wacko:cryThanks Howard. The first thing i checked before i took the Falcon away was the mandibles! I didnt want to go through the same hassles you did.
I added black paper over the mirrored base on the Falcon and Snowspeeder. Its a big improvement.

Sorry to dredge up old posts guys , but i didnt want to start another one. I was looking at this thread and i noticed that all of the photos of this model were taken with my small Sony and that it doesnt really do it justice , so , i took some more with my Nikon D50. Here they are. By the way the cockpit interior and has been completely redone since the photos in this thread were taken. I will try and get some better shots of it.

I gotta say I've always been fairly picky about the paint job on the Falcon, and I think yours turned out extremely well, great job.:thumbsup And that cockpit, that's just sick, definitely the way it should have been to begin with on such a model. I've always kinda wondered why MR took the bird as far as they did just to completely blow it on the cockpit. I would really have rather it not been lit at all and more accurately detailed than what they opted to do for a cheap and easy lighting scheme. VERY bad decision IMO. I am curious though, did ya make a concious decision to leave off the concrete colored panels? I don't think it detracts from your model, I was just curious.

Which concrete coloured panels? Have you got any pics please?

Uh oh:confused, hope I'm not the bearer of bad news. Here are two pics, one without outlines and one with outlines around all the "concrete" coloured panels I could remember and make out on the top. The color is very subdued and washed out on some panels. I believe on the filming model that this color was put on in different tones(as were most of the panels). It's very thin and faded on some panels and heavier and more visible on others. If anyone notices some I've left out or wrongly identified feel free to chime in. As for your model, I think the paint work looks incredible, and I don't think it detracts from the look at all. Although if you're an accuracy nut I don't think it would be much trouble to add them in. It's Floquil concrete, although I'm sure you could mix up a Tamiya color to match. Thin it out a lot so that when you shoot it it's transparent on the surface and you can see the base through it, especially up around the turret. I much prefer the Tamiya paints to Floquil as they are easier to use and IMO give a superior finish, that said, when you see the Floquil colours you know instantly, especially with the rust, primer gray, and concrete, that you're looking at the real deal. Hope that helps some.

Seriously, the more I look at your ship the more I like it. I keep going back and forth between liking the darker color of mine and the whiter color like yours. I need one of each, don't ya think.:lol It's interesting that straight grime was ruled out for a lighter 50/50 mix with white when the production ship is actually far darker than straight grime. Never got that one.

My own personal prefference was Tamiya White with a tiny amount of Deck tan.

If you mean the beige colour patches , ther are on my falcon. Maybe the camera hasnt picked them up but i used a weathered down version of the base colour for them.The only one i have missed is the one diagonally from the blast marks. I thought you meant the yellow coloured ones! Im going to do some more touch ups tomorrow.

Yeah, sometimes stuff gets lost in the photos.:lol Post some more pics when you're finished. I keep saying I'm finished with mine but I always seem to find something I feel I can tweak just a bit more. I've seriously gotta stop at some point.:wacko
I've gotta say, I really think yours is the best repaint I've seen posted yet. Your weathering streaks look very reminiscent of the 5 footer, did you do those with the airbrush?

Thanks. Its all airbrushed yes. No pastels or brushwork. I must admit i do tend ti fiddle models alot. Heres a pic taken with my not so good Sony. These are the areas im going to darken a little tomorrow. Seems i missed more than i thought :rolleyes

Wow, Nightrider, I gotta agree, now I don't know which of you guy's models I like the best. The techniques were applied totally differently on the two models, but man, they both look incredible. Well done to the both of you! Makes my own repaint look like crap!!!
