New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

Mine's arriving tommorow! Soo excited! Does anyone know if it has a charge out of the box or do I need to charge it immediately? I really just cant wait to play with it

I got mine! I have no complaints, it has no physical defects, and looks great. The head isn't dented, no scratches, nothings crooked. And the teeth match up great.

Amazing product Richard and Chris and all everyone else from the wand company as well!

Just received mine in the post. WOW! Its pretty nice.

It works a treat and looks great, especially with the box and the stand.

However, something I've noticed is that the aluminium scratches easily, and the weight of it (being so light) does make it feel quite cheap compared to an MFX or others. I think a full metal one would have been nicer, but then again, the cost would be greater and the crackle wouldn't have been so accurate.

The weight of an MFX sonic is 104g. The weight of the wand company's sonic is 45g.

Here are some images of the sonic (note the colour on the handle is much darker than what you will receive, Im in the middle of highlighting the cracks and haven't yet finished it). The Sonic's: bottom is an MFX, the middle: a Remote, and the top: a Rassilon.

Do you think we could get some 'after' pics? If so hooray, id love to see someone's personal darkwash effect

Here you go! I used an old tin of Black ink wash (not regular black ink). Then after it had dried, I used a brush and water to clean most of it off. photo 1.JPGphoto 2.JPG

Got mine in today, I took some hi-res photos and made a review video if anyone is interested in watching. Did a comparison with the toy, as well as with the 11th screwdriver.

Umm...I just got my sonic.

Plugged it in for an hour. Played around with it for a couple of minutes and now its going cuckoo. The sonic FX sound is continuously playing and its not stopping. No amount of button presses is doing anything. Uh....help?

Here is a video of it.

Also, There are some nicks and dents right out of the box. It is very minor but when it is on the front of your Sonic, you do tend to stare at it a lot...

I love it to bits but I think I may have received a faulty one.

EDIT: It ran out of batteries and the sound stopped....

Once again guys, if you're having problems with your sonic they've posted their email addresses on here. Or contact the company you bought it from. Let's not turn the "shipping" thread into the "customer complaint" thread.

When was this ever a "shipping" thread?

Anyways, emails have been sent to the appropriate people. I just thought this was a pretty unique defect.... that can't really be easily fixed (Cant take out the batteries to at least stop the noise)

But honestly. I do love the product. It just feels so nice and fun to play with.
I'd definitely grab another one in the future just to display.

I think this is a thread for discussing the product. Defects and all.
I also started having this same problem with my sonic. It's not all the time. I can't tell what sets it off. The FX mode will start reacting to movement as soon as you switch to it (instead of pushing the button twice) then it seems to get stuck on a sound effect. The light shuts off and it keeps making sounds.
I shook mine and mashed the button a few times and it stopped. It's happened to me twice. This is in its closed or half open position.
The button sticks when it's fully extended, though I'm not sure if that's a feature or not (but I like it).
But yeah, I still really like it. I'm also a little bummed that my emitter head is tilted ever so slightly, but it's a nice little thing.

I'm curious, for those that have problems with theirs, what vendor they ordered from? Maybe there was a batch that got bumped a bunch during shipping to the same vendor or were iffy from the start. And sure, the problem will be resolved through the vendor, but I think it's a good idea to discuss experiences here, as well as possible fixes if there are any. Definitely not a thread for complaints though.

I'm anxiously awaiting mine from Think Geek scheduled for delivery tomorrow, and I ordered two, so I'll play around with both and see if I experience any of the same problems. But as has been mentioned before, it might just be the fresh tactile switch that needs to be worked out a bit before it works smoothly. I'm assuming it's a plunger switch due to the design of the Tenth Doctor's sonic, and I know from experience they can need a good amount of use before 'breaking them in'. It may also be the housing around it that makes up the slider portion that needs a bit of friction on it before the plunger slides freely.

Also, if Chris and/or Richard are still following the thread (which i assume they are because they've been awesome so far being active in the discussion), I'd like to put in my vote for an alternate 8th Doctor's sonic remote. I know they said the next one isn't Doctor Who related but when I did my run for 3d printed DW props, that was the #1 ordered/requested sonic of the bunch, even more than the 10th Doctor's. There's just no solid replicas out there for the 8th Doctor's sonic (although members that posted finished versions of the 3d printed variation are churning out amazing results with the kit!).

Thanks for your post and email. I see the problem, clearly that should not happen. I'll be answering that directly to you via email from The Wand Company.

Sounds like we should consider it at least. have you got any pictures of your 3D printed version that you could share with us?

