Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone, my name is Rob and I'm from Staffordshire, England. I have been a sci-fi fan all of my life, and always loved to see people dressed up at conventions etc. but never had the confidence in my prop making abilities to do anything myself. I now want to start small and get into this great hobby so from a long time lurker I have now registered here. As I am starting off small I want to put together a Fringe Division agent costume complete with props such as ID cards etc. so this will be my first project! Nice to finally be a member and if you think you could help me out please do send me a message. Thanks!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey guys! Long time lurker here, and I can honestly say that I'm amazed at the level of talent on this site. Most of the props that I've created include several lightsabers, an arc reactor, and a few paper-props. I also do a large amount of work on the computer with visual effects and graphic design. Figured it would be a good idea to start sharing and learning from the pros!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello. I found this site after looking for some ideas and plans for some cosplay and costuming. It's nice to see all of it on its own forum.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi, I'm Iain, living in the Shetland Isles (for those of you in the UK, we are that little stuck on box right at the top of the nightly weather map - in the box because we are further away than the map extends - closer to Norway, than to Scotland, but still part of the UK). Moved here through work, from mainland Scotland, but been off work through serious injury for over 2 years now.

So I've needed a pastime to keep me sane, as I recover from spinal surgery. It started with a return to art, after a meeting with the marvellous Colin MacNeil at the Hi-Ex comic convention, where I'd brought my sons. I'm a lifelong Dredd & 2000AD fan - I love all comics & graphic novels, but Dredd and Batman are my twin favourites. From art, it's turned to basic, playful attempts at making my own pieces of Dredd's costume (classic, not 2012, to begin with). This has led me back to modelling, which I did a lot, half a lifetime ago, including moulding and casting in plastic & resin.

A lucky sighting of big John Burdis, on FaceBook, made me recognise him from the Hi-Ex convention, where I'd been blown away by his classic Judge costume. I messaged him, about where he'd sourced kit, and he pointed me here. Thanks, Judge Burdis (though my wife curses you - is that a crime??!)

Now I'm picking up tips daily, from J Scorn, from Dollstix, from so many here, all leading to my dream...home-made (as much as possible!) builds of the classic comic Dredd & the 2012 version, which I loved.

After the Dredds? Well, there's Iron Man, Batman, all the other Judge nationalities of Dredd's world - yes, I intend making them all - the Judda, Strontium Dog, Robocop, Skyrim, Star Wars, Halo... They'll be nailing the coffin lid down, but I'll be dremmelling the interior, if I have my way! ;)

Anyway, I digress, as I often do. I'm recovering slowly, but I can still use my hands and my mind works just fine (though don't listen to my wife on that last!) aaaand I NEED a purpose and some challenges, albeit on a budget. But I'm determined to get a workshop back up and running, just slowly, and in stages. (Unless I win the Lottery!)

And, as far as this wonderful place is concerned, I'm here to stay, believe me. :)

Hi Everyone,

Just introducing myself briefly...

To make a long story short, I will be going after a MFA degree in Applied Craft & Design after practicing graphic design professionally for the past 10 years.

On the side (like so many others), I try my best to be an object maker. My interests vary from things like motorcycles to video game props to furniture to just about anything that seems to leak into my head. I like discovering things, basically.

I wish I had some sort of nice, polished project to show you all at the moment. The best I can do is link my silly portfolio/blog. At least, there are a couple images of the start of a Borderlands 2 prop gun I hope to complete. Just getting the gun drawn up and some initial modeling in Blender. mrnickparker.tumblr.com

It's good to be here.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Heya folks,

Well I came across this website because I am interested in making some cool items for my home, I built a very basic vacuum mold table and am wanting to start on a basic Han Solo In Carbonite so if anyone out there can help me out with plans or a website that sells the mold I'd be forever indebted to you.

