New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

I think you may have missed the 'November' part. ie. a month away.

No, seriously, it says "expected in 2-4 days on my account" and "2-4 weeks on the site"
I got a mail 2 days ago that they expected stock next week and I would get my sonic as soon as it was ready, but Richard said that the Firebox stock had been sent last Friday as well. Howcome they haven't received it yet?

Oh wait. Sorry, YOU said November. Didn't see that, no.

Yeah well I'm not sure what's going on but i'll be pretty annoyed if i have to wait another month. Not that i am blaming anyone here. Most likely the website jerking around.

Richard, could you please help me out here. I got mine just yesterday and I plugged it in to charge, but then when I went to unplug it, it felt hot and wouldn't turn back on. I think that it burnt out somehow. Is there a way to fix it? What should I do? But on a lighter note, thank you for creating such a wonderful prop and piece of art. Thank you Richard.

I have an email from Mighty Ape (New Zealand) that says the expected release date is now the 30th of November? Any idea what is taking them so long as you said a while back that they were picking up their shipment.

I'm afraid I've no idea why their website is saying that. I'm not directly involved in working with them, but from the emails I was copied on, it looks like they collected their first shipment from Hong Kong a week or so ago, and their second shipment (which contains the balance of their order with us) is due to be collected on 4th November. I guess it might be that they're planning to ship out their pre-orders soon-ish, but won't be showing the product as "in stock" on their website until the second shipment reaches New Zealand. It's also possible that they might not necessarily ship our products out from Hong Kong as soon as they collect them from us - they might want to consolidate a few different items from different suppliers, and ship them all together to reduce the per-unit shipping costs.

We did indeed send stock out to Firebox (and Forbidden Planet and BBC Shop) on Friday, so I would expect them to receive it tomorrow (Monday) and they'll hopefully start dispatching soon after that.

Oh, crikey - that doesn't sound good at all - I'm really sorry about that. Please send us an email to sonic@thewandcompany.com and we'll get it repaired or replaced for you as quickly as possible.

I love that my first post is to this thread. Received my Sonic yesterday and used it for a costume contest. I lost to my wife, but I made her Steampunk costume so I won anyway! This thing is AMAZING. I love the end product and I especially love the customer service from TWC. You guys have a loyal customer for life in me! Also I have referred three people to your site and product already! Best part of the evening was messing with the bar TV's all evening. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I preordered mine but it sill says I have to wait a month :(
Oh well, thanks for your help, I've already contacted the website so hopefully I can at least find out what's going on.

Haha - I'm delighted to hear that you're having fun with it! Many thanks for all your enthusiasm, and for the referrals.

OK - good luck!

Mine has been sitting in Southern Pines at the UPS center since 3am Saturday for delivery tomorrow. It was to be a surprise for my son, then I'd get mine for Christmas, but he got a call Tuesday to report for Basic Training This morning. As much as I've been waiting for this, being the dad of a Marine recruit makes this pale just a little bit. :D

I signed up for the email alert from Think Geek awhile back then completely forgot about about it until now because I didn't get the email announcing the item in stock. Lucky for me, I came across this thread again browsing the replica props forum and in great timing as it seems like the bulk of the orders from TG have been occurring this week. I ordered a second as a birthday present for my brother as well...might get a third while I'm at it, seeing as for the cost of any one of the other replicas that this one rivals, I could get 3-4 of these :lol

Anyway, big thanks to this thread for the reminder! I literally left a pot on the stove boiling water while I quickly checked TG to make sure it was available!

I've been waiting until people started to receive them to see what they thought of it and since 99.99% of the reviews have been great, I've gone ahead and ordered one from Thinkgeek. I was very happy to see that they have these in stock and are offering free shipping.

Mine showed up on Saturday (just in time to use it in some early Halloween festivities as the 9th Doctor) and it's really fantastic! It knocked around in my coat pocket and was waved at people all night and there's nary a scratch on it.

The only small issue, and part of this is my user error, is that the button can be a bit fiddly/sticky when the sonic is in the extended position, but as Richard said it should loosen up over time. And with practice I'm getting better at hitting the sweet spot for clean operation of the button.

I also wanted to comment on the stand and case. The overall presentation is really lovely (I got a kick out of realizing the inserts are a bit Nerf-ish) and the stand looks nice and subdued on the coffee table. It does a great job at keeping the sonic in place, even when the table is jiggled. I had friends over yesterday and they were fascinated by the stand almost as much as the remote :lol

Thank you for making such a wonderful product!

Really chuffed that you like it. Of course for any replica product, the presentation, display and manual is where we get to design something of our own that we hope will compliment and show off the product, that will make it even more immersive as an experience and thus of course that will help the fans get even more enjoyment and satisfaction from their purchase. Right from the start I had wanted the Sonic to come in a foam filled display case, a cross between a microscope side box and a gun case. The vaguely military, self-skinned foam was not a cheap option in the overall bill of materials and from a cost point of view it would have been tempting to go for the more usual vacuum formed blister which is 100 times cheaper, but it would not have been nearly as nice. The foam also gave us the opportunity to add some nice extra feature detail to the whole product proposition to enhance the Sonic itself.

The same goes for the stand. We wanted to create an iconic piece that although simple, had weight and quality to it and if the owner already had an Eleventh Doctor's Sonic, create something that was different, yet allowed both products to be displayed together. To me David Tennant was a more scientific doctor than the rather scatty and slightly steampunky Matt Smith which directed us away from the display case and dust cover we designed for the Eleventh Doctor's Sonic. The classic view of the Ten Doctor's Sonic is with David Tennant holding it up vertically, and that thus was clearly the obvious orientation for the displaying sonic.

When we are designing these accessory elements, there are tough decisions to be made. It's hard to no where to stop with the frills and we can't be sure that they will hit the mark and really add to the presentation or just add unnecessary cost to the manufacture, so it is great to know that that those decisions we made are appreciated.
