My COMPLETED Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver collection......for now;)

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

I guess a lot of it depends on what level of accuracy you can live with/afford, vs if you prefer slightly idealised, or actual functions. Do you go for prop-accurate (which only lit up and might not have been in the prettiest condition), or in-universe-accurate (lights, sounds, not bashed around by actors, etc)
Then again, even with a top-of-the-line replica, you might still want to keep a CO toy version for stunt/convention use.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

In Moffat's mythology River's screwdriver belonged to an unknown incarnation of the Doctor. Unless he decides to do that story (Alex Kingston's not getting any younger), I we may never see that Doctor. Since the 'future screwdriver' is based off Tennant's, I kinda doubt it.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

Or it's a kind of self fulfilling prophecy: the Doctor saw the screwdriver in the library and knew that he have to give River a screwdriver that looks like that and has a neural relay.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think that's already happened.
I think River told the Doctor he gave her the sonic the last time they met. Those scenes were in a series of mini episodes where River (at different points in her timeline) kept breaking into the Tardis and was narrowly missing her past / future self doing the same thing.
The Doctor and River are seen on their last night together before she goes to the Library. I think he was supposed to give her the sonic that night. It's never explicitly shown, though.

Is that on any of the DVDs? I don't have series six or seven.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

That particular mini-episode is "Last Night" - It's on the Sixth Series DVD, but you can watch it on Youtube and such too.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

wow i never saw those mini episodes thanks! its just 4 episodes right?

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

Thank you! That's definitely an option.

The thing with River's sonic always bugged me. It was obviously based on Tennant's sonic, and she immediately recognizes him in the Library.......but only later interacts with Smith's Doctor. How could it be a future sonic, unless it was an alternate future? That's always ben my favorite episode, though.

Yeah, it bugged me too. She seemingly only ever had a relationship with Eleven so why would she think Ten would know her?

But then they side-stepped that by having her tell Eleven that she isn't all that familiar with the order the Doctor's come in. If she does interact with Capaldi she could have believed Ten was a future Doctor she WILL interact with.

But then, when she says "Have we done Asgard?" She should know that he is a past Doctor as she obviously never went there with TEN.

It's a bit of a screw up. Timew-Wimey YAAAAAAAAaaayyyyeeeeeeeaaarrrrrgh :(

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

Perfect timing, I've just come across this thread after doing quite a bit of research on sonics after I bought a Sonic Pen+ Ten's Sonic set.

Which, BTW, the repackaged version I bought (http://forsthaus-bischofswerda.de/blog/wp-content/uploads/sonic-screwdriver-pen-set-i9.jpg) now has a purple (possibly UV, it didn't show lemon juice on paper though) LED and a regular black ink nib, no UV ink. This makes the old packaging the only non-replica/toy Tennant Sonic that has a blue LED, so there's that for consideration. (http://www.stupid.com/assets/images/doctor_who_sonic_pen_and_screwdriver_set_1.jpg)

Anyway, I think you'd love to take a look at this:
Sonic Screwdriver Toys

That should explain quite a few differences that you're looking for between all these toys n' replicas out there, along with the previously mentioned votesaxon07 video toy reviews.

And for interests sake, this should explain a bit on the myth of use of Sonic toys on the actual show (TL;DR- sometimes, as a stunt prop to be tossed/blown up):
The 9th and 10th Doctor?s Sonic Screwdriver (Updated). | PurpleBlancmange

And some more. I wonder if he's a member here.
It?s almost here ? Doctor Who?s 50th Anniversary. | PurpleBlancmange

And while we're talking about River Song's Sonic, before the 50th aired I was hell bent on my own conspiracy theory that since Tennant and Smith would be appearing together in the episode, that Tennant would possibly leave his sonic with Smith before he leaves for his own timeline, enabling Smith to mod it and give it to River on their last night (as posted above). It's already seen the TARDIS creates the sonic, so Tennant could have easily replaced his and still kept everything continuous and plot hole free. Alas, the episode ended up with none of that, but it was a fun speculation anyway.

Also Capaldi's apparently been posting lots of fan made posters on his Facebook page, so I've heard. If its not on any official BBC site, admire, but don't trust it haha.

She thought she'd survive and her older self would go on to meet his younger self.
I don't know why she asked if they'd had the picnic at Asgard. Moffat has said he wanted Tennant to stick around for one last season while he was show runner but that didn't work out.

I'd just be happy for River to leave... :lol

I always wanted to go up River...

DOOM, Thank you. That's a lot of good information, too. Crap, I'm saving bookmarks left and right.:lol

It's good to finally have another prop hobby after all this time. Too bad I can't machine sonics, the way I used to do lightsabers. Those second shift "government jobs" are far behind me. :lol Still, the toys and replicas are pretty cool.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

Uhh.. :eek

Another poacher hoping to catch the uneducated person who falls upon it. I had a similar experience with my book on Amazon. They sell it for $7.49 list price. A re-seller bought a copy and tried to re-sell it for $48.00. Needless to say I was ticked off. My royalties are .35 cents a copy of each book sold, and he/she would make $40.51 profit just for selling it. It took me MONTHS to get Amazon to make them pull it from their listings!

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

Wow. Yeah, that was just ONE of them! I did a new search on amazon, and that was what came up! A lot of them were $78 or so. But......Damn........

(This one, for example) :

But I have a question about the 3rd-one-down, here:

Is that a CO Paul McGann? And is it coming out???:)

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

I believe it's in the same wave as the Other Doctor / War Doctor sonic.
