Lurked on here as a guest for a bit. Joined as I have plans to do a bit of a project.
So far any costuming attempts have ended with me giving up and going to my mother with a pattern which is fine if it's as normal (hah!) as a dress anything else I'm on my own and, frequently, in over my head.

hello everyone.
real name Tom, everyone calls me Crix.
I know a lot of you from the 501st and Rebel legion.
I have a approved count dooku, rebel pilot, Crix madine, jedi, Twi'lek jedi, IC
anyways... I am now working on a Jayne(firefly) costume
I slapped one together at the con Cyphan here in chicago, and had such a good reaction from it, I want to do it the right way now.

How do?

My primary interest is in the craftsmanship that goes into the construction of props etc which are works of art in themselves.
the ability to scratchbuild has long departed my hands so I am ever impressed to see the work that goes on.

And if something catches my eye that may be available for sale then who knows ...

Welcome Nicole! I am originally from MI, the Downriver area, but now I live in Korea. I heard there is a blossoming movie industry in Detroit. Did any prop shops open that you know of?

Hey SOTI! Thanks for the welcome! There have been a few movies that have been filmed here in MI. Mostly in Detroit. I live on the West side of MI and 30 minutes or less was filmed here last year in Grand Rapids. That one is coming to theaters pretty soon. Also Dustin Lance Black shot his movie, Whats wrong with virginia in Holland. No one is sure when that is set to come out, if at all.

As for the prop shops, none that I have noticed, but that would be pretty cool!

A friend of mine from high school worked on a movie called Jinn. JINN : Official Movie Site

And it includes a modified Camaro also producd in MI.

I've been building medieval armour for about 13 years, and I've dabbled in prop making.

I'm really interested in building an Iron Man suit and this looks like I've come to the right place for info.

Now if I can just figure out how to build armor without pounding on metal, I will be fine:eek
