New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

This is absolutely incredible! I, like some others, was curious how the molded crackle would look, but you guys really hit it out of the park! It looks gorgeous and I am definitely going to be buying at least one of these when they come out...and may not have to put together a 10th Doctor's costume just to go with my new sonic.

Richard, thanks to you and all of TWC for being so awesome, especially for all of your efforts here to be open and upfront with us...considering we're not always the easiest group to get along with when it comes to matters of accuracy, I think the recent pictures and the response to them speak for themselves. You guys should be hugely proud of the product that you're putting out. It might not have every feature that everyone could ever want, but it looks the part, and is actually coming out! As a group used to vaporware and missed deadlines, that last part is huge.

Thanks very much, Nick. The support and encouragement of everyone here on the RPF is greatly appreciated by all of us at TWC. I know that some of the previous discussions about this prop on the RPF got a little messy, but you folks have given us a very warm welcome and it's been a real pleasure chatting with you all.

I have to be honest, im gonna have to rub some darkener into those cracks to satifsy myself. Overall, beautiful build though

Yes, those photos are what it will look like when you receive the product. The only difference is that in the first of those three photos, the button actuator is sitting a bit too low - this is because there weren't any electronics inside that assembly, so the button actuator (which is a transparent light pipe that normally rests on top of the button on the PCB) had dropped down a bit.

AWESOME!

Was there a subliminal message in there somewhere? I must have missed it...

Possibly, subtlety has never been my strong suit! :lol

I know you are going to love this question :lol.

Any idea when the second run will go. I am on the "Will receive an email when available" list on Think Geek so I must have missed the first bunch. :facepalm

Thinkgeek doesn't do preorders and the first batch haven't even been made available yet, so when you get your notification on TG that they're available, that means you can buy one of the first run. You haven't missed anything yet.

Yep, that's correct. I'm no expert on ThinkGeek's systems, but I expect they'll be sending out emails on Monday October 21st, or possibly a day or two earlier.

I've been waiting 8 years for this so another week won't kill me! Still less than a month away, and in time for the 50th! yes, I will be pointing it at the TV as I watch the big special!

At least it'll be in time for the Christmas Special! :)

Edit: As for the Paint, I'm going to try making the cracks darker, but otherwise it looks Spot-on!

I don't think the sample handles have the dark wash on them yet (I think it is a fresh cast). It looks like the proto sonic has some of it done though.

The assembled sonic and the sample handles in those photos were all the same; they do have the dark wash on them, but it's not quite as dark as we'd have liked it to be. However, we felt that it was better to err on the wash being too light rather than too dark - it's then dead easy for the user to darken the cracks a bit if they want to.

I was afraid that this was going to happen!

So I am surfing last night and as always, come to the RPF, and as this thread is of GREAT interest to me right now, I come to look at it and stare at the awesomeness that is the new remote. Just as I click on the picture and make it all big and pretty, my MFX 10th Doctor's sonic screwdriver replica walks into the room.

Usually I would just click the link and minimize it quickly so as not to get caught, but I was so entranced by the Wand Company's sonic pictures that I never heard it enter the room. It walks up behind me and asks, "What are you doing?"

I'm busted, caught oogling another sonic! It is clearly disgusted......it stands over me and asks...."So, is that the new model? Are you no longer satisfied with me?"

In my embarassment, I turn, red faced to it and say...."Sonic, you know you are my first and can never be replaced, but look at her, she's new, she has an ACCURATE paint job AND she makes noise!"

So my sonic looks at me and says, "Oh so you want a sonic that makes noise? Well, I can make noise. Drop me on the floor, I'll make a noise!"

So I do and it makes a dull thud sort of noise.

Now it is just laying there and won't point it's blue tip towards me. I do feel bad for it, but I have set my sights on the new model. I assure it again that I will never get rid of it, but it will have to accept the fact that my affection for sonics is something that I share, and am not exclusive to just one model!

I feel better getting this off of my chest! Thanks for reading!

From everything I have heard and seen the MFX sonic was the gold digger of props: flashy and beautiful at first, wastes all of your money, and then you suddenly see what you are really stuck with. Thank you to the Wand Company for making something we can spend the rest of our lives with.

Well MFX did offer your money back if you weren't satisfied. Here on this very forum if memory serves. I have to say after having a dodgy one and seeing the compare and contrasts research of the TV prop against their version here and on the web i took them up on their offer... and to their credit, they were as good as their word. You can't say fairer than that! :)

My MFX is special to me and I will never get rid of it because of the fact that my father helped me get it. He let me put it on his credit card so that my wife would not ask..."You spent $500.00 on a flashlight?" I paid his card off a few weeks later after a couple eBay sales. He's gone now, but the memory of it still brings a tear and a smile!
