Is it sad that I’m actually looking more forward to The Bad Batch tomorrow than I am Mando?
No doubt that the costume dept. is not going to make a one-off in terms of costumes. Pieces will be made in high numbers (wear & tear) for action shots and that's another kind of planning. Armor is still done with the normal ABS (stormtroopers for example) and that is exactly the same material/design that the original had in the beginning. Putting cosplayers in a scene/shot, either in the foreground/background is also a better use of "cheap" effects. As long as the Union is on board with thatI always see the comments like those here about how no matter the property, the Fans have better costumes and they should just let the fans do it in their costumes, and how much better it would be. I have a fun story on that.
To help promote the launch of Halo: Infinite, MicroSoft's European Division actually did reach out to some of the members of the Halo Costuming Group, the 405th, in Europe to help them film a little short promotional video thing. By the end of the first day of shooting the costume of nearly every single member involved was damaged or broken or unable to be worn until repairs were completed, which they had to scramble to do overnight in their Hotels, and not nearly all of them were able to fix their costumes back into a useable state for the second day of shooting. And these weren't like action filed stunts, it was things like running through a quarry, or walking up or down a hill.
There is a massive difference between making a costume that looks cool for pictures or a Con, and making a costume that is functional for filming.
Exactly what I was thinking.
I feel like this sentiment is a little misguided, I wouldn't blame the cosplayers for their armor not surviving shooting since that wasn't the intention of the armor build initially. Also amateur/hobby builds are exactly that, they aren't shop veterans usually, though some are. The blame is on Microsoft for not searching for those members who have more practical experience rather than allowing anyone with a costume to come wreck their stuff.I always see the comments like those here about how no matter the property, the Fans have better costumes and they should just let the fans do it in their costumes, and how much better it would be. Man, Din gets absolutely wrecked in this one haha. Thought it was wicked that Mandalore was actually turned to glass — I'd assumed that was just some dramatic phrase being used, but no. That scavenger droid creature was awesome, very Grievous-like, especially in the sound design. Grogu to the rescue! Happy to see the little guy finally holding his own and having more agency, establishing his role in the story beyond being a cutie. Bo-Katan was great, surprised to see her team up with Din and help him find the mines. That was a nice subversion of my expectations (although they could still be rivals later this season), and I was pleased to see some some real conversations between the two and her finally passing some knowledge onto him. And seeing her wield the Darksaber with ease...I hope she stays friendly with Din and teaches him how to use it. Bo telling Din that her father died defending Mandalore and Din responding with "This is the way." had me rolling. And holy cow...the Mythosaur reveal had me yelling at my TV at 4amI knew we'd see one eventually, but not so soon!!
Bo's comment about all the in-fighting and fracturing of the Mandalorian people being their downfall was the most important story detail I took away from this episode — I believe that's what this season will really be about. Din working to unite all the clans and get everyone on the same page, so they can enter that "new age of Mandalore" with the "mythosaur rising" that the Armorer has spoken about.
I saw an interesting theory on Twitter last night. As we know, the Mythosaurs are supposed to be extinct. Could this one have awoken from its thousand year slumber when Din entered the Living Waters because it sensed the true ruler of Mandalore? But if that is the case....why'd it try to drown him?
My only real gripe with this one is it retroactively makes Ch. 17 an even bigger waste of time. Not only did that episode repeat information from TBOBF we'd already learned, but it spent half the runtime with Din trying to fix IG-11, which as we learn in Ch. 18 wasn't even necessary. Maybe the Jawas will find an IG memory circuit and they can revive IG-11, but at that point what for? Maybe there will be a good reason and I'll feel differently when we get there, but as of now it feels like a strange misdirection that serves no real purpose.
Keep them on standby. Picard is on tomorrow.
Ahh good point. He removes his jetpack too, so he was doomed to sink like a rock. You're definitely spot on. Good thing Bo was there ha!Don't think The Mythosaur had anything to do with Mando dissapearing into the water,....the steps were destroyed,....he fell with the weight of his Beskar
Din didn't have a problem yielding to Bo-katan and giving her the saber. With the cyborg having beaten Din Djarin and then Bo-Katan Kryze having beaten the cyborg.... Why does Din and Bo-Katan not think that Bo-Katan deserves the right to the darksaber now?
The real reason is of course: because it isn't Jon Favreau's plan ... but still. It that irritates me.
