Upcoming Back to the Future
Back to the Future Hoverboard pre-order cancellations accepted

"Hoverboard Customers: Last week at New York Comic Con, we revealed a pre-production model of our upcoming Back to the Future™ Prop Replica. It was developed in conjunction with the original films’ special effects supervisor, Michael Lantieri, prop maker/special effects expert, Mary Anne Lantieri, and the co-producer and co-writer of the trilogy, Bob Gale, and is based on the more than 30 slight variations of Hoverboard props used in the classic film series. If you placed a pre-order, we wanted to let you know that if you’re in any way unhappy with the product we’ve shown so far, you can opt out of the pre-order. We want to ensure every customer is satisfied, so if you prefer not to purchase the Hoverboard prop replica, please visit our Customer Service page and we will gladly cancel any unshipped order. https://www.mattycollector.com/store/matty/contact

I'd hazard a guess that now that people don't feel so trapped, and know they can cancel, most will choose to hold onto their order.

If Matty had studied some basic Psych, they would have known this.

Anyone who has been complaining for a refund in this thread care to tell us straight and plain with no nonsense that they have cancelled their order ?

Looks like my e-mail did go through, so I will be happy with cancelling the order. I think it is wrong to support a company that would do what Matty did, with the bait and switch, as well how it has treated those who have called them on it.

I've been one of the most critic with Mattel, but I still doubt about cancelling the order or not.
I may cancel it, because I think that they haven't do the things right, but I may still get it and use it as a "base" to make a much better and accurate hoverboard (I know how to work fiberglass).
bttf123 hoverboards are amazing (a friend of mine has one), but they suffer from lifted decals and things like that with time, even taking a lot of care with them.
I don't know, maybe I'll get the hoverboard from Mattel after all, and make a complete rework on it to make it accurate. I'm more concerned about decals, velcro and footstrap / footpad than beveled edges of milimeter-perfect measurements.

I don't know. I'll think about it this weekend and take a decision. It was meant to be my christmas present (I always get something from myself to myself)
It's great that they give the option to cancel now.

I dont see any sense in canceling my order. This is the first and probaly only time an official replic f the hoverbard will ever be made. The Flux Capacitor is rare now and the Hoverboard can only go up in value. I would be mad to cancel my order, its the only official replica!

well your reasons are why they think they can get away with what they just did. And from how I see it, the Hover Board that they're selling is far from being an "official" replica. This will not be the last time this will be released. 2015 is around the corner, and I'm sure this money hungry company will try to milk some more money out of the Hover Board.

And yea, I've seen fan made Hover Board that is more accurate than whatever Mattel is releasing. And I'm building one and I assure you that it will look a lot better than this.

I don't mean to sound like a **** or a moron, but can someone explain to me why they're are so many complaints about this board? Most people are saying that it isn't 100% screen accurate. I see the NYCC board has a pink handlebar hole instead of black, and someone mentioned that the graphics are solid instead of holographic, but are these differences really that big of a deal?

It still looks like the hoverboard in the movie, and anyone who sees it is going to recognize it instantly. Most people probably won't even see the inaccuracies because they are so negligible.

With the bottom molded in going to be hard to do a mod.

"but can someone explain to me why they're are so many complaints about this board?"

First, Matty advertised the board with a lenticular graphic, movie quality replica. Had the original prop masters show up and with video running was show measuring with calipers to get everything precisely correct. What came out was nothing near what they advertised and with much cheaper materials such as inaccurate stickers instead of the lenticular. As the mistakes were pointed out, Matty got indignant and on their own forum tore into those that were trying to help them along. Instead of listening to the customers, they insulted them continually and made constant promises that they did not keep with each new prototype release to the public eye.

The lenticular IS a costly part of the board, not including that is to cheapen the product greatly. Not going for the precision parts as advertised also cuts down on a collector value for those who find such detailing important. Most collector feel that down the road, it is likely a prop may be re-licensed and how well the previous prop incarnation is engineered will determine the holding value on a collector market.

Cheapening a pre-paid item and changing the terms is a valid reason for a customer base to get upset. Worse when Matty treats their customers poorly in the process.
