The D+ Kenobi hilt is on my Mount Rushmore. I love how it bridges the trilogies and looks like it’s been through hell. It’s taken me a few tries to get a result I’m happy with but here’s my attempt at a recreation.
It looked like there were few props used throughout the series but I tried to match, scratch for scratch, the hero featured on the Total Film cover which also looks to be the same prop used in the wooden box scene and close-up shot before the final duel with Vader, based on scratch patterns.
At the bottom, I have a breakdown of my process, parts, mods, etc., for anyone interested in that sort of stuff. It’s nothing revolutionary, just the way I went about it.

Finish product:
The Deets
I would have loved to build this from a Master Replicas like the real deal, but those things are hard to come by and it’s probably sacrilege to tear one up so here is what I rolled with:
Base:
Older generation Roman’s Inception - The mid-band chrome is smoother on the earlier gens in my opinion.
Other Parts:
Roman’s Buried Hope brass neck – The raw brass color looks to match the MR best.
Roman’s static two-piece balance pipe – It kinda looks like they used the FX version in the show based on some of the unique angles the FX version has but Roman’s two-piece is too badass not to use when the opportunity presents itself.
KR Sabers pommel – In my opinion, the simplified look of the KR Sabers pommel is a closer match to the MR and luckily the threads match.
Mods
Aside from retrofitting the static balance pipe, which was a pain with my basic tools, the only mod I made was to the gear greeblie by adding the extra angle on the inner circumference and polishing to a mirror finish to match the MR.
Weathering
It took some experimentation to get the look I wanted for the grenade and booster section. In my first failed attempt, I tried stripping the anodization, masking out all the scratches, and airbrushing back on the black. The result was pretty cool but in my opinion, the real thing looked like it was more worn-off wear than flaked-off paint.
In my final version, I ended up using an exacto and sandpaper to match the reference photos. There were a few small areas I couldn't find references for so I had to improvise here and there. After all the scratching and sanding, I dusted those parts with Mr. Hobby matte top coat and used Tamiya Weathering Powder to age the crevasses. The prop looks caked in sand in the wooden box shot but it looks relatively clean on the Total Film cover so I went with the cleaner look.
For the chrome mid-band, I’m letting the scratches happen naturally over time but there was a small nick below the gear greeblie that I replicated with matte enamel.
The copper neck was weathered with a base coat of Mr. Hobby black and a top layer of Abteilung Starship Filth oil paint to feather the edges.
The brass neck was weathered with several light layers of brass black and a final layer of Mr. Hobby black.
The clamp card I patinaed with white vinegar and salt fumes to give it a dull aged texture.
The balance pipe is all Roman’s work and it is beautiful.
Thats it. Thanks for looking!
