My Reach Spartan Armor WIP

Next...really happy how this came out...I'm not using the forearm in the pics, its too small and I made it a few months ago when my foam skills weren't quite there yet so its kinda sloppy...also the piece that sticks out the top is freehand in case anyone was wondering...

I used auto primer instead of regular primer on my new forearm that i made last night...not sure what the difference was between auto primer and regular primer, but its cracking and peeling all over the nearly perfect and totally badass forearm. kind of pissed off right now...any suggestions?

The suit looks sooo awesome bro but dang man the primer mishap sucks!!! I have no idea why its done that or how you could fix it :(
Hopefully some one out there will have a "light bulb".

I guess I will just let it sit for a day or two and hope it settles...I am not entirely opposed to the look, I'm going to weather it anyway...still needs a couple coats of paint either way. I'm just upset because it came out so nice, it was looking SEXY after I dipped it...should have just left it that way...lol

done with basic paint on the forearm, the whole thing with the cracked primer actually gave it a nice effect in the end. still needs to be cleaned up and detailed along with the other parts but I want to have the whole suit built before I start detailing and weathering to make sure its consistent across the whole enchilada...anyway, on to the next piece...I'm on a roll...update on the next piece, possibly later tonight...

you could try sanding out the primer as best you can and then paint mod podge over the whole thing to reseal it again, then prime that

currently working on the second bicep, should be done by tonight...just wanted to knock this little guy out quick...

woohoo! finished the right bicep tonight! it came out awesome! i was worried it wouldn't come out symmetrical to the left, but its perfect. feels good to have two like pieces done. i have to pick up some more foam, so i am hoping to have the right forearm done by friday night...
anyway, carving and paint tomorrow for this piece. good night!

What brand and thickness are you using? Craft foam and... 4 mm? The foam you use looks very easy to cut and put together (or you're just showing off :p ) I've got a few squares of about a half inch foam, and it's really hard to cut it and get it shaped and glued :/ (but maybe it's just me...).

Just a question from class :D

I use three different thicknesses of foam, the bulk of it is almost half an inch, its just the eva foam interlocking mats you can get at any hardware store. I get mine at Harbor Freight, its way cheaper than Home depot or lowes...
then i use two thicknesses of craft foamies from michaels. not sure what the thicknesses are exactly, you can see them in the pic. i use the thicker one for big areas of detail and deep details, then i use the thin one for floating faces and shallow detail.

and as far as shaping goes, i do most of my work late at night when my kids and wife are sleeping, so i can't do much with a heat gun, too loud. so i use a soldering iron to score the backside of the foam in areas that need to be flexible. deep wide scores in different patterns make the foam very easy to shape...

hope this helps...

It helps quite a bit man thanks :D

Now, I just need a project to use foam for :p (Like I need another XD)

Thanks

just left the candy store (HARBOR FREIGHT, lol) restocked on foam and glue. My goal for the weekend: right forearm, handplate, and cod complete by Monday night...wish me luck...
