a layer of hard-wearing automotive paint over that. Then splatters.

:confused Are my images visible? I have had to re-post them at least three times now.

Shoe Goo seems to work a treat. These products really only go yellow if left exposed to UV over time.

It is called 'ICE' in that it should have a blue tint, but not be blue.

I have not bought any for this project yet, but last time I used the grey polyester primer for cars, I discovered it is flexible when it dries on cloth etc. Because it is a primer, other paint sticks really well to it. It is a nice shade or grey and with aqua spatter and some sealer, would look nice.

Yep. They're there. Looking great.

I think I'm going to apply a misting of clear blue to the backs of the new soles so that they have a nice bit of refraction with the colour going on and to stop the colour coming off with what minimal wear time they will have.

Btw Cavx, how did your clear soles turn out? I remember seeing a thread on research you did but I don't think i've seen any pics of the soles applied to your shoes.

Awesome dude. Have you done a field test on durability?
