I hate to be fussy, but I'd be hesitant about starting to state that these 2 pairs of side rivets are different sizes as verified fact at this point. I don't think I'm alone (or at least it sounds like lonepigeon might agree with me based on this post here) in suggesting that the lighting and angle of view in the below photo are potentially giving an inaccurate impression of the comparative size of the rivets. There's enough wiggle room in interpretation of photographs to account for a perceived difference in size. My gut is still saying that all these rivets, both on the side and holding in the D-ring, are all the same size... I just thought it might be worthwhile to mention before people start etching these ideas in stone as absolute fact! ;)

I'd say the light reflection blowing out on the ones to the right could also be making them look larger than they are, but it's hard to say.

Agreed. No offense to Roy and his excellent modeling skills, but my gut instinct upon seeing the photo was that the light reflecting off of the right pair of rivets is blowing them out and creating the optical illusion that they’re larger than they really are. Both the left and right rivets appear perfectly aligned, and surely bigger rivets would sit further down the tube, since they take up more space. But the bottom edges of the lowers rivets on both sides are aligned, and the top edges of the upper rivets also appear aligned, and don’t go past the bottom edge/endcap of the flash tube. There appears to be little or no space between each pair of rivets, too. So, if all of the rivets are in line with each other, and there’s no appreciable gap between each pair, then that makes me think they’re the same size.

Halliwax my man, coming through with the high res Elstree shots!

Joek3rr is right, that saber got a strong amount of force to the end. Bulbous tube, concave bottom, as well as the scratches and dents.

The socket, missing it's lip, has slid down the graflex body a bit, leaving a gap in the screw hole and the upper sockets.

Sorry this was a bit of a bump & forgot to quote

My post #679 is an my considered explanation for this being vice damage. post #253 &678 show at least one other person also thinks so & post # 677 is also disagreeing it was dropping damage & why.

I really wanna see the insides of that thing... but I'd be afraid of something snapping when undoing the clamp.

My allergist has this tiny camera that's a pinhead on the end of a fiber optic line. If puts it up my nose, the technology exists to snake something inside the graflex.

I'm not quite understanding how the damage to the bottom could be as a result of a vise. What if the Elstree hilt's bottom plate came loose after they installed the D-ring clip, and to reinstall the loose plate they hammered it with a framing, waffle faced hammer leaving behind the patterned dents/ridges on the bottom rim.
