The Blade Runner PKD Blaster Green LED

Hi, Guys,

After discovering the AndersFP 3D files for the PKD2019 Blaster, I have designed the lighting for it, both the Normal version and the Ghost version (don't ask me what's a Ghost version, as I just give them Ice Blue LEDs and different lighting effects) . The only problem are the green LEDs at the side, which in the movie was not lit. Still, I have given the option should the user wants to light them up.

I just want to ask this question before I start making them. What shade of green were they? I do no have any reference of the 1980's LED colours but I do believe the ones in the foreground could be the correct ones. What do you think?

Anyway, if you want to read more about my progress, you can read it from my Website.

Modern LEDs tend to be lime green. The old LEDs were closer to true green.

Search for pics of old devices or better yet, go to a thrift store and find an electronic device from the 70s. That should point you in the right direction.

Also, the modern red LEDs sometimes tend to be magenta and super bright. Super Brights did not exist in 1981.

One last thing: the side switch on the clip is white. These have been difficult to obtain in the past.

Looks clean! As for the color of green leds, I can't be specific on color, but I have read either or on PS that the green leds used back in the 80s were a darker shade of green than what most people can get today. So I would keep that in mind when choosing a color. Here are som screen shots from the WorldCon photos and some shots of the hero prior to auction. Hope this helps. I look foward to seeing what the final pricing is for your boards.

When do you expect to make these available?
I hope to get them out before the end of the year. Right now, I am drafting the instruction manuals for both versions and waiting for one more component before I end the Prototyping stage and also, gathering parts. By then, I hope my friend, who is running a Sales Platform, would be able to help since his shipping is way much faster than my conventional 3 months.

But do visit my Website once in a while since I don't update much on my Facebook Page.

Thanks for the images. Both green LEDs I had had the same colour. Its when they were lit, the green were of different shades. I don't have the price yet and when the time comes, I'll take a looksee on how much they are being sold on online. Mine uses a microcontroller for the different light effects compared to simple current limiting resistors.

But do know the Ghost version would cost a little more since it is not powered by a CR2032 but with a Lipo battery (due to the Ice Blue LEDs needing at least 3.2volts to operate). I'll be making a USB Type-C adaptor board to charge it as well.

You could modify the ghost to accept a CR2064. It would last a little longer than the 2032.
I'm not too familiar with the CR2064 but if it is a Coin cell, their voltage is still most probably 3.0v. During initial tests, the Ghost Ice Blue LEDs were OK but as soon as the new battery's voltage dropped from about 3.3v to 3.0v, the LEDs got seriously dim to the point I can't even be sure if it is lighting up anymore. So, these batteries can get 'exhausted' very fast. In this case, its not about the battery's current capacity but more on the voltage level where the 3.2v Ice Blue LEDs can start to function.

So, the next best solution would be the LiPo which is 3.7v and the user can choose any size just as long as it fits into the clip.

You are probably being sarcastic but the ghost version is polished metal instead of painted black or blued, or aged and I have one built from a tomen kit, and I'm seriously interested in a good LED kit. Following. . .

Ha... I do have a problem with that since they (sarcasm) usually fly over my head.

But yeah, while I was searching for Worldcon images, I did see some very beautiful polished white ones, which I have to assumed were Ghost versions. And so, this gave me the idea to go a separate Ghost board with 'Hearbeat' as lighting effects. Below is an old video of me testing the Prototypes. Do be aware that the serious flickering in the video is not so apparent when viewed in person.

So cool! Would love to replace my lights with yours. Especially ghost. Nice I love the serious flicker. Ha!

the heartbeat is a nice touch.

Would you ever do a sound board as well?

Anyways nice, I hope these will be offered to buy.

Thanks. My design was based on AndersFP 3D files which I took measurement of so, the position of the LEDs are quite tight. For the Tomenosuke, you might need to desolder the LEDs and rewire them to fit the holes.

However, this is giving me ideas to try to fit a Tomenosuke. In other words, I am going to re-do the board and add this feature if possible. Please be patient as I am going to finalise the design this weekend and hopefully get them in two week's time.

Um, I need your help guys.
I ran into a small issue: I forgot the measurement about the LEDs. Can anyone help?
Because if the distance are quite close to AndersFP's, then the re-design to the boards are possible. Otherwise, you'd need to desolder the LEDs and re-solder them.

I also have a feeling the measurement between the switch and the bottom LED is also going to put a wedge in the re-design plans. Sigh.

Good Morning, peeps,

Here is the latest progress on the PKD2019 board. After removing the CR2032 battery holder, I added a few more features to the board such as:
1. Extra connection for other circuits which can utilise 3.7volts (only after the Blaster is switched on)
2. Blinking 'hearbeat' for when you want to show-off the Blaster
3. JST Connectors for LiPo batteries, and.
4. Made the 4 red LEDs to be flexible, and hopefully it can be fitted into other Blasters whose design is close to the AndersFP files.

You can read the details here on my Website and the video is below.

Nice, but:

Green LED color is still Charms candy green not true green and the side switch is still black.

The white switch is a challenge, but it is correct.

Sweeet! I dig the blinking fun light!

Can you show me the green? I have no idea the colour for Charms Candy Green (we don't have Charms here in Malaysia).

Edit:
Yes, I've tried looking for the exact white switch but it's impossible. So, maybe one has to paint the switch's spindle white.
