Man, Avatar kinda sucked, right??

Oh' man, almost forgot! I must've blocked this out.

The girl cat thing kept doing the Zena yodle....yi,yi, yi, yeeeee! :confused

I think Avatar is amazing. The 3D is great. The environmental design is spectacular. A great pro-environmental message. I liked the characters. It was fun. It conveys a sense of wonder we haven't seen in movies in a long time.

You mean Halo: The Movie (with the best parts taken out)?

Seriously though... didnt hate it but the over-hyping made me start to. It really had nothing original but it was good enough for an afternoon with nothing else to do. After watching it once I had no desire to see it again.

I'd rather revisit this than any of the Transformers movies, G.I. Joe, half the Harry Potter movies, most of the horror remakes, Iron Man 2, all the Spiderman sequels, all the Hulk movies, all the Fantastic Four movies, Jonah Hex, Clash of the Titans remake, MacGruber, Splice, The A-Team, any of the Twilight movies, The Last Airbender, Terminator: Salvation, Wolverine, Night at the Museum 2, Land of the Lost, and probably 2 dozen recent blockbusters. And I saw all those, well most of them. I didn't go back for Transformers or Twilight sequels.

So you were underwhelmed. Guess it's not for you. Maybe the high anticipation ruined it for you. My point is, it was pretty decent, and worse movies come out every week.

Uh... so it's better than a load of truly execrable movies. Some recommendation, lol.... For the praise heaped on it when it came out I wanna read that it's Lawrence of Arabia in space or the new SW, not that it's better than the A-Team movie....

The 3d was a true jaw-dropper for me, but i have a really hard time re-watching Cameron movies....i don't know what it is, but anytime i go to put on a cameron film on BD or dvd, i always think...."aww, jeez.....i can't watch this crap again...."

... and I love Pocahontas too BTW.

I'm afraid it doesn't take too much to make me happy, and it's why, for example, I adore my $$$$$$$ props, as much as my $ ones.

Haven't seen it either and i also have no interest in seeing it.
Really i can't sit through a whole movie just for the visual effects and from what i've read thats all this film has going for it.

My wife put it best as we were watching it. She said, "You'd make me watch the blue kitten people, but Dancing with the stars is too much for you??? I was left defenseless against such logic.
:lol (y)thumbsup

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on Avatar as I walked out of the theater. Good 3D effects, high-end video game quality CGI (I never once believed the blue kitten people were anything other than CG cartoons), solid performances (particularly Stephen Lang), standard storytelling. The most overrated film since Home Alone; not entirely unwatchable, but really not worth seeing more than once or twice.

I loved the effects and thought they were truly immersive at some points, but the story was just painful. Watched it again on TV and just couldn't get through it.

I think that Cameron deserves a lot of credit for getting 2 dimensional cardboard cutout characters converted into 3D.

What I'm saying is that I suspect I will only appreciate it in any substantial way if I watch it in 3D. Otherwise I'll probably just say "Meh. About on par with the Clash of the Titans remake." Diverting, but little more.

I watched CoTT last night. Now THAT is a seriously sucktastic movie. Dear god. Giving the devil his due, Cameron is a far, far better craftsman.

Trite and derivative as his scripts may be, he at least understands how to introduce and develop a character*, how to foreshadow, how to construct first, second and third acts, how to direct action and how to edit a picture so that it's not a disjointed mess.

Avatar flows very nicely, the characters are stereotypes but likeable ones, the action is always clear and fluid and the general look of the picture is gorgeous. Definition is so clear and so detailed that there is a real sense of world-building. Even if it works mainly as eye-candy it's for once no disservice to say that, because the eye-candy in question is just that good. In 3D on the big screen at least. It's not bad on my old 68cm CRT tv either, but in the cinema, my god, it was pretty.

Wuher's comment is absolutely accurate. So's Colin's riposte, for that matter. I'll agree with more or less any criticism of the film OTHER than the charge that it wasn't entertaining. It's a damn silly, derivative film but it's a very enjoyable thrillride of a damn silly, derivative film. I dunno, perhaps that's a measure of just how crappy genre movies have become in recent years?

Whatever; I went in expecting to hate it but I'm too honest to pretend I wasn't converted, even if that's not the trendy party line.

* You know what I mean. I'm not talking Shakespeare here. But compared to Clash of the Titans...

I'll stick to the original Clash of the titans, the stop motion looks more real lol. I think i'm done with Cameron movies, even if he took control of Terminator again it would be a suckfest. He's gone off the deep end ever since Titanic became a hit. I feel bad that me buying the ampsuit toy gave Cameron cash.

I just gotta ask. How many female characters did we get that were able to hold their own as much as Neytiri did? Compared to Uhura, Neytiri pretty much is the main character of the flick and Uhura is just the Disney love interest.

Who cares if a cartoon cat could hold her own??

Did you really say that?...hold-on

Yes. Yes you did!

:lol:lol:lol Bless you! Bless you.

You know, these snarky put downs of people who don't agree with your opinion are getting old. Respect other people's opinions. Don't insult them.

It seems ones opinion is regarded as 'snarky' when the opinion differs from the offended.

However, I digress and am sorry if I hurt your feelings. Hell, I like cats!

In fact, since you're defending cats and those who love them, I'm tipping my hat to Sylvester! How many times did that cat get his ass handed to him and still chase Tweety, right?

Can we hug it out, now? :love

God I love the internet.
