MR Falcon total repaint

Yup TOTAL repaint , and if i can figure how to get the cockpit off i would add fibre optics to it. I was too afraid to mess with my SE one so i sold that and got this standard edition one (at a very good price). I have wanted to do a total repaint since i saw one. The way i see it is that in the end i will have a Falcon thats exactly how i want it . Next time i post some photos it will be in white primer!

Well its white! I am really excited about this. A nice blank canvas. I managed to get the canopy/cockpit off but the interior and bulkhead are in firm so i think i will leave it until i can find out if its lit with an LED or lightsheet. I would love to scratchbuild a rear panel for it. Top gun came off with some persuasion.

Very brave project IMO as it is such a nice and expensive piece as standard..but I understand like mostly all things the accuracy needs to improve.

Great stuff :thumbsup

Is the cockpit, radar dish and gun turret painted? it really looks like
you used 50/50 grime white and reefer white or it's just primer color?

Its just white primer but it does look real close. Im going with my usual Tamiya White with a very small amount of deck tan. I got the main instrument panel off too. Jerry from MR told me that he thinks that the cockpit is only lit with an LED. That would be ideal as i could build a rear wall and run Fibre optics to it.

You are much braver than I would be. It seems to me that only someone who is very talented would undertake a total repaint. Can we see some other examples of your work? You seem to know exactly what you are doing.

Hey Andrew.. WOW.. that's a massive project you're doing. I'm sure it's going to come out wonderfully.

Can't wait to see more updates!

PS. i'm going to email you about a tie fighter soon... heh heh.. =)

WOW! I love the paintjob on the Finemolds! It's much more subdued....fantastic. The others look great too! Are both of the Y-wings yours? Thats a nice little investment.

They were. I sold them on to finance other things.

OK heres the cockpit components out. I had to cut the floor but its OK as it fits well into the nose cone. At least i can now buld the cockpit as i wish.

It is lit by 4 LEDs

Next i gave some parts a wash of black. This has the same effect as painting the whole thing black , but you need less topcoat paint to highlight it. Here are the parts before the topcoat

Here are the parts after the topcoat. Remember this is the basic colour , lots of weathering to do yet.

I have the basic colour. It consisted of 2 jars of Tamiya White with 2 teaspoons of deck tan. I think its a good match. Once the weathering starts it will tone it down a little

The front half of the ship is done now. I will move onto the back tomorrow
