New Zvezda Star Destroyer Model kit

Just an FYI; found this posted by someone on Reddit. A great comparison of the piece above the bridge in both states; what's interesting is how it seems to be mounted slightly differently depth-wise (front-to-rear) in ANH & R1.

Even though the ANH and R1 are in the same time period I'm going to say they are not the same class of ship. There's just too many differences between the two even if they were meant to be the same type of ship.

Always possible there are slight differences in each class, same as there are with Navy Destroyers of the same class. Vader's Devastator might be a newer refit of an older model with upgraded communications jamming equipment or some such stuff. Star Wars Rebels has showcased a whole fleet of Imperial class warships that are smaller than a Star Destroyer - including light and heavy cruisers with some that carry a few TIE fighters suspended from their hulls.

Personally, I'll build the first one out of the box (lighted of course). By the time I get around to buying a second one there should be some upgrades available. Then I'll worry about correcting issues to make it match an ANH/ESB version.

Approximately 12:45 of the above video is where they discuss the mashing of the 3 footer with the detailign and lighting of the 8 footer to create the rogue 1 SD. very cool stuff...

watch the entire thing... its worth it.

Especially the part where Doug Chaing talks about all the practical effects in The Phantom Menace. More practical effects and real models than in TFA. ;-)

You keep injecting the prequels where they don't belong.

In general, people don't like the prequels because they were horrible movies, not because they used or didn't use too much digital effects.

Actually, I can inject what I want -- especially when what I said wasn't a value judgement on the films, but a statement of facts. I didn't tell anyone to like or not like anything. But really, my occasional few pro-PT comments are a drop in the bucket to the PT hate that is often casually injected where IT doesn't belong (maybe you don't see it because you agree with it). The appropriate use of digital effects is absolutely one of the reasons often cited by people who don't like the PT. It's the very reason Disney's marketing pushed so hard on the subject.

Regardless, someone posted a link to a video in this thread. I can comment on it.

Of course you can post what you want. But riddle me this:

How did your post about the prequels further the discussion about the Zvezda Star Destroyer?

I commented about studio models in a model forum. People make asides, jokes, and the occasional off-topic comments all. the. time. Respectfully, it's not your job to police me and, frankly, if my comment wasn't pro-PT I doubt you'd care at all. For some reason, it's VERY important for people who don't like the PT to make sure no one else is allowed to like them either. So maybe that's the issue and not that I strayed briefly off-topic.

But I'll reserve all my comments on this thread exclusively the Z-SD. Fair nuff?

We done?

Daaaaaaum, son. Talk about a mic drop. :lol

I like the Prequel Trilogy AND I like this new Star Destroyer. I just forked over cash on the new Revell SD, and will definately fork over cash on the Zvezda kit, which looks to be middle ground in detail compared to the one Bandai will hopefully release. Just assuming this based on the incredible amount of detail crammed in their Falcon and Y-Wing kits. THAT's the one I can't wait to see!

Hopefully Bandai is aware (and I'm sure they are) of the Zvezda kit and will monitor its sales. I just hope the Zvezda kit does not scare off Bandai into thinking that two large SD's is too much for the market to bear. And yes they would "technically" be for two different markets, but they should both know that each would, and will find, a world wide audiance of buyers.

Which is why I wish that Bandai's kit, if they were to put out a larger scale SD kit, be the ANH/Rogue One 3-footer version. If we're going to have multiple kits, then it would be nice to have different versions.

Holy hand grenades! That's it. That's the star destroyer kit we've been drooling for. The only thing better (for me) is if it were the original ANH version. Otherwise, it's a thing of beauty! We'll need to scratch the garbage dump port, but it's a worthwhile omission for getting a styrene 2-footer. Need to start collecting fiber optics and making a lighting plan...
At very least it will clearly demonstrate there is a market for this subject.

I recently picked up the Anigrand kit for a fairly good deal, thinking that the Bandai version would be some time in releasing, if at all.

Does anyone know if this Zvezda kit is the same scale as the Anigrand?
