New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

They should have left the screws in. An exact replica is always better than an idealized one. But that being said, I'm happy with my remote.

If it was 100% exact then it wouldn't have any sound or functions. Besides, the paint job clearly indicates that on the 'real' sonic (as used by The Doctor, and not the prop used by an actor) the screw isn't meant to be there. So in that case I'm happy with mine being 95 to 99% accurate.

i just realized, sorry for the fussiness but, why isnt the tube on the remote frosted and is it possible to frost if yourself without frosting the outer one, if that makes sense

TWC has stated before that many inaccuracies are due to them wanting to keep a low price point. In other words, you could probably point out 10-20 small details that differ from one screen used version or another, but to reconcile all of those differences would be to change the process by which they manufacture this commercially available product, and the cost would go from $100 to around $200 or $300. Asking just about any question of "why didn't they..." will likely yield you the same answer - it would have driven the cost up and less people would be able to afford it.

If we could get a guide on opening one up I'm sure there are ways to make it how you like , would be easy to drill and tap a hole for a couple screws and I'm sure you could scratch up the inside of the clear section to make it look more frosted

I believe the inner tube was drilled out and the effect you see is the damage from the drill, on other versions you can clearly see the twisted wires inside so it is not intentionally 'frosted'.

Unfortunately i have no pics of the process but i can post pics of the actual peices if you need help dismantling it please ask kindly,
thanks

I'm going to make a thread about the parts of the universal remote and the aztec conversion but it won't let me make a thread, I've never done it before please may anybody tell me how to, sorry about this not being about the universal remote but I know people post regularly on this, btw I use an iPad
3. Ignore this ive done it.

I still have no photos of the process of how to open the sonic, but I will update this post after with photos, I have heard that the crackle pattern used images and put then together and used it for the mould or something like that but please explain it in detail to be easy to understand, thanks
also to open your sonic use scissors to push the teeth and collar upwards, you can now slide the electronics out, It's easy but watch out it might go flying, I also twisted the bottom piece as hard as i could to get the bottom part of them pull the emmiter of the glass tube and pull the button of with scissors, take of the blue end dome by using scissors then cut of the infrared led board.

@ Dr who props - good luck!!!

All -

Why is everyone bringing the cracks out on their sonics by darkening them???

If you look at David's sonic (the one the wand company used) the handle isn't that dark. With the exception of Richard's, every handle I've seen on this thread has over done the effect and has a handle which is too dark in colour.

What's the point???

I found that black washing mine made the handle darken as a whole , if I where to do it again I would use a light gray paint wash rather than black that I think would have given better results.

Do you think that any form of darkening/enhancing the cracks is necessary??? I mean - look at the picture above of DT's sonic being scanned by the wand company - is it that different from your own sonic (before you changed it a bit)???

Do you have a picture of your sonic's handle???

Depends on the person lol but I couldn't resist tinkering , It does need to be a little darker but it was more a task of what could be done than what needed to be. Il see if I have a photo I can upload on my phone

I can see how it might work - fair play to you - I'm too nervous to do anything a the moment - were you shaking when you applied the black washing???

I mean your sonic is obviously unique now and very, very cool - but I'm not convinced that I need to risk it with my clumsy fingers!!!

:) , I was a little nervous but figured if i wasn't happy with it its acrylic paint so wouldn't be too hard to remove. Trick seemed to be to leave it on there for a good few hours before wiping the excess away then just carefully remove any bits of paint left behind on the non cracked areas with a piece of flat plastic.

There was a section where the paint just wouldn't stick and ended up going over it a good few times which has given that area a much darker crackle but I think a cream wash now would make it spot on.
