I admire the passion and dedication alot of people give in re-creating this one item truly to it's original form. I'm also a small woman so if anything, I would be struggling to make room on a small maybe medium size Ladies Levis jean jacket!
I sent a message to the seller about cancelling the piece I ordered. Too late. It shipped out. Now I either suck it up and make something out of it or try to sell it and continue my quest for the exact image. Canadian dollar sucks big time though as everything is mostly US$. Oh well...One day...

You might be able to return it even though it shipped out already. I started off with a wrong tapestry and was able to ship it back.
As for the jacket --- hahahaha yeah that's my issue. I purchased a size small black denim levi's jacket in men's. No way I'd fit a size 40 properly. It's shocking Alex Winter needed a size 40 since he's a petite little brat; broad shoulders I suppose.

Is there any photos of the base jacket without all the patches? Surprising to see it's regular denim, I always assumed it was the black denim. They are always shown at night, though, so I can see why I thought that.

It has been confirmed by the owners of two of the screen used jackets now in private hands that it is a black vintage levis jacket 1980's era with the small brown levis label size 40 with the cuffs and bottom cut off.
If someone has another screen used jacket that is different than that I would love to see some pictures and hear about the jackets origins.

Hand sew. Fabric glue would work but will be messy and if you need to change something your gonna be screwed. A sewing machine won't reach alot of the area's and would make a very obvious line on the tapestries, they are almost like little rugs except for the "ladies", they are thick flannel type material. YES your fingers are gonna be sore by the end of the project, and you probably will never want to sew again LOL

I could have sworn back in the late 80s Bon Jovi had the same jacket in a video, but a long version of it. But I have gone and looked at videos from the era and found nothing. May have just been a thing I thought as a kid and somehow became a false memory.

Yeah the movie jackets were mostly hand sewn from what I can tell. There may be certain areas you can use a sewing machine depending on your skills and what type of sewing machine you use. I would defiantly NOT glue anything though.

I was thinking more so it was shocking due to his shoulders not seeming wide enough for that size. But now that you mention the sleeves... LUCKILY the sleeves on my jacket fall down to where the end of the cuff lays directly above the first set of knuckles on my hand. So I might be able to get away with slicing them off and not losing too much of the sleeve.

Honestly, I am hesitant about cutting into the actual jacket because I don’t want the sleeves too short. If I have to, I might cut through the middle of the cuff instead. I mean, it won't be like anyone can tell due to the tapestries.

Ultimately, I'll find the gloves I want, try them on with the jacket, and decide from there how much to slice off. Don't want to do anything too drastic before I'm ready.

My base jacket is below. Though it isn’t the 80’s style, it’ll do for mine.

Yeah I’ve been studying the jacket ALOT. Aside from replicating it and planning to cosplay him, I also write as him. So every little detail pointed out really helps in those three areas. Cutting the flaps off the pockets will help for sure. I was considering that because otherwise it’s too bulky. Far as the cutting of tapestries. I’m going to get all I need before cutting those and lay them out together.

Yeah, I removed as many layers as possible when trimming parts off my base jacket so I didn't have to sew through so many layers of denim!

Whew, the size difference between a Levi's women's medium and a men's 40 is huge! Be careful if you go that route, because it might be more of a challenge than you are expecting. Here's pictures of me in a modern Levis ladies medium jacket and a vintage size 40 for comparison. I'm 5'9" and pretty thin. There's a big difference in the shoulders!

Yeah, that image I posted above was me in a men's small. I'm 5'8 1/2" and only weigh 105lbs (I struggle to gain weight). So I feel like a medium/size 40 would be way too big for me.

I'm 5'9" and not quite 120 so I do get where you are coming from, though I'm not quite as thin as you! I will say, the difference between men's small and men's medium is not as drastic as the difference between a men's cut and a ladies cut. The jacket also becomes pretty stiff and heavy when you sew the tapestries to it. They're pretty much like chunks of carpet, so some extra wiggle room is nice for ease of movement.

Yesterday I tried on a ladies M at a thrift shop. No go. The shoulders and arms were too big. Granted I stand at approximately 5'0" so I have limits and gotta work with the frame I have. I've struggled with the right fit my entire life. Everything fits too big. Even bracelets fall off my skinny wrists. :-D

Yes it is. I just discovered that. However I found something like it on Etsy but I think the shipping on a piece of trim for me is a little too steep.
