Hey everyone,

I found this site through a Google search after my family and I went to the comic convention in Indianapolis earlier this month. Being a con junkie, I was inspired to make my own Star-Lord mask (which I haven't gotten very far with yet) and I'm all about finding what I need/want through the help/advice of others (that's the maker way!). So here I am, looking for advice and answers. The RPF is a great community! I've learned so much since I joined a week ago. Not to mention the willingness of the members to share info and files.
Hopefully, some of the veterans her read this thread, because I'm going to ask my first question: most members seem to be working with 1/2 inch foam, but I was wondering would it be easier for the noobs to start with 1/4 inch? At lest until we gain experience at cutting and building? I understand the need for specific thickness in some projects, but I'm just assuming it would be easier for me to learn to manipulate foam using thinner material.
Thanks everyone

February 2015 - Back to the RPF !

Hey folks! I was a member some time back but sort of drifted away, at one time I even has some pictures up - but it's been a few years and it looks like everything is gone. But, I am back now and trying to catch up!

I live in the Seattle, Washington USA region and do a lot of Tony Stark/Iron Man stuff up here in the Great NW, mostly charity stuff for kids.
I am looking forward to reading up on techniques and tricks that I can use, you are all such an awesome resource!

Cheers to you!

Hello, I was a member a few years back, but my log on no longer worked so i re_registered and I am excited to be a part of this again. I mostly recreated Firefly props, but I am looking forward to expanding my collection.

Hi, my name is Scott. I am a new user from Virginia, and very interested in Pirates of The Caribbean, MCU, and many more. Don't have anything made at this point but I have a 44" printer that I can use plus working on building a small cnc. I love posters/maps/charts/blueprints!

I have an expensive SW habit. I am a member over at TDH and currently building a Jango and ESB Fett to add to my collection. I also have an extensive flash tube collection and got my first Graflex 3 cell in 1997 when I could not afford a ICONs Luke saber, while I was paying for flight school in collage. Now I have that ICONs along with a near complete MR SW collection, but the ones you make yourself are always more fun.

Hello, I'm Duae. I've been costuming for years and years and I'm not too shabby with a sewing machine, but I haven't done too much with non-fabric and I'd like to change that, especially as I've taken an interest in Star Wars Rebels stuff recently.

ok time to introduce myself fresh to the prop building community ive always been interested in the design of things and tinkering with things the way people make costumes and cosplay these days are amazing and when i watch movies i always see really cool ways things are presented and how they help tell the story and i want to get into making things and being able to make something that tells a story something that is interesting and unique in its own sense of being to feel the reality of a object that originates in a what can be called a fiction space but for now i am as my name says a rookie dreamer i dont have the tools or resources to do much yet but thats the fun part is being limited and producing something wonderful and interesting
some ideas i have for project are
the unicorn theifs box from the dr who the eposode8 season 4
its a very intresting object that is not shown much in the episode but is unique and seems like a inreresting and challenging
walter mitty's suitcase
a very inspiring movie that is very relatable and a interesting challenge of reproduce the details of the item and its contents

Hi, I found this forum while looking for some detail shots of Star-Lord's pants for a commission I am working on for a 14 year old, I think that I will be here for awhile...

about me... I am a costume designer and cosplay fanatic, primarily superheroes. Most of my commissions are for children - for halloween or conventions - and I have a lot of fun making tiny little replicas. ;) my current projects are Star Lord, as well as Bucky Barnes - a mash-up of old-school comic & movie version Bucky. Should be a fun month.

Hello everyone!

Very excited to to come on here. Came across this site after searching ways to build my own props esp., iron man. I've been into comics, anime and collecting toys all my life and just recently got interested in cosplay. I am amazed by the great work I've seen so far! Just incredible. I hope to be half as good one day!

Hey everyone.

My name is Chris and I'm from Australia. Been lurking here for a while watching some amazing creations and learning a lot from the vast amounts of knowledge available through the community. I've always loved making things and props and costumes have lately become a large part of my interests. I've still got a lot of learning to do but I hope to put some effort into an Iron Man suit at some point and then see where my new found skills take me. I know IM Suits have been done a million times but it the character has been a passion for a while and the story behind the character inspires me in everyday life. I also see it as a good challenging build that involves many different aspects.

Well that's my little piece about me and I hope to see you around the forums somewhere.

