Thanks I can't wait to see it finished. I've always wanted an accurate Falcon, but the Ertl was too much work and the Fine Molds WAY to expensive(for me, anyway) There are so many options with this "toy". I just wish they would do a Star Destroyer lol

I have this sneeeeeaky suspicion we may get that wish actually. Don't know if you guys follow the Hasbro news, but the list of 2015 toys includes a number of new Hero Series vehicles (as well as a 6" Black Series starfighter! I wonder what THAT could be?!). The line clearly paid off well enough for Hasbro to continue developing it, and again, if I'm Hasbro, there are a handful of truly iconic vehicles which really, REALLY suit the limited articulation, giant hollow injection molded ship rules for this line, and the ISD has GOT to be one of them.

I appreciate the prompt reply and thank you. I was hoping that you could, I tried, I was looking somewhere, earlier in this thread, that one of the member's
had placed a pair of Micro machine Han Solo and Chewy, but, these are not available anywhere, I figured it would look really cool,
since we ( almost all ) are cutting the windows open and using your interior set and that ,those figures would look good, in flight .

I'm using 123 Design from Autodesk. It's a free software -I'm on the subscribed version- that's very simple to use. You can use also Blender -totally free-, but is far more complicated.

How to make a design printable? That's the matter pal! It must be designed to be printable, with a software focused to 3D print. You can use too 3D Max and some others, but you have to create your designs with the 3D printing in mind. To create 3D objects you must use solid elements, not sheets with zero thickness.
The master program for 3D design is SolidWorks, but it's very expensive and is for engineers, mainly.

And after that, you must know the properties of the material in which your product will be printed: wall minimum thickness, minimum wire thickness, etc. Too thin and it will break or not will be printable. Too thick and it will loose all the details... And so on. You must reach a perfect balance between printability and detail.

It's a science in itself, with lots of knowledge in so different areas.

Try it and you will be amazed on how time consuming is!!!

There are lots of 3d CAD programs from Sketchup to Blender to AutoCAD (computer aided design) and Solidworks and everything in-between. They need to be able to export a .STL file as a minimum. Some CAM (computer aided machining) programs, like Cura, can import .OBJ files, which are much more common, as that is more used for things like, oh, movie CGI. These applications take the 3d CAD drawing and turn it into G-Code which is what 3d printers talk.

I would be open to making a han and chewie I make video games so I do know how to model! Only thing I'm fuzzy on is scale from 3ds max to shapeways. I've avoided making my own parts as to not deal with that so far ...but when Tony runs out of steam , I was planning on doing some (things that he didn't get to)

Yes, found in a Philadelphia suburb's store. Check availability on a store by store basis near you using the website. I bought the Hero Series X Wing in a store willing to price match their own website at $24.88 but the next day it went down even further to 18.44. Go figure.

I remembered someone on herescored a falcon for thirty so when I found them for $45 I was still prepared to pay. The website has them currently priced at 69.96 so who knows how they do it.

I've talked to Tony and he has offered to help me figure out the shapeway issues. So I will make a HAN-SOLO and we can see how that turns out.... If I make some people happy, we can talk chewie...etc...

Yeah I wanted another one..but 70 bucks was a bit much...I will have to venture to a store to see the deal...

Hoping you guys are having a great day!

I went to the local hardware store today and bought me some PVC vacuum pipes with dimensions close to scale to see if it would work.


testing the parts dimensionally, I believe it would work...The 90 Sweep elbows has a inner diameter of 2 inches while the big adapter in 4 1/4 inch.



The cross section will also fit as to scale....Lets see....a lot of cutting and testing to do ..



Here is also my attempt to scratch build the landing gears...I just can't wait for Tony's resin kit no long.....Mr. Tony..please save me....
