Hey everyone, my name is Monte Ward and I'm in independent artist, and I live in Ohio. I love horror movies, and this is reflected in most of my artwork.

This is a great forum and I look forward to being a part of it.

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Greetings! My interests are costuming, props and models. I've scratch-built a number of lightsabres (both replicas and custom), and several renditions of the Deep Sleep gun from "Logan's Run", ranging from an early effort involving corrugated cardboard and a paper towel roll to a considerably better one made of steel, wood, and plastic. I've also made a couple of attempts at a sonic screwdriver. I signed up on what turned out to be that last day of the Dollar Store Lightsabre contest. *SIGH* I hope there will be other such events in the future; I would've loved to have participated.

Does anyone have any suggestions for easy projects that I could cut my teeth on?

I've heard a popular response to that is 'Take a female razor and make Qui-Gon's comm unit from The Phantom Menace'

http://www.partsofsw.com/Ep_1/quicom.htm

It's a pretty straightforward and easy thing to do, and regardless of the item that serves as the prop's base, it ends up looking quite nice and science fictioney, if you like that sort of thing.

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Hey Guys,

I've been on the RPF for a few years now and never really introduced myself! I'm a Junior at Rochester Institute of Technology and I am a Marketing/Economics major. I'm almost 21 years old and I have a lot of different loves. I'm a born and raised die hard New York Yankees, Buffalo Sabres and Bills fan and I play hockey and baseball. I love collecting prop replicas and other movie related collectibles. Here are a few pictures of my main prop collectibles!

Includes: MR Stormtrooper, Boba Fett and Darth Vader LE and Kermit the Frog Photo Puppet. MR FXs Darth Maul, Vader Episode V and Luke VI lightsabers. Neca V for Vendetta Dagger (that customs wouldn't ship), Camptown Fedora 1957 "Legend" Model with crown designed by Adenturebilt Hat Company, Indy Magnoli Satchel, TMNT II Secret of the Ooze Used TGRI Canister, Halo Helmet Legendary Edition, GG Boba Fett Mini Bust with ROTS Darth Vader on its way and vintage Boba Fett and Stormtrooper Action figures.

Want to buy soon: Vintage Darth Vader action figure, Stormtrooper GG Minibust, Iron Man Mk III helmet and Count Dooku, Anakin and Darth Vader ANH FX lightsabers... and more!:wacko

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!

Hello! I am amazed by the pool of talent surrounding me. I am of course but a humble Blade Runner fan, and i am progressing on my goal of an accurate floorplan of Deckards Apartment. I am 99% done, and my drawing (By Hand Old School Style) is 1:10 scale. I am planning on producing a 1:6 scale mock up of it for a short animated film starring a certain Replicant Hunter, film Noir style black and white. When i get the plans done i will share a low rez picture of it. Also interested in a functional Spinner in 1:6 scale as well, but working on one project at a time. Have a Better One.

Hi!

Long time lurker, though I can be easily distracted by new projects, so I've never managed to find my way back for an open registration window until now. And I disappeared again for a few weeks after registering. Go fig.

Name's Jack, and I've lived near Chicago for the past few years. Came by prop building the old-fashioned way - re purposing toys and household materials when I was a kid. This graduated to a flirtation with sculpy models and replica toy purchases in the 90's, when I was an active costumer for a few years. My wife is a master costumer, and isn't too shy about prop building herself, though we've both been inactive in the hobby for a few years. That's changing.

Current projects/goals: Rocketeer outfit by 2011, Melkor (Doctor Who) statue costume by ... sometime in the future when my wife gets her Cassia outfit done, improved Forcefield belt for my Brainiac 5 outfit for Dragoncon.

Dream project: a silver Omni from Voyagers (the sculpy one I made is... rough and unfinished :lol)

Hello everyone. I am Tray. I am a member of the 501st Legion, TK4251, and a beginner prop building. I have helped create a restraining bolt from Star Wars as well as some other misc parts. Currently I am working with Jonsolo and another friend building Emperor Palpatine's throne chair from ROTJ for the 2009/2010 Mummers New Years Day parade.

Hi everyone, my name is Jamie and I must confess I have not really ever been active in any fan clubs. I began looking around in RPF about a month ago, and have a nice ST: TOS Communicator built from a John long kit. This, in turn, led me to dig up a Space: 1999 Commlock kit, and revived my childhood interest in piddling around with model kits. So far I have learned a bunch, and hope to learn tons more!!! This is a great site...

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! Nov. '09

Howdy :)

Name is Lee, and though I registered here in the June wave, I haven't really posted. Thought that the intro thread would be a decent place :)

I'm pretty much a struggling illustrator, but working in 3D (sculpting/building) has been my primary passion, which I've been finding myself shifting to... been into model and propmaking since i was a child, making lilttle paper models of the General Lee when i was 7 or so, and graduating to balsa wood models of craft from video games & film (ie. Wing Commander, Destination Earthstar, snowspeeders) as soon as my mom allowed me to work with sharp objects..

about 11 years ago i was exposed to conventions, and made a crummy prop katana from a broken boken, and started making natural wood swords and other things to bring to conventions for display & occasional sale (namely Dragon*con and a couple local anime conventions).

after a big lull where i stopped making dimensional work, a pair of personal scratchbuilt costuming projects link & link reminded me how much I enjoyed making props, though til fairly recently, people automatically assumed that my boyfriend made the props.

Since a bunch of folks asked me about making some, (and jobs went south with the economy) I began taking on some commissions..

as much as i enjoy making props & costuming, the biggest joy has been from figuring put how to make the things.

My friend Mike (blindsquirrel) pointed me to this place in January, & had bugging me to get of my butt and post an intro instead of the ol' lurkylurk. here you go Mike...

you happy??

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! Nov. '09

Whow !!!
beautiful props, congratulations !

Re: *** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! Nov. '09

Cheers!

I have always loved to create, either from kits or from scratch. Grew up with Lego, so go figure. I haven't made anything as impressive as what I have seen here, but I look forward to my next project.

My husband is Fuelish, and he encouraged me to join also. I joined on the last day before registration closed but I have just been lurking since then. I do find myself inspired after looking at all of the amazing projects on here, so hopefully soon I will have a cool creation of my own to post.
