New BSG - Jump Key

Did you get quote for different quantities? 20 sets of parts would be a LOT cheaper than 10 since the main cost is in the setup of the tools which needs to be spread out to all the pieces.

And I second that you don't have to put it together.

A mmachinist i spoke to some time ago, quoted me $200 for the raw machined parts alone, add the sticks to that plus the electronics and a little something for my time of designing, polishing and building, that would be too expensive imho.

I am meeting another CNC machinist next week and will ask for a quote from him as well.

i think the quote was for 10-15 sets. I know it would get cheaper if i got a higher quantity, but it would require the interrest to match.

If you sold them without the work of finishing or assembling, though, the cost would be lower; I'd be willing to pay more to have one made of metal even if I had to finish it myself.

I agree.

I would be more than willing to pay more for a metal FTL key.

Glad to see that people are interested! :)

Sounds great. I'd be happy to pay for a metal one finished out. If you go resin, I'll buy that too, but I'd sure rather pay more and get a metal one. It won't feel "real" without being metal.

I am definitely in for the resin light up in the $80 or less range.

Like many others I would rather have a metal one, but money is tight right now and I don't know if I can swing it. I certainly have no problem with a kit that I finish myself. That would be my preference as it's likely to lower the cost and increase my chances of participating. A $200+ finished piece just isn't in my budget right now.

What colour are the light sticks you guys are using when they are switched off? The only ones I seem to be able to find are green when the led is switched off.

Yeah, the sticks are clear, and the little 'fiber optic' lines appear white when the stick is turned off (and of course, blue LED). I ordered some of those cheap green-colored ones, and they were about half the size of the ones in the FTL Key... It's hard to tell how big they are from pictures. :rolleyes

I believe the ones they used are the LED-Lenser brand Flash Fire, model LL7596 (or the Coast Cutlery Tek Torch Personal Light, model T7596CP (seen in first post)). They appear to be the same thing, I have an LL7596 on it's way, and I'll see if it matches...

Do a Google search for LL7596 and you can find retailers that have them in stock, there's even at least one vendor on Amazon that has them...
