New BMF coming

Is anybody doing anything to reinforce the Falcon from the inside? I've seen someone fill a bag placed inside the model with foam, but has anyone used any metal strips or anything?
The skin of the Falcon seems kind of weak around the radar dish.

Keith.

It's a VERY fair price for the work, artistry, materials, and labor put into a conversion kit. The cost of what you're putting it onto is irrelevant.

Not saying the work isn't worth it but i personally can't justify the cost is all. I just went ahead and grabbed a legacy falcon for $18 dollars which I'm going to cut up and mold the side rails etc

I'm planning on using spacebob's method of plywood reinforcement which I will include several mounting points into. Spacebob later posted the templates for this frame for use if needed.

Hi Keith
I am using aluminium box section in two thicknesses to create a skeleton that will make it more rigid but also support other internal structures and lighting rig, I know someone else used a similar method earlier in this thread but I cannot remember who.i have 5 mounting points with an option for a 6th , but I think I have enough. I am also looking at framing the exterior walls so they can be removed when required later on .

Walmart has the BMF on clearance for $30 I just grabbed 2 at my local and they had 2 more

Am I wrong or is a budget friendly resin kit in the works? I know randy cooper is offering a conversion kit for $120 but that is a tad salty for a $30 dollar toy. Kinda stuck in limbo. Debating on picking up a butchered Legacy Falcon for parts.

Good you grabbed it for $30!!!

Yes, Mike Salzo is doing a resin kit for the Hasbro. You can see the parts list some post above. These parts are done using 3D printed parts as a master. The kit will be totally accurized for the 32" version, following closely the details of the filming studio model.

Tony,

I noticed on your MPC Falcon Cone you added the side consoles. Any chance we could get a New Hasbro Cone that has them???

Thanks

Tom

Yes, I can do them.

As soon as possible, of course.

:cool

As far as your reinforcing question goes with me Keith

The plywood frame that I made is working really well, It is usually screwed to the bottom half of the falcon and fits fine.
When the top is in place there is a little bit of room, not much, 1 or 2mm in places and will be set with silicone or filler when it finally goes on.

It still needs a little more to take the bounce out. The green Photoshop lines show where I will be reinforcing with very slightly curved 1.5 mm styrene when I finish gluing the other details back in.

The photo also shows the changed jawbox from the inside with its reinforcing in progress :)

Are you selling those? Where to buy?

I haven't been around these parts lately but have been watching this thread while working on one of these myself. I have received many parts from FZ6 and they are amazeballs. While I love the parts, I am a 3D artist (mostly real time visualization/simulation/training-video games sans fun) so while not wanting to re-invent the wheel, I felt guilty for not getting my hands dirty and contributing. I have not made these parts available on Shapeways yet and I plan a few more pieces,if people are into it I will put them up. I am going for the 5 Footer so beware. The Tank Deck vents are spiral on both sides, instead of one being "straight",and there is no hinge represented on the door. Both due to "good enough for me" laziness:$. The fins are as good as reference would allow me. Next up for me would be the center engine area that connects the center control flap and Tank deck (Panzer?)View attachment 427152View attachment 427153View attachment 427154These are my first prints and Im pretty stoked (god I'm old)

These i mean?

Thanks for the info on the reinforcing. So much on this falcon to read i missed it.
Spacebob, why don't you make the plywood reinforcing frames to sell to UK people like me who hate woodwork?

Keith.

This whole thread has been a great read Keith. It's worth going back over. There's some great paint and glue tips in here as those things are very difficult on this thing. But us Stormtrooper nuts know what it's like to play around with plastic close to this stuff.;)

Hi guys, Just a quick one on the paint subject, Which is much better method: Use a darker primer then apply the off-white top coat or Use a lighter primer then spray the lines and crevices with smoke black then apply the top coat. Also The top coat should it be Off-White or more on Biege (i.e like very light german desert armour color). I can't tell from the 5 footer model if it is actually yellowish or it is because of the lighting.

Help needed from the experienced falcon builders , I was just measuring my side walls to replace and found three depths of sidewall, outer mandibles 21 mm , waistband 25mm and rear clam shell 22mm
can anyone help with what the 5 footer wall measurements were (and what scale that was (I seen the 5 foot model representing 34 metres long) ) and was the side wall consistent all the way around or did it have different depths
thanks I am replicating the 5 footer
Brian

Andre will shortly be publishing some more detailed information on the 5 footer using photogrammetry techniques, allied with analysis of the original kit parts.

See his thread here for details. It is awesome work.

Thanks for that , I threw the question up there as well as I need to purchase raw material and want to match it to the side wall depth , hopefully someone has the information to hand as I don't require diagrams etc :)

My thought in highlighting Andre's work was that if you look at the thread in detail you can see numerous shots where the actual dimensions of key parts of the 5 foot filming model are called out.

By comparing the height for key parts to the Hasbro model, you can then do the math to tell you how high the sidewalls should be to replicate the proportions of the five footer.

Post #34 is a good example of what I'm talking about. Apologies if this does not make sense.

just going through them now, thanks

They are on clearance at Walmart now. My store had a few left. I would think shipping would be salty though.

Meanwhile, Walmart Canada doesn't believe in clearance - they're apparently going to stubbornly stick it out at seventy bucks for the Falcon. Sigh. In other news, I'm feeling wwwwwaaaaaaaaay too self satisfied this morning, having cast my very first resin piece ever, and am starting to churn out some engine vents from the Legacy Falcon. I was hoping to just drop very thin casts in on top of the HS vents as I do not at ALL like how this polypropylene stuff files and sands and I'm concerned about cutting nice, clean circles out of the engine deck, but it looks like the BMF vents are ever so slightly too big so there's not much option.

Walmart here(Usa) is sticking with $69 buck price
