Interesting.... you got me searching ebay for completed listings, and someone sold a Matty board already upgraded with Roland's stickers last month. Ended up going for $154. Lucky buyer right there.

yes thats another thing to look out for upgraded boards!!

Are we sure the "lenticular" material is actually that? I got a small sample of the same light diffuser material used to make the 2015 jacket and when layed upside down, gives a very cool bubble cell affect and it is readily available. Thoughts?

Wow I didn't remember the board looked so pink and "fruity". If it actually functioned, awesome but the design looks really dated now.

Yes we're sure. Honeycomb lenticular sheet sold by Sommers Plastics. They even mention it on their site. A couple folks have made a board using the thick plastic diffuser from a fluorescent light, but it looks really bad when viewed from an angle.

And don't bother trying to contact Sommers. Many people have, and all have been turned away as they refuse to do a run of custom-colored lenticular material. Rowland will do it for their identical product, but due to the minimum quantity required for a custom color order you're looking at about 10K USD I believe.

SOOOO glad I decided to get Roland's decal kit. I was on the fence, kind of wanting to preserve "factory originality" and all, but when the original stickers started peeling and bubbling (not to mention the ugly pill-pattern background), that was the last straw. Roland's stickers look SO MUCH BETTER it literally made me mad at Mattel all over again while doing this! Heh.

Originals -- pathetic:

When looking at a replica activates neurons in your brain that formed while studying multiple images of screen-used boards, then you know it's done right. Looking at this board now gives me that feeling. Thank you Roland!!

Great close-up pics! Thanks for your kind words. :) Now you just need a replacement for that ugly foot strap. ;) Just one note: You sticked the pink Velcro as one big part instead of dividing it into two parts.

Wow looks good. I still have the original stickers ( I got lucky in mine are not peeling) but the upgraded strap and added velcro strips made it look tons better,

I kind of think hoverboardgate was the death blow to mattys replica line

The well made and then poorly made Ghostbuster prop lines really was the start of the demise of the Matty prop line, the hover board project and the public relations flubs after were killer for Matty. A new announcement today:

"Just a quick update to let you know that Scott Neitlich has resigned from Mattel. While Scott’s passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for the product will definitely be missed, Mattel has an incredibly talented team of passionate designers, engineers and marketers who are committed to delivering the highest quality products and experiences to our community. We wish Scott well in his new endeavors and we look forward to revealing some exciting new initiatives within the MattyCollector.com world."

His leadership and extremely poor public relations and flat out lies were the killer for Matty. It is good to see him go, it was a case where rather than admit what the problems, they went full speed ahead flat out lying about the production as well insulting those whop called them out on such. THE most terrible ran project as well poor public relations handling by a corporation I have ever seen.

This is clock88's board that he will be producing. It's what a multimillion dollar company should have easily been able to do.

Does anyone currently have an orange hoverboard in their collection? I know Roland and a few others helped out to make the graphics for it, but I've never seen it produced.
