MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

Hey guys, I thought I'd share this with you all, its a pretty cool/accurate set of hoverboard blueprints. They can be printed on draft paper from a kinkos for like $5 and they look awesome, if I'm not mistaken they print actual size. Makes a pretty sweet poster

I don't think the measurements are right. First the length and width of the board are too big, so if everything is scaled to that then everything must be off.

:D thanks guys! I would if i could but i can't see that i'll be making hoverboards again unfortunately

Instant No Button! Star Wars funnies FTW!

Could this all be an advertising trick by Mattel, and when this thing is shipped, it turns out to be amazing? So far there is a lot of folks that anit happy with this hoverboard. Im still trying to be positive about it, here's hoping we will be blown away.

What exactly is the rationale behind this theory? That after months of really poor word of mouth it's suddenly good and can reverse the damage done to the company's reputation?

Its an old politician's trick, get people's hopes down, and then produce something good, they will think your a genius.

Or convince people your product sucks...... Have people sell their pre order of the board on eBay to someone who doesn't appreciate the prop/toy as much

Leaving behind a bad taste in the mouth of people like us towards Mattel and mattycollector

Scott Neitlich had an interview with MTV dated October 16th I think.

He had the Hoverboard with him.

First off it didnt work, he had to shake it hard and then bang it to make the sounds. The interviewer said, "Its not working" Scott said and I quote. "It's temperamental"

Once it worked the sounds itself didnt sound like the ones in the movie, even though they were lifted from the Movie.

Secondly, again like with every interview he was ambiguous, when asked "Does it Float" he replied "Not exactly" (Is Mattel trying to fool dumb people?)

If it sells well, he suggested there will be a year two and possibly a pitbill.

Just saw this link posted on Twitter.

Upcoming Back to the Future
Back to the Future Hoverboard pre-order cancellations accepted

"Hoverboard Customers: Last week at New York Comic Con, we revealed a pre-production model of our upcoming Back to the Future™ Prop Replica. It was developed in conjunction with the original films’ special effects supervisor, Michael Lantieri, prop maker/special effects expert, Mary Anne Lantieri, and the co-producer and co-writer of the trilogy, Bob Gale, and is based on the more than 30 slight variations of Hoverboard props used in the classic film series. If you placed a pre-order, we wanted to let you know that if you’re in any way unhappy with the product we’ve shown so far, you can opt out of the pre-order. We want to ensure every customer is satisfied, so if you prefer not to purchase the Hoverboard prop replica, please visit our Customer Service page and we will gladly cancel any unshipped order. https://www.mattycollector.com/store/matty/contact

Hmm, this is a game changer. Part of what had me so ticked off was them forcing this on me when it was so poorly done. Now that's it's entirely my choice, I'll need to take a good look at the board, resale values, etc and go from there. That said, the way they've handled things up until now has really destroyed my trust of Mattel.

His problem in the MTV video is that he didn't just hold it flat to turn it on, he started with waving it all over the place which doesn't give it the signal to turn on.

What does a "year two" usually mean, just a release of the exact same product, or an updated version?

I tried to cancel my order per the noted site above and it noted no record of my order. Looks like as it is a pre-order, Digital Rivers cannot cancel it until it has been processed.

I'd hazard a guess that now that people don't feel so trapped, and know they can cancel, most will choose to hold onto their order.

If Matty had studied some basic Psych, they would have known this.

Agreed!

Is anyone else really worried now about the sound effects? If anything I was holding out hope this might be saving feature..

But what I could hear from the video here, it sounded NOTHING like the movie board. :confused:angry
