My Builds: The growing of an eclectic collection

A simple free print but I was happy with my paint job.

This is a quick and dirty paint job of a Rubies stormtrooper blaster for my Home Depot Trooper to hold.

Nothing major. The biggest mod was the addition of cylinders added to the magazine area. It was printed using a free 3D file from Thingiverse. I dressed it up with some black twist ties I found in a drawer. I made a minor attempt to cover screw holes and gaps in seams with household spackle. The rest is just a black spray paint job with some accent painting.

I was hoping this would be an easy build, but nothing seemed to go right. In the end, I just wanted to be done with it.

This was a free file online. I think the body had some issues so some clean up was required . More than I wanted to deal with in this project. The size of many holes for snap in place were too small. Assembly became problematic. I had problems with paint application and drying. Maybe someday I will try again or find something better but for now it’s done.

Here is my attempt at making lemonade after the 3D printer gave me lemons.

I had a failed phaser body. The very end underneath failed to print. The holster failed at the bottom on the back. So along with a bad print of the panel and some test print buttons, I decided to throw them together as a a stunt holster. I made it so the phaser can’t be removed and something I don’t have to worry about if I ever decide to use it for cosplay. I just had to do a quick print of the grip and I had enough of what shows for a stunt phaser/holster. I plan to add some self sticking felt to the underside of the holster to hide the hole and the rough spots.

I decided to give this one another go. I took the original body file and filled in the divot where the double brass screw plate goes. I removed it since it does not seem to be on this version of the original prop. I also remembered I had some of the real parts for the brass antennas.

my wife got me this great Andor Bryar Blaster for Christmas. I hope to star my build soon.

This is well over a year in the making. I finally pulled this kit out of a drawer and built it.

As has been the standard lately, it was a troublesome build. The paint took forever to dry, the paint was supposed to be a lot darker and there is a spring that lets the barrels spin that broke away that caused me to have to rip it apart. Superglue gel was not holding certain parts so I had to switch to a slower drying two part epoxy. Also there were metal rods that were missing from the kit but since the Etsy seller is no longer in business, I had to procure my own.

I may go back and redo the paint job in the future but for now… DONE!
