New BSG - Jump Key

Looks very cool, but the block section is too long.
It should end before the ring of holes as in the photo posted of the original prop.

It looks like the block is probably two separate pieces too (probably to remove the lower light rod and change batteries). Both piece the same width, so what we're seeing is a seam line, not a change in thickness. I wonder if there's a countersunk screw or something on the back keeping this together?

BTW - Which of those original prop photos is correct?
They are the same pic but flipped.
Which also opens up a question - What does the other side look like?

tweaked the 3d model, body is the correct length now, and i made a groove so the upper section can slide on the body to secure it.

A machinist is currently looking at the 3d model to see how much it would cost to CNC the parts. If there is enough interrest i might consider doing a run, probably as resin kits as well.

Armament key model is next

Couple of differences to note between the Jump Key coming up for auction and the screen caps of the key in action that show it's probably a back up piece.

BSG auction photo of Jump Key:

1. First is the slot or key design on both sides of the piece. This is the key used in the mini-series.

1. The body of the key has three main pieces. The tube, the back piece and the separate portion holding the other acrylic tube. This cap shows that the separate piece is a bit wider than the back piece, unlike the item coming up for auction which is flush.

3. Lastly, it's clear in most of the screen caps of the key that the body is polished whereas the auction piece isn't.

The actual prop sold at the live auction for $3,000!

If you make a run of these, I hope they'll cost a bit under that... ;)

LARGE images of the key from the auction here.

Though the auction key doesn't quite match the screncaps, if you look, you can just make out a matching cutout in the side of the on-screen jump key:

Also, it looks like the bottom of the circular lip around the upper blue rod has a flat bottom, also like the auction key. The auction version is missing the groove at the bottom, the step where the upper and lower halves of the body meet, and whatever that dark dot is, which I still think may be a screw hole of some kind.

I just checked the catalog and the one sold is the Mini-series jump key. The one in the caps should be the lost season 1 key.