Cheers!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone,

I am a novice maker and apparently I was extremely lucky to come across this website during a registration period. I heard of this website through Tested's interviews with Adam Savage who I heard mention this page and I figured if it is good enough for Adam, whom has many years of special effects experience, then it can be a great place to maybe pick up on some knowledge as well as bring what I know to the table. I love sharing information and am enthusiastic to help however I can and it is great to be apart of yet another community of makers and creators.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey RPF members. I have been wanting to create art such as all the talented people on here do for a very long time. I have nothing to show yet but ambition to start and see how far I can go. All these ideas in my mind... I'd love to see them take shape and form. I have many ideas to do to this but I feel like I still lack sufficient knowledge on the best materials to use and techniques to maximize the potential of those materials as well as myself, but that's also part of the fun I suppose and I can't wait to learn and make RPF proud :D

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

HI ALL!!
My name's Scott and I'm from the north east of England. I've happened upon this site many times over many years and finally decided to join woohoo. I've loved painting and modeling since I was a kid (I'm only 33 tho ;)) and haven't really touched on for a long time until now. So... I've been asked to paint up a D-L44 Han Solo ROTJ Blaster and I'm going to post my progress on here if that's cool with you all?
So far the kit has been dremelled, cleaned up and epoxied together. Not very exciting to start with I know but this is the part I class as the hardest and most boring part so please bare with me.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone!

My name is Jordan Craig, I'm an electrical/system engineer by trade but in the process of transitioning into set design/art department roles for film and tv. I also co-founded this fun group called Zombie Pub Crawls, where we hire professional makeup artists who turn our participants into zombies, and afterward we terrorize a number of pubs in our target town/city.

My current project involves a large amount of fake $100 bills, which, incidentally, is how I arrived here!

The site looks to be a wealth of knowledge; I can't wait to exchange some of mine for all of yours! :p

Hello from Las Vegas, NV!!!

I 1st signed in March 4,2013, and all I can say is... there are SO many talented people and cool things on this site its rdiculous!!! I've never even dreamed of building things like the stuff I have discovered on this site. I huge fan of the EVA foam costume builds, especially the Ironman stuff...I Never realized ALL the cool things you could build with foam.
I have been a comic collector and wannabe artist since the early 80's. I look forward to seeing many more awesome creations from the talented people on this site and hopefully any suggetstions or help with the builds I intend to create in the near future.

Thanks
Mike

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone!

I found out about this site through Adam Savage and his podcast. I'm a big fan of movie props and I'm thinking about starting a collection of my own. Surfing around and looking at all the amazing collections and builds on this site is a great inspiration. I've seen some fantastic stuff so far!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi there, I'm a pretty laid back creative who makes leather armour and props for a living. My other half found this forum and is totally blown away by the posts, said I HAD to join and get chatting :)
I am a self confessed Hellboy fangirl, and I started Cosplaying him last year for the first time, so much of my spare time is now dedicated to making this as screen accurate as I can!
Feel free to add me as a friend, I don't bite..

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi!

My name is Kevin, I'm a professional 3D modeler in film and tv for nearly 10 years.

Often when I'm searching for reference for personal projects this site pops up and I've always been really interested in prop building, casting and molding!

All the work I see here is amazing! I hope to learn from you guys as much as possible as I slowly venture into this as a hobby.

Thanks for sharing all of your amazing works to be seen!

Kevin =)

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings and salutations!
I have been lurking therpf off and on since about 2002. I always seemed to try to join during closed registration periods, so I remained content to lurk. I did my first prop (badly) when I was about 12 and was always kit-bashing toys with stuff I could find. One of my first was popping the lenses out of swim goggles, using some elastic from my mom's sweing room, and taking the cross hairs out of a Biker-Scout toy gun to make a Deadshot eyepiece.

I was from that point on, always making my Halloween costumes like a damaged android and whatnot. I turned a toy lever-action rifle into a sawed off grenade launcher that eventually made it into a film a friend shot on VHS in the mid 90's where I was the dread bounty hunter "Bubba Fett" complete with a plunger rocket launcher and wrist-mount fishing reel.

My main areas of interest are scale vehicles, non-cannon props, and costuming.
Nice to meet everyone!