Absolutely! Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the raw 3d printed model on hand, but here are the finished versions from various members who used the kits

Brilliant, that must have been an amazing kit, those props look great. Richard and I will definitely talk about this. But... don't hold your breath, as he has said, we have enough to be getting on with right now and can't take any more projects on just yet.

BTW, Richard apologises for not replying to any questions at the moment as he is going to be rather tied up and offline for a few days. So you'll have to make do with me.

Much gratitude! Like many on here, I share the sentiment that we're so appreciative of the communication you've both maintained with the community. The fact that you would even consider a fan suggestion like an 8th Doctor's alternate sonic remote says it all! I'm assuming that's how the 10th Doctor's remote came into being? I'm excited to see what lies ahead, Doctor Who or not!

Thank you again, Richard for your patience & long-suffering attitude. I don't believe your passion, craftsmanship, & dedication will be forgotten by many on this forum. This thread should be mandatory reading by eFx, QMx, & any other blank-blank-x companies that have a presence here. THIS is how you design a product. THIS is how you give the customer what they want, & keep them satisfied when things don't go the way they wanted. THIS is how you get a product to the consumer (I'm looking at you QMx...really...don't bother).Bottom line- THIS is how you get things done.

Well... thank you (all) it is a pleasure being able to respond directly to requests from the real customer-fans and understand the features that really make a difference that mean so much to us. It is exactly because of the massive support and enthusiasm we receive from our users, that we put so much effort in to each part of the product design. We love developing these products.

BTW: I'm afraid Richard is offline for a few days so might be a bit slower to reply as his usual 24/7 instant response capability will be a little dulled for the next week or so.

I love my Sonic Screwdriver the only thing I plan is darkening the crackle. Here is something interesting, While playing with my sonic in FX mode my TV went off!. The first thing I did was verify that I had not switched to control mode when I pushed my button it went to practice mode. This has happened twice!!

Sorry for the long silence - my wife had a baby on Monday night, so I'm going to be offline for the next week or so. Chris and Andrew are busy covering for me on everything (and it's a pretty hectic time for the company in general), so please bear with us all.

I got mine today and I was so excited and amazed at how great this sonic really is.
I don't have any problems with it yet, but did notice how much quieter it is compared to the 11th and even more so when not extended.

The speaker in the 10th Doctor's Sonic is definitely quieter than it was for the 11th Doctor's Sonic - to fit everything into a 1:1 scale 10th Doctor's sonic, we had to use a smaller loudspeaker than we had inside our 11th Sonic. As you noticed, you do have to extend the Sonic otherwise it's really, really quiet, and it also reduces the volume if your thumb is covering the slot just behind the slider pad.

Thank you again, Richard for your patience & long-suffering attitude. I don't believe your passion, craftsmanship, & dedication will be forgotten by many on this forum.

Thanks again for all your support along the way!

Keeping people up to date with the firebox situation... I think the people there may be hating me a little because of the number of emails I've sent them, but never mind! I received a reply yesterday saying that they would have the sonics in stock this week and hoped that it would arrive with me sometime this week also.

However as Totterslane67 has pointed out they've now amended their ETA to 1-2 weeks...? Very confused as they already received a shipment on Friday?

Please bear in mind that the ETA stated on our retailers' websites represents their best guess of when they'll have cleared down all their existing pre-orders and be ready to ship new orders. If you've already been told by Firebox that your sonic will ship this week, then you don't need to worry about the changing date on their website - that's been happening because their pre-orders keep coming in faster than we're able deliver new stock to them.

Mine came in today. It feels and sounds great. The head at the end of the clear acrylic is crooked. It doesn't look to be attached to the clear plastic very well on one side so it's lop sided. And the clear tube looks like it is already getting scuffed by opening and closing it and I've had it for less than 30 minutes.

That doesn't sound good - really sorry about those issues. Please email a few photos over to us at sonic@thewandcompany.com and we'll be able to advise you further.

They should have a small amount of charge when delivered, so you might be able to play with it for a few minutes before it needs charging properly.

The sonic FX sound is continuously playing and its not stopping. No amount of button presses is doing anything. Uh....help?

That definitely shouldn't be happening! I see that you're already dealing with it via email with Chris - apologies again for the problems.

That's rather curious. Are you sure that you didn't accidentally triple-press (and hold down) the button in FX Mode, thereby activating the TV-B-Gone feature?

Wow, congratulations!
I think you have more important duties than answering threads for a little while!
All the best

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. A large whiskey and feet up in the chair. It's the last peace you will get for a while! :)
