New BSG - Jump Key

After seeing the previews for the next weeks episode I noticed that the jump key makes another appearance. I don't think the prop has been seen since the mini series or possibly one of the first episodes.

As far as I know the metal part of the prop has yet to be identified. I found out what was used for the blue light up portion of the key... simply a light wand attachment for a LED flashlight similar to this one:

Here's a montage of the key:

I don't have the DVDs but here are a couple of other (crappy) caps...

If anyone has any better caps, please post them here.

I still say it looks like the stripped body of some type of staple gun..the folded metal part looks like the part that holds the staples..

Is that a tiny apple on the key?
[/b]

A couple people have commented about that before but when watching the scene in motion it appears as a hole. The piece seems very solid and the grove on the one side seems to imply that either the original piece either slides into something or something mounts on it.

Hmm... I've not heard that before. What part of the staple gun are you referring to? I don't really see which part would look right.

not neccesarily the T-50, just saying the folded edges and the beveled ends of that one side make it look like the part that holds the spring-cock for staples..The "dovetailed" bits and the indent on the other side look very familiar..just can't place it..
That does look like a tiny apple stamped in...hmmm..I'll keep looking for ya..

FWIW, that safety light was also issued as a lightsaber keychain a few years back as a pack-in with some star wars PC game. Don't remember which game, but I think I still have the light.

All it was was that light with the Star Wars logo printed on it. And for some reason, it was a strobe light instead a steady beam :confused

It sure looks like an apple to me.

what season/episode is it? I got the DVDs and can get clear screencaps of them
[/b]

Could be wrong but I think the only time it's seen is the first jump in the mini series when the Galactica has to do it's first jump. They make a big deal out of it, the key is stored in a case and there's even a cover over the key slot. Would love to see some larger, clearer shots of the key and possibly the box. Thanks.

In that very last shot of the key, that long rounded part on the side reminds me of a deep socket from a socket wrench set with a tapered end where you'd put in the socket wrench.

i dunno what it is, and i hate the show, but it glows blue and looks neat. color me interested in figuring out how to make one :D

personally i think the box is totally custom made. i cant think of anything offhand that would have room for 2 custom little lights on the bottom, and be shaped like that as well.

the other reason i think its custom is the fact its a pretty important piece. a lot of times people use stuff in movies (as im sure 99.9999999999999999999999% of you know) thats off the shelf but slightly modified (riddick swing blades, operatives sword, etc), but i cant think of anything that has the same shape as this thingie.

but, honestly the first thing i thought of was some kind of automotive light/sound setup thing. ive seen shapes like this at autozone and various other mechanics places that do crap i dont know about (i listen to my radio and dont feel that the rest of the world needs to hear my music or the loud thumping bass of it).

maybe some extra screen caps or a quick avi file of it in use might help out a bit.

The cylindrical part looks kind of like a long socket wrench bit. Not sure what to say about the rest, or the round "emitter" with the holes in it. I wants one though. :p The $1 store always has the wands, maybe I'll go get a few just in case we figure out the whole prop. :D

The clear, acrylic parts are found on some light wands, Coast makes several. These are a little price and not like many that are in the "5-n-Dime" stores.

A deep socket eh? That's pretty good... it does indeed look like a socket. That hole that looks like an apple logo, I think, is a hole for a screw or bolt to hold the piece together.

Chris, I don't know that they thought the prop was pivotal or not as it only got minimal screen time and as noted, I think it only made it into the mini series. It's nice to see that it will get some more use although it may be minimal as well.

Looking forward to more screencaps LilOleBountyHunter.

Resurrecting this thread... :lol

I'm all about the obscure props and the jump key has been a favorite from the new show. Here's another cap from season 4 that shows a little more detail but still not enough to tell if or what the found item is other than the acrylic tip identified above.

This one has also piqued my interest for some time. I always thought the body was made from one of those large high-dollar butane cigar lighters (based on the ported emitter flange for the lighted tube). I'll ask around to some guys involved in the props auction.

I swear that looks like the apple logo on the side.

I've shown the images to a few of my Apple friends, two of which have had almost every Apple product ever created. :lol Not one of them recognized the piece nor could they come up with anything remotely similar.

The cigar lighter is a good idea to research... (y)thumbsup

I too thought Cigar lighter, but given the size of the thing, it would have to be the biggest cigar lighter I have ever seen.

The more I look at it the more I think it's at least partially scratchbuilt. I ran it past a friend of mine and he thinks the round part could be a knuckle socket. The more I look at the "vented" part I think it was scratch built. The holes don't look evenly spaced.
