So I could buy say a Tardis key at the BBC gift shop, mold it, and sell copies in the Junkyard? Somehow me thinks that wouldn't go over too well.
Regardless, the gift shop Auryn isn't screen accurate. If we want the books to be as accurate as possible, one of us is going to have to sculpt a better Auryn. It's a project I've been wanting to tackle for years and have been collecting as much ref as I can find, but I just don't have the time right now. But I'm sure one us here can do it.

True that.. Need someone with the skills to sculpt a better Auryn.. Try and get it as close as we can.. Trid, why not offer up what you have so some of the guys can try and work with what you have so we can see this happen.. I too, have been waiting for years for this.. Hell was the reason I wanted to join years ago, so was excited when I saw this topic appear just before joining..

How it goes over isn't the issue, it isn't against the RPF code of conduct. As a reminder, MANY items offered here are duplicates of official or commercial items, and that is kosher.
Can't argue with wanting the most accurate possible, I'd love and treasure a proper replica of this book; it's classic iconography.
I'd be happy to share what I've got to anyone willing to tackle it. Just send me a PM.

Honestly, It has been discussed behind the scenes and nothing has been cast at all.....at all much less recast.
I was unaware that it is still being sold.
So Jenni thank you for your kind and totally innocent offer but it is clear we need an original sculpt, Which has already been settled on and an agreement has been reached I believe.
Please do not derail this thread.
There are 20 other threads about recasting from moral and legal standpoints. Because of this I see no need to suck the fun out of this project.

Yeah, I have seen too many threads turn ugly once the topic of recasting came up!
I just watched Neverending Story last night for the first time in a few years. The book looks so much bigger in Bastian's hands - obviously because he's just a little kid. I am curious to see the scale of it when being held by an adult - to we have any photos that will illustrate it's size in this manner?

Mr. Koreander has it in his lap reading it but I cannot remember if it is in the first or second one.

Yeah I saw that - but you don't get a realy good look at scale from the camera shots used in that scene.
I dunno, I guess in my mind, I am expecting the book to look as big in my hands as it does in Bastian's - but I still feel like when I wanted this book as a little kid watching this movie, so I gotta get used to the fact that it is actually much smaller in my adult hands.
I had thought they were out of production too until I found out otherwise not too long ago. And I'm sorry if my rant felt directed toward you in any way. It really wasn't. I just don't want this project to get shut down, and was trying to err on the side of caution. It truly was generous of you to offer your piece.
As far as the screencaps go, i can't find them. I can only find the one of Bastian holding the book. But it looks to be maybe 11" across the top give or take an inch.
Don't know what will be decided regarding the book, but I'm still definately going to do what I can to help make this move forward. My wife and I are real excited about getting one of these for our collection.
Anyway, I did a mock-up of what the book may look like using a photo album I had at home (and some basic photoshopping) along with castings of the corners and auryn.
Got really psyched seeing it together and looking forward to seeing more updates from folks here on this project.

Omg! Omg! :lol Saw this and needed to clean up Vash.. :lol Very exciting seeing it coming together.. What kind of border size you looking at doing? About 1 and a half cm in from edge?

Trying to get right spacing and color, maybe if printed on vinyl or something this would work..
I also worked on the title last weekend and already sent my proposal to Darthinvictus. Unfortunately I got no feedback.
I used a mishmash of "Times New Roman" and "Baskerville" (for E,G,R letters)
Of course I can change the font color if anybody is interested.

By the way, I know there is no jewel in the eyes of the auryn on the book, but it looks like it was cast with jewels in the eyes. Almost like they made the Auryn necklace first with the jewels and made a mold of that and used a solid piece for the book.
What does everyone else see? What do we want, hollow or with eyes?
