New BMF coming

I just picked up my second Hasbro Falcon on Monday. I'll be ripping into it this weekend!

Has anyone ordered the cockpit and back wall from Shapeways yet? I'll be ordering my first set next week.

Why not just go off the MR, or shot of the original? Or are you looking for on-hand tangible reference?

I'm having trouble finding good pics of the sides of the original, or the mr for that matter.
Do you have some better pics, the only clear one i have are of the finemolds :)

Hi Jay, I used that as reference :) Are you going to paint yours soon - would love to see the big one in stages, too! I used pre-shading on my 1/144 but it didn't turn out as nice as your 1/72 did so it's been on the backburner for ages. At one point it looked superb, then I said just a little more weathering, and all of a sudden it looked like something that came out of the chimney. The paintjob makes or breaks the Falcon and I still remember what Rob said -- it's what people notice first before the details.

When I get around to it, I'll be documenting my paintjob in stages as well. How soon I do it will depend on how motivated I am when the first of my Shapeways parts arrive in a couple weeks. The Falcon is also one of those projects where one really has to be in the proper state of mind to tackle it. At least this one doesn't cost what the FineMolds did, but the parts bill is starting to climb just a bit with the goodies I've been wanting to get for it.

Thanks for the links guys but I'm still having trouble finding pics of the rear sidewall on the canopy side on the screen used,
it must be its least photogenic angle.
Remember I'm new to this. I mostly make 1:1 scale droids, so treat me as green as they come but I will get this right (95% at least) :)

Thanks Robn1, Shatner would be proud :)

Just got back from Argos with mine. This is gonna be my best and most exciting build ever :)

Out of interest, has anyone taken measurements of the side panels yet? Im aiming to do what Spacebob is doing (great job BTW) and Glunark. Im going for a 'can i build a Falcon prop similar to the MR using a £30 toy and scratch built bits ' build :D

Guys,

Does the cockpit pop off on this??? Ive removed the two screws on the bottom and am unsure how to get the cockpit off :) Do i need to cut it off?

Thanks

Lee

Its tricky, you are better off undoing all the screws, even then you have to prise a screwdriver under it to try and lever it off.

Found another bargain that will help me, a 98p fibre optic lamp on amazon, with free delivery, all the reviews are terrible, saying the fibre optics fall out and the lamp is useless, which is fine by me as all I want is the FO, ordered four for the cockpit, that should be plenty for all the buttons and lights on the back and side walls.

I't actually on there the same way as the docking ports. You have to push a screwdriver in-between the two pieces on the bottom pushing towards the tab. It will unlock [the bottom] without much difficulty.

I have a dream,
any one who wants to have a crack at a near studio scale falcon without spending hardly any £$ on upgrades can easily do this as a winter project.

I already posted the front sidewall pics modified from the sticker sheet, the other bits were &£*% on the sheet. so the rest is a bit harder.

Ok, here are the fast and dirty templates for the rest of the sidewalls.
pics are crap (really crap) but they will work I have corrected most of the perspective issues.(remember they will look fine when they are painted.)
Print from photoshop and you can set the width of the print.

printer-starweb2.jpg click pics for full res
Just behind the canopy, print 50mm wide

Rear, canopy side, print157mm wide

Portsideprint02-web.jpg
Offside front, print 121mm wide

Offside rear, print 157mm wide.

use these as a base and build up on top, make them from whatever you can get hold of, mine will be mostly card.... glue with superglue and it all goes as hard as resin and works really well.
good luck :)

Ok....so the wife is out of town for the weekend so what better time to start on the new BMF.

My achillies heel is I start on a project and get it 80% then shelve it. Thats why I like toy conversions so much, and this one is no different. I got home late last night and the primer was dry enough (2 days).

With out boring y'all, this is after 7 hours in the garage. Noting but a paint job. I did the panel gaps in a dark grey on top of the primer (airbrush) then a custom blend of a flat white with some tan and a touch of black. I totally cheated and used the existing sticker diagram for 'what colors go where' combined with online ref pics. I just started to do some dry brushing but im pooped for today. Its really cool to see how the colors change from light source to light source and direct light.
