BTW, what's happening to the replica industry in general? Why is everyone using resin? That's the sort of thing I'd associate with cottage industry product made in someone's garage. Fine for them, but not for a full fledged licensed prop replica company.
It is the replica industry paired with mass manufacturing, and it is unfortunate. Even with a limited series of 1000 or so... if these were all-metal and all crafted/assembled by hand, to specifications, they would probably cost twice as much or more. And that is still with overseas labor.
Compare to, say, a handmade claymore from the Isle of Skye in Scotland. There are no moving parts and the detail is relatively simple throughout. Crafting it just takes time, good materials, and a LOT of hands-on and know-how of a master craftsman. $1000 USD, and that was a few years ago and not including international shipping. Historical sword replicas, produced domestically (i.e. Albion), can range from $900 to $2000. Katanas (i.e. Bugei), could be that much for one in koshirae, to a LOT more for a daisho. And these are 'just' swords.
