New LED light strips, I know I am going to use these for ...

Saw this on Gizmodo, hopefully theres a project that comes along where I have an excuse to use them!

I was thinking Lightsabers but the LEDs are too far apart. And if you spiral wrap them, the might end up looking polka dots instead. Nevertheless, in a nutshell, its flexible copper tape with lights.

Much much better than the strip I had, which is about 4mm thick.

Very nice! Anyone track down prices yet? The "Buy" link on the website points to an email indicating they aren't yet available.

I'm thinking display cabinets

At about 1ish lumen over 10" it's pretty dim overall, that is about equivalent (there is no direct conversion) to what a single 5mm supper bright led pumps out...

Of course the numbers will vary but take for instance under cabinet lights, a single 20 watt halogen puck is about 330 lumens, so it would take 330 10" inch sections of this stuff (@ 1 lumen average) or about 275 feet to equal one under the cabinet puck... That is unless you use the green it's about 7 times brighter so you only need 40 feet...

I can see it being OK for accent or night light applications, though...

I'm looking for a 12" strip of LED's that are battery operated, like AA batteries. Is there anything like that out there? I'm coming up empty.
