Man, Avatar kinda sucked, right??

I did enjoy Avatar.

I tend to be very critical of most films, but in this case I just went along for the ride. Yes, the story is derivative, most characters are cardboard cutouts, and some of the character motivation and logic is missing from the Theatrical release. But none of it really bothered me as much as the lapses in other films.

I'd rate it as a very competently made popcorn movie.

What??

You imply Avatar is the greatest film of all time. Not easy ground for even Avatar-lovers to defend, I'd've thought...

Not even gonna *try*, Colin! :lol

Rotwang's post was prolly the most concise, fair summation I've yet seen.

Necro trolling?
Who said Jake is religious??

Avatar was great either way. Only two and a half years until the next one...... bah
Underwater adventure in 3D... hopefully just as good or better than the last one :)

Avatar was competent. Making it automatically awesome in this day and age for movies.

It is too bad that Jake abandoned his wheel-chair body for a 9 foot tall, carbon fiber reinforced skeleton, with blue skin...

Avatar was a cinematic experience, to be sure. The special effects were simply amazing. In fact, James Cameron supposedly waited for YEARS to make the movie so the technology would be there to so it properly.

That said, you'd think that in that time frame, James Cameron would have tweaked the story to be at least somewhat more involved than an interplanetary version of "Colonials vs Native Americans."

The story itself was disappointing, to say the least, and there were times I felt like the dialogue was less intelligent than watching Jar Jar Binks talking with Ralph Wiggum.

I didn't go see the movie in the theater - I was hesitant to see it at first (I'm not a Cameron fan) so I waited for it to come out on DVD. Got the movie (used) sat down... and well... I turned it off after an hour. Visually, the movie was wonderful - the effects were amazing. The story was terrible and grossly predictable/slanted. I was very disappointed.

That's my two cents.

Needed less blue cartoons, more Michelle Rodriguez.

Everything's better with more Michelle Rodriguez.

I still haven't seen the first one. I'm debating buying 3D glasses for my TV before doing so...but I'm thinking that's probably a waste of money. And without 3D...well....what's the point, really?

If you must see it - wait for it to come on TV one weekend and set aside a few hours to watch. If you're not excited and you haven't seen it yet - 3D would be a waste of your precious time and money.

The way I feel about Avatar is the same way I felt about SuckerPunch. :rolleyes Just eye candy, but real awesome the way the world of Pandora looked in 3D.
