Damn that's looking great! If you're going to wear it, I'd consider making the teeth out of black EVA foam. If not, maybe BoochieBoy's hardboard method???
Regardless, it looks awesome and once you paint them (assuming a flat black) any imperfections will be harder to see.

Got my helm all "clipped up". Hoping to resin the outside tomorrow night. Will the resin on the outside hold it together enough to take the clips out and resin/glass the inside?

If you haven't resined the helm yet I would recommend placing some double up tin-foil/aluminium cooking foil between the face plate helm and jaw before clipping the parts together. This makes it a LOT easier to separate later on. just a tip

The ears have a coat of red on them. I decided to finish off the pepped ones I did. They don't look too bad. Not sure how folks attached them without getting crud all over the ears and the helmet though.

Also, I've seen the teeth in black foam, but am not really sure what color they are supposed to be. Right now, mine are red, just because I sprayed the entire main part red.

Waiting for this paint to cure a day or two before I tape it off and paint the other upper lip section gold as well...

I decided I'd epoxy a piece of scrap wood to the inside of each ear piece so the wood would contact the main helmet, then epoxy to the helmet. I had previously cut and resined in the acrylic screw holders you see in the pics, thinking I'd attach the ears with a screw from the inside, but I cut the acrylic pieces too short and they don't meet the sides of the helmet, plus I figured they might rotate around the screw with only one point of contact... Hopefully this will work.

Painting done (except for the teeth). My son and daughter are modeling for me since it's hard to take a picture of myself wearing it... Hard for me to take sandpaper to where the ears attach...But I knew it had to be done so the epoxy would adhere...

Well. I started the first pep around August 20th. Finished the second one around 12 September. The outside resin coat went on both on 14 Sep, so it's been a bit longer than that...

Seeing as how I don't have a REAL job, I probably have more time than most to work on mine. It keeps me busy when the kiddos take off for school. Putting hinges on and motorizing the faceplate intimidates me though since I've never done anything like that at all. I'm good with crafting, but electrical stuff--not so much.

Been working on designing hinges for my helmet. I think these will do the trick. Now need to actually fabricate them and install...

At first I had the faceplate resting on the helmet, but was having problems getting it to clear the rest of the helmet when moving, so I put some foam underneath the faceplate and took pictures of it that way. (Also, I didn't want the faceplate sliding along the top of the helmet...so using pivot points based on the faceplate being up OFF the top of the helmet would make sure it didn't rub.) Then I merged the open and closed faceplate pics and used other RPF members' tutorials to figure out the pivot points. I blew up the pics to actual scale and cut and glued the faceplate and other part to cardboard so it would be stiff enough to work with. I also wanted it to be to scale so the hinges would be the correct size when I used my mock ups for templates. Through trial and error, I came up with some hinges I think will work. My top hinge incorporates a stop so the faceplate doesn't go too far back.

So, I got my 300 LED SMD White flexible 5M light string yesterday and cut and soldered two of them with jump wires in between and hot glued them to my acrylic lenses I scribed like ProjectEarth7. Then I mounted the lenses in my mask and walked around with the eyes lit up. Worked GREAT!...until I went into a dark room. Then I couldn't see anything. Guess I'll have to rework the lenses by boxing them up, covering the back and will have to just resort to looking out of a gap below the lit portion as most of the other folks do. Cable between the lenses needs to be shorter so there isn't all that excess. I also think I need to do a second set of three lights on each lens, maybe coming from the top and off set with the others so the light is more even...

Also stripped an old computer for wires, 3 fans and some switches and input devices. First time I ever did anything like that...I was pretty intrigued with everything in there and had fun removing it all to use on my build...is that weird or what?!

Went to a local sign shop and told the owner I needed about a 1'x1' piece of WPFM sticker (those stickers with the holes used as window signs that you can still see through from the dark side...) and some Sintra to try as materials for an iron man costume I was building. He gave me a funny look but since I'd been in there before buying 6'x8' cloroplast sheets to make a ginormous enclosure for our cavies, and he had made the car magnets for my photography business, he knows me and gave me some scraps for nothing. So I'm going to try one more time for full eye lenses using the sticker like MIMI2 did and see how that works in the dark. The sticker has a sticky black side that will be attached to the acrylic lens and a white side that will go on the outside... Crossing my fingers

Just finished making the hinges. I'm using plastic from one of the computer's I've stripped. A couple of the pieces (where disc drives are inserted) are just the right width and have extra reinforcement plastic. A couple of others have some extra reinforcement and even have holes already drilled. Don't remember where those were...I think they helped keep the drives in place. I doubled up the plastic on the angled hinges since it wasn't as firm as the straight pieces. Just scored my reinforcing pieces in the right shape with an exacto, snapped them and used gel superglue to attach.

Hey TryChick - how's the build coming? Did you get the hinges/servos working?

Here's another interesting hinge idea that I might consider if I ever get that far...(had to put the helm on hold in order to finish some Halloween stuff).

After I mounted the grey plastic hinges, I decided there was too much flex in the back ones (funky shaped ones) and I was afraid they'd break, so I fabricated four metal hinges. I used 6HL 1/2" X 3" mending plates for the lower hinges. I cut the smaller part to fit, drilled two of the holes to fit the binding posts (Chicago Screws) then used JB Weld to attach--I'll attach the servos in the last hole on the short arm. I couldn't make the back hinges out of the same plates because the holes were in the wrong spots and I'd have weird cut outs along the length, so I got a steel plate and cut it to the right shape. Guess I should have gotten thicker steel because they were too flexible. Also, the 1/4" binding posts were so wide, the hinges were sliding horizontally along the post. I fabricated new back hinges with thicker plastic and painted them silver to match the others. This is what they look like.

Also, the eye lenses have posed problems. I'm still deciding if I'm going to use the first setup which is (.5mm thick) acrylic sanded on both sides with the 6 LEDs shining through the plastic from the top of each lens. With these, you can't see through them, so I have to look through the bottom gap. My other option is the second setup shown. This has IMIM2s set up with the PWMF sticker and the LEDs mounted in front of the sticker for indirect light. I can see out of these, but vision is not super. I did try PWMF sticker on the first setup before I sanded the lenses and couldn't see squat in a dark room...

Still waiting on servos to arrive before I can motorize...
