Licensed Pulse Rifle pre-order

My first one arrived today. #74/1000. It has just the slightest hint of barrel and SPAS droop; I would probably never have even noticed it but for this thread. The only other finish issue I can see is that the Thompson bolt is a bit weak and wobbly, as someone else also mentioned. Everything else feels solid, and there are no paint defects or scratches. All in all, I'm both relieved and pleased. Now we'll see how the OD looks when it arrives tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Ditto on my #99 OD

Anyone got a link to the 'How to open this thing up' thread?

Did tommin's photos of his PR disappear? I can't find them.

They are still there and located on a different thread. (didn't want to be the first here to post pics!!) ;)

I tried to take some comparison photos last night of my new HCG PR with my airsoft based PR.

Unfortuantely the box I had the HCG PR on was bowing slightly under its weight so that rifle is actually tilted and at a downward angle in all the darn shots.... whereas the airsoft based rifle is dead on. I had hoped to have dead on shots of both illustrating that it was in fact pretty straight with no/near non-existant droop. Unfortuantely these don't really illustrate that because of the tilted angle.

Forgive my dingy white towels please.

A big plus about the HCG PR. Boxed with its base it weighs about as much as my airsoft PR.

Not pictured are Nobles sweet straps that I have for both of them.

No droopage on mine. If anything, the barrel slopes UP.
The retaining pin for the stock is stuck in the down position so I can't lock the stock in place. Ideas?

I got mine yesterday, but had too much going on to post.

First of all, no-one is picking up the phones at HCG - WTF???

Second, no response to my e-mail & photos detailing the droopage and other MAJOR defects in the replica. I'm posting my findings here and hope others will look for these problems on their replicas and chime in. At this stage I seriously think we need to start a defective PR thread to get a head-count for HCG. I'm definitely treating this as a prop deal gone wrong, and see no difference between a licensee and a hobbyist in this regard. Bottom line, I want answers, and I expect a resolution NOW.

First, the droopage:

Compare to this shot from SDCC:

Nice, straight, and parallel!

Now look at my GL trigger – all the way in the back, and off-center to boot, just like the entire SPAS cage (more on that shortly):

hcg1.jpg

hcg3.jpg

And notice the GL trigger on Willie’s – right in the middle:

Also, the front of my shroud has aluminum showing through the paint:

hcg5.jpg

how could they get it so thick on most surfaces, and yet so G.D. thin on others? The interference and clearance shown above are all factors in the droopage. More interference below:

hcg8.jpg

Next, GROSS MISALIGNMENT between the SPAS cage and the shroud:

hcg4.jpg

hcg10.jpg

And other examples of shoddy design, workmanship, and quality control:

hcg9.jpg

hcg6.jpg

Gotta love the poor paint job on the shell loading port!

More wonkiness & asymmetry of SPAS pump grip, relative to SPAS cage and shroud:

hcg11.jpg

(Pardon my toilet seat - I needed a lower surface for this shot... :$)

The last one is a minor quip, but no-doubt related to the other misaligned parts:

And if anyone is still in doubt, the replica Thompson barrel does NOT taper, so that can't be given as justification or an excuse for droopage, since HCG did not duplicate the taper of a real Thompson barrel.

That's all I've got. Tried to overlook these design flaws and production defects, but I just can't. The only single nice thing about this replica are the metal shroud and sheet metal parts. Bottom line, the quality and workmanship on the resin parts SUCK. I've seen such nice Matsuo, MIM, airsoft, and other buildups with MUCH tighter fit and alignment over the years while patiently avoiding temptation and waiting for a screen-accurate, licensed replica that these issues only makes my disappointment all the more pronounced...

I'll be gone all day but will check responses & reply to questions (if any) later this evening. Hope this post has been helpful.

Wow. Just... Wow. First the wait, and then this. I'm so glad I had neither the money nor the interest to get one of these. At this point, if by some strange coincedence I came by the money, there's a guy at the Blaster Builder's Club who made one by hand from wood and PVC and I'd gladly give him the entire amount for one of his before I forked over a grand for this QC nightmare.

BTW, what's happening to the replica industry in general? Why is everyone using resin? That's the sort of thing I'd associate with cottage industry product made in someone's garage. Fine for them, but not for a full fledged licensed prop replica company.

I didn't even get one, and somehow I feel cheated. This is so disappointing.

Got my OD 140/250 (to Finland, so quite fast shipping) today. There is some droopage, but I think I can live with it. Exchanging would be too much hassle from here anyway. The launcher trigger is also pushed quite back compared to some other ones here. Otherwise I did not notice any glaring defects. The overall workmanship seems to be adequate I guess.

