Mandalorian S2 multi-barrel blaster

its probably just for looks, from what I can see there is no indication that that detail ever existed on the original flare gun

Good eye! To me... that looks raised. There is shadow on both sides of it, and it's reflecting fully - so it's all on the same plane as the highlights of the gun. It actually looks like a greeblie...

I'm of the opinion that they repurposed tortoise shell grips from an air pistol. I had no idea there was a slotted screw right at the top!

You know.....I think you're both right. I'm starting to think it's like a flat piece of metal. Near the pin it's actually recessed into the wood just a little. As you get to the edge of the grip, and the wood tapers "down" to the contour of the grip, then the metal piece is no longer recessed but goes over the wood and overhangs in front and above the metal part of the grip.

Does anyone happen to know the EXACT diameter of the MP40 barrel nut? I'm modelling this blaster in 3D and I'm hoping the barrel nut can lock in the scale. Or if anyone has an actual Sedgley flare gun the diameter of the receiver above the trigger would work too. Thanks!!

Thanks, I'd really appreciate it. I've been searching online and I only found one auction for an MP40 barrel nut showing a size in the description. Using that size results in the blaster being 400mm long which seems really wrong. So either the site was wrong or they machined their own for the show.

crap I forgot about this - sorry everyone, health crisis that started last week, should be okay in the long run, but something that takes longer than normal to heal

I'll measure up my barrel nut asap

40 mm diameter at the base
32.3 mm inside diameter (technically including the height of the threads, I can't measure to the base of the threads)

Most of the inside is the base of the threads but there is a step after that raises up to a little more than the height of the threads __^_^_^_I

Then after that there is the reduced section
26.4 mm inside diameter

It is 9 mm in from the tip of the nut, or in other words, it's 9 mm long and goes all the way to the front

i'll doodle it

Thanks so much for that!!! (I hope you are feeling better, BTW)

Those measurements were SUPER helpful, but I'm afraid I've come to a bad conclusion. I think they machined their own barrel nut.

I work in a photogrammetry environment for a living and I realize that we don't have focal lengths for any of the photos online or screen captures, so it's impossible to know for certain, but I've taken 4K screen captures of the episodes along with pretty much every "near orthogonal" view of a Sedgley flair gun that I can find. I've done measurements in photoshop and compared the ratios of the lengths of parts and as best as I can tell, the MP40 barrel nut, which should be 40mm in diameter, is coming in more like 32mm on the screen used blaster.

If the barrel nut were indeed 40mm, that would make the entire pistol approximately 415mm in length. I did a test 3D print of the grip at that size and ended up stopping it. It looked REALLY big. Like not a pistol anymore but a hand cannon.

The barrel nut needs to have almost the same diameter as the barrel of the Sedgley, at the end that opens and takes the flare. As a sanity check I looked at this photo:

This is the Sedgley. It takes a 10 gauge flare cartridge. This cartridge has a bore diameter of 19.69mm, not including the lip at the end of the cartridge. Assuming maybe a 2mm lip at the end of the cartridge, measuring the ratios of the diameter of the hole and barrel, you again come in around 31 to 32mm.

Also, if you look at the photo near the beginning of this thread where he's holding the gun to Din's throat, the barrel nut looks pretty tiny compared to Din's helmet.

So my opinion is that they machined their own smaller MP40 looking barrel nut. :-(

Awesome diagnosis. That at least makes this easier than trying to hunt down yet another obscure part. Could it be possible to make a custom 3-D printed metal part for this then?

that's a great diagnosis, thank you! funny, it looks like the sedgley barrel is so small it would fit inside the nut itself.

So, this is interesting, maybe they took the idea of an MP41 barrel and made their own too. The sight just doesn't look like any airsoft or real sight hood out there

Editing this comment. the milled flats are HUGE compared to the rest of the nut which is not the same shape as an original

So do we have any confirmation that the base is an actual vintage Sedgley, or was it simply inspired by the design like with Mandos blaster and the 1894 Bergmann?
