Marvel sued over Avenger's BluRay Case

Saw this posted by a friend on Facebook... apparently it's just a fan concept.

I think I like the briefcase, though.

I think I like the briefcase, though.

Yes, it was a fan made idea that was shown before they announced the set.

I agree, the briefcase is better... and smaller :)

I loved the carrier idea, when I saw the case I thought it was even better. It was the first time that a prop was so well incorporated into a dvd set release that I am aware of. There have been figures and bust, but an actual important prop within a prop was just so cool. And they got really geeky with the individual personnel files, just awesome! So yeah, really looking forward to the set as well I did not have all the disc and looked forward to getting the set to see what I had missed.

So, wait a sec. Does anyone remember the specs on the thing from pre-release?

Was it actually going to include anything different ON THE DISCS THEMSELVES? Or were the extras going to be stuff like what the Blade Runner set had? Doo-dads, books, that sort of thing.

My main concern and reason for thinking I might want the set, was that I want to make sure I have the most complete DISCS, with all the various special features. I don't actually care about the rest of it. So, bottom line, do I need to wait for the box set (or at least details of the next iteration thereof) or were they always basically just planning to repackage the existing DVDs and offer a bunch of extra prop-type stuff with it, but no new discs or new features on the discs?

It was each movie, plus a special edition disc availible only with the set.

It has the dossier for a bunch of members and the case with removable tesseract

I had a long rant, but screw it. We're just arguing in circles.

Yup.. most people are just repeating themselves or others prior in the thread.

It's not going to come out this way but these things happen. Maybe they'll rebuild the old one.. make it better.. stronger.. faster.. I mean, they have the technology right :p?

There is a perspective here that it seems no one has brought up. Given Disney's past behavior, I could very easily see a situation where Disney was given a settlement request, and they dismissed it as a cash grab. Disney is a very profitable company, and I doubt they really gave this much thought. Even though they were probably in the wrong, my guess is this was their response: "You want to sue us? Fine. Looks like we're done here, along with any future business. We have the money to make something else, and people will still buy it. So take your suitcase and shove it where the Mouse don't shine."

The offer that Amazon is giving sounds more like it's coming from Amazon, not Disney, given that no one else seems to be offering it. This sounds like Disney may be playing hardball right back, and leaving the retailers (and ultimately us) temporarily in the lurch.

As for the set itself, there was an "archives" disc, but it may have just been the special features from the individual releases. The big selling point was all the prop stuff (cube, case, paper props).

Ok, so, to get the most content on disc, you gotta get the box set, and only the super special case-with-doodads version.

"There is a perspective here that it seems no one has brought up. Given Disney's past behavior"

Actually, it has been brought up several times with the statements of Disney getting treated how they treat others as well the talk about company cultures clashing.

Gotcha. Guess it's best I hold out then, if I want that extra disc. Although I'd be curious what's on it and whether it'd be stuff I'd actually look at.

Target has en exclusive bonus disc in their releases, containing a 90 minute documentary.

Also, I don't believe the 10-disc set will include a digital copy or the soundtrack. So if you want all the available content, you'll have to double dip a bit.

sucks that Marvel/Disney weren't smart enough to realize that "recasting" someone elses property is illegal unless you get proper licensing and permission. Of course the only ones actually paying are the fans like myself.

I can wait though. I will rent Avengers and when the box set comes out I will decide whether or not I want to buy it.

:popcorn

I don't care as much about the digital copy, really. I can always just rip my own discs if I want a "portable" version. I'd just like to have as much of the cool extras as possible, in case I decide to watch them....which is probably silly, since I almost never do watch those anymore. :lol

I had it preordered. I actually still have it preordered with Amazon.com. They were at least awesome enough to give me the Avengers on Blu-Ray for free. Now my preorder is still just chillin there waiting until Spring.