I'm really liking the OD green color... glad I chose it.

Wow, looking like a lot QC issues happening with some of these other than just the drooping barrel. Really seriously considering canceling my order on this now.

Sorry to see you have so many issues with yours DD. And sad to see you are not getting any responses from HCG.:thumbsdown

I got mine today from the Prop store of London (as posted on Aliens legacy with pics) and have got to be honest and say that I am very happy with mine. I used to own a G&P airsoft and IMO it was not as good as my new baby.

I too was worried about my PR and was starting to think I would end up sending it back, however, I love it and she is staying. IF it has the dreaded "droop" then I certainly can't see it.

I don't consider my self to know even half as much about the HERO or STUNT rifles as some of you guys and therefore will not comment on some of the posts on here but, as a simple Aliens/USCM fan all I can say is I'm very happy with my new puchase.

I hope more of you are happy with yours when they arrive, and those of you who aren't, then I hope you get the correct/desired treatment from HCG.

Cheers,
Smally.

You might be able to pop it up with some precision tools, like a jeweler's flathead screw driver. Does it seem like the button is caught on the metal surrounding it (too snug)? Worst case scenario, the spring that pops it up is busted or... missing. After seeing some of these QC issues, I might suspect the latter :( I wonder if more than one factory is making these things, over there. Some PRs are coming out great or at least very good, and others are bad to really bad and certainly not $1000 quality.

It's funny when you first open the box there is a big yellow sticker that reads "QC PASSED".

QC must mean something different in China.

After all this talk it's funny how you chose the picture you did, Tommin.

I chose one of the first pics that I took after initially removing it from the box. When I get some free time, I'll be glad to set up for a proper photo shoot. For you, and anyone else that may be interested to see it.

Until then, please feel free to participate and redline within that thread, as well. There was at least one instance that I requested such feedback and got no response as of the time of this posting. Why is that? Your guess will be as good as mine. So, as for my own choice of picture, I'm failing to see the humor that you are seeing.

No biggie.

Ok I received mine yesterday so its review time. This review is based on the OD green PR that I received, NOT the PR's as a whole because since everybody seems to be receiving PR's of different quality.

Out of 10....I give it a 7. I will explain.

First off I have to say this thing gorgeous! I couldn't say that enough. The detail in person surprised me so much for some minutes I just held and looked at it in awe :love :thumbsup

After the "high" wore off I looked at it in a more serious matter. And this is where the score drops a bit.

First thing I inspected was the infamous droopage issue. I'm one of the luckier ones. The barrel is pretty straight and the GL is mostly straight. There is a VERY slight dip in the GL but not so bad that you can notice right away like some.

The second thing I did was pull the Thompson charging handle...and it broke off VERY easily. I swear I didn't put much strength into it. I just pulled it casually to move the bolt and it broke off. So this is a WARNING for you guys. It could have just been mine but BE CAREFUL. I ended up using some hardcore glue to reattach it. Its on there strong but I'm not gonna be pulling that handle anymore. My brothers and girlfriend were in the room so when that happened it was very embarrassing. :thumbsdown :confused

The second thing I noticed was the GL bolt is kinda loose in mine like some have reported. I wish it was more snug. When it moves its shaky and loose and feels like its gonna fall out or something. Oh well. :confused

The next thing is the GL pump handle. Ok I know this is just me being to anal but I was hoping the handle wouldn't slide so easy. Meaning I wish it was more like a real shotgun pump or at least with more friction. The reason I want that is because when you hold the PR vertical the pump handle slides down on its own a bit. Not a serious issue but I was hoping for more friction so it wouldn't do that. :confused

The next issue happened this morning. And this is a bigger one. I went to remove the magazine (not using any excessive force, I swear!) and not only did the magazine come out...but the whole bottom part of the magazine broke off! I couldn't believe it. So again I hardcore glued it back together. After that happened its making me scared to touch this thing cause whats gonna break off next? ***** oh well...:angry

Well thats about it for now. I understand that this meant to be and only to be a display piece. So thats where most of the score comes from. But I've been wanting this thing since my childhood so it has a very big sentimental value to me. It was very dissapointing when those things broke off with very little force. But overall I am happy with it...just gotta be extra careful I guess.

You are very understanding with the glue considering you have just spent $1000 on it :eek i would be sending it back and getting a refund or replacement and letting them pay shipping.