Cheers,

Chris

hey, introduction!!!! My name is Kevin, and a buddy of mine was building star wars dios. I started building a couple, and decided to build some other things. I built a life size darth vader shelf (pic) and am in the process of building a sand crawler. I have seen a sand crawler build that someone has here, and mine fails miserably in comparison, but alas, I continue. Other than that, I am just very interested in the craft. It is fantastic some of the things that you guys do here. Thanks. IMG_6115.JPG

Hello, my name is Julia and i'm from Brazil. (Sorry if my english is bad) I just graduated on Visual Arts, and I'm most interested on sculpture and prop making. I have this page here: Octopuss Cosplay where I post my works. I am eager to learn new things and talk about prop and costume making. Here are two of my costumes that I like the most:

Hi guys and gals! I'm new!

I've been fiddling around with a Myst inspired prop and reading threads about Han Solo's DL-44.

I'm about to show of what I've been up to the last couple months, keep an eye!

Glad to be here!!

I don't think I introduced myself here. I'm Nightfalcon4, and I want to get into modifications and prop building. I want to be a person who can create usable works of art essentially. I have a lot to learn and a long way to go, but I'd like to start and keep progressing where I can.

Thank you.

Hello there ^^. greetings from Paris ..
It's time for me to introduce myself.

I'm from France,father of two kids, and active member from the 501st french garrison. By seeking a accurate helmet of starlord (my new costume project) then I discovered the work of one of your members then this forum. (sometimes it's good to make little infidelity to star wars universe lol).

I like to create my own props in the spirit where they were created for the movie. for example I recreated a stormtrooper E-11 by using a real sterling with sherman scope , Tie pilot helmet with APH helmet and sandtrooper faceplate, and various blasters (DL44, 5th element, etcc.) or others items with recycled objects in the spirit of the original trilogy.
sometimes I also do really small runs of props (helmet, blaster), but today with my job, that became impossible (or really difficult).

I like to create costumes and props as precise and accurate as that it is possible,durable and easy to wear, with many small details.

really glad to be there .
thank you

Hello!

I'm Ricardo Xavier, photographer/Designer and I've been creating stuff since forever but recently I came up with the crazy idea of making props or replicas from stuff I like. I'm constantly trying new things and I think that’s something that defines my work as an artist.

Currently I'm working on my first project called "Terrible Fate" in which I'm making an aged replica of the Majora's Mask from the Legend of Zelda. I've got a lot to learn but so far everything is looking pretty good I think. Hope you like my work, any suggestions or ideas are gladly received.

My name is Karen, but I go by the moniker, VintageGams. Been costuming for Renfaire, reenactors, cosplay, a few movies, opera and theatre companies for well over 25 years now. Just discovered Steampunk about 2 years ago and love it! I joined your group because I'm beginning to incorporate new ideas and materials into my designs. Hello everyone!

It's awesome to be apart of this incredibly talented community! I stumbled on this site a few times in the past while trouble shooting a few of my own projects and was just blown away by the creativity that this forum has! What I really enjoyed most about reading throughout this site is how supportive everyone is, which is so helpful when you're making something for the first time... or anytime! :)

I've been into prop building for a good portion of my life and i'm slowly learning special effects makeup from my husband, so that'll be something i'd be excited to share on here as well! :D

I'm currently working on a huge project for my little (soon to be) 7yr old son; he's been DYING for a Star Wars themed birthday and being such a huge Star Wars fan I just couldn't say "no."

His wishlist includes:

* Darth Vader costume ( for Dad)
* Ahsoka Tano costume ( for Me)
* Captain Rex costume ( for my little Padawan)

and being such a huge fan, I came up with my own list, too :) :

* Death Star pinata
* Light Saber swords
* Land Speeder photo prop
* TIE/LN starfighter photo props

...

I could literally go on and on..
I know it's going to be quite a lot to do, but hey... if you don't dream big, then why dream at all?

Good Evening (or morning) all.

Wow, I stumbled upon this forum this morning, when looking for 'star wars room' on google. I am currently a graphic designer, though trained in both that and architecture. I am a rather creative person and do some cartooning for fun. I am also an avid bbq-er, I built my own smoker which is big enough for me to stand in;) I love star wars and alot of other sci fi films. My purpose here is to gather ideas on building out/ decorating the currently unfinished attic of my house once the addition is built. My wife is also trained in architecture and graphic design, so together we might be unstoppable;)

I think the goal at the moment is to make my future upstairs bathroom star wars themed. you might not hear much out of me at first, there is A LOT to soak in here.

Ryan
