He means the attachment point on the sides (the "E" parts), not the clamp arm that holds the ship!

I know...I was giving him stick. :p :)

Simon,How are you going with signing off on the styrene layout?

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW THIS. :lol

I meant the clamp thinghy's on the side. Not sure what the original piece was though undoubtably a found part. Looks like the Tarp rail you would use on a caravan or something. Were gonna have to get it printed though.

Yeh, to me it's always looked like a piece of commercial extruded plastic or alloy. From memory I think my drawn version was a little off but updating it is more or less a matter of drawing a cross-section. This could not be an easier part to CG model and print; will knock it off tonight.

Anyone wanna have a go at the tooby things at the back? Should we print em of just get em machined?

Easy to do and print but machined like the originals might be a little bit nicer, then cast 'em in resin. Would add a ton to the cost tho so I'm happy to do them in 3D instead if you like; LMK. Just got my first Frosted Ultra Detail piece for the Cygnus last night, small and (relatively) expensive but the surface really is quite nice.

Wanna have another meeting this weekend? Martyn, Paul?

Might be tied up, I'll have to check with the other half. Otherwise sure.

Tch, temper. :p

Did you get that jumper from Guildford station this week, by the way? Poor ******* was on the same biker email list as me.

No problem - I should be able to spare a couple of hours.

Oh Ok! :lol

I've been looking at this myself for the past 2hrs. Looks like there is a little more to the profile than shown on your original drawing. I'll spend a bit more time on it and send you a cross section of what I have. See what you recon. It's very hard to make out exactly though from the ref pics...

Another case where the guy had been depressed for a while but nobody thought it was that bad. :(

Well turns out Paul did all the nutting out for me, thanks man! I think it looks pretty much spot on. I've just crosschecked his cross-section and run up a mesh from it. Looks like this. Paul, do these dims match yours? I'm going mainly from the waist band at 75mm. Shapeways says $15 - it's on there now if anyone wants to print one but I thought maybe we could add a boss to fit the acrylic pieces for the armature cover...yes?

Martyn, nice job!.
It looks like yours might be a tad higher. Mine scales at 25.87mm. Length and width look perfect.

I have modeled the cover pieces in acrylic that fit on the back of the clamp. I presume they are the ones you are talking about? I can send you a model of those pieces assembled if you like?

Groovy. Ta Paul! And yes that's what I meant - please do, I'll work in a boss or location for the acrylic bits.

Great! Oh re the height, I've double checked it, still got almost the same result, check my logic? Using the 'grey primer' side view, rotated so that the clamp is dead level. Scale the image up so that the clamp length is 87.32mm. Measure the height between the uppermost and lowermost edges of the two outermost outwards-facing surfaces (since they're the same surfaces I'm using for the length figure, to avoid parallax errors). I get 23.368mm. If that's so then overall height has to be about 27.42mm, yeh?

I didn't do any scaling from the photos today, but used what I had based on your original drawings and just modified the shape to suit what I belived it should be. When all is said and done we are talking about a difference of less than 2mm!. We'll go with your dims - I can't argue with logic! :lol

Gonna have to keep these kits for the nostromo build. There's the Hornby Pier again.

I draw the line at a 12' Nostromo. :lol

Might be in for the 4' version though...it'd still be studio-scale.

Haven't got the engine water-tight yet btw; sleep caught up with me last night before I could get it sealed up.
