Lady Arbitrator AVP style

TheMortalImmortal

I'm grateful to y'all for the inspiration, It's hard to find the words to express how I feel :p except a hearty THANK YOU

Dark Huntress

(no happy giggle emoticon so I'll go heeheeheehee )

Ditto what I said above; I'm glad you like it...
I went to my local tron store and got parts for a second one, that way it will be all on one board.

I love those gauntlets!!! And I was gonna make some thin leather knuckleduster style like what the Predators wear... Guess I modify it a little ;)

While I was on youtube, on the Related Videos I found this, quite impressive:

Theman123, all

I figured out the problem with the LED's, even when I replaced them they went out again.
Turns out they were getting too much current so I put a limiter resistor to cut each one's draw in half.
I didn't want to replace 28 individual LED limiter resistors so I put the limiter in the LED board power wire, easy since boards are separate and power wire goes from main control board to LED board.
It runs on three 3 volt 1/3 "N" type camera batteries.
Total current draw now is .234A instead of .367A so batteries will last longer.

Here's a picture of it installed in the gauntlet, I put a large shrinksleeve tube around it and cut slots for the LED's and switches...
I used wax paper for a diffuser; despite the brightness, the LED's don't run hot.
(oops, forgot the red plastic! should I add it???)

A better front view, I can use this for that writeup I am doing...
I glued a batteryholder on the left end and trimmed the circuit board excess off so it woud fit.

Also all that Kynar wire in the back (aaagh, my eyes! :) )

I'm now starting on the new wristblades, here's one of them covered in that silver tape I used on the combistick.... I've got both covered and am figuring a slide mechanism :(

Dayum. :) That is some awesome skill you got there. lol I felt a kick in my ass to get back to work on mine now. lol

Damn I have been away too long. This is a great suit build and thread. Love the leather and the countdown computer is sick. Kudos!

XphobiaX,

Many thanks for the "jaw-dropper" :(
Hey, now you gotta get back to work

Bovine13,

Thanks for the review That gauntlet countdown was challenging and when I got it working I let out a loud YEEE-HAW :)
At first, I tried using VU meter display driver chips, (its what is used in your stereo to show the audio levels) but got stuck going from the analog input needed for those parts to the digital count part, so I went with the all digital approach- that's shown in detail in the Huntorials/Animated Gauntlet thread.

My husband found a boxfull of balsa wood at a yard sale, I glommed onto it and am making a small frame for the new wristblades then I can add a spring and trigger, and have them either pop out or back in... Did you try this or are your blades stationary? I will search the threads for inspiration.

Update on new wristblades:

I got that balsa wood out and figured how to make a slide mechanism, a guide for the blades and a stop in the front.... temporarily fitted together with rubber bands. The wood will get sanded down after gluing, so it slides into the shape of the gauntlet.

The front of it:

The rear of the slide:
Rearofbladeslide.jpg

The back with the blades slid out more:
Bladesslidoutofrear.jpg

The pattern I used for the slide sections, there are 9 long pieces, a small piece in front for the blade stop, and a small piece that hold the blades:
Patternforlayers.jpg

Next step is the assembly and adding a spring or rubber band plus a trigger :)

More work on the wristblades, here's the video (needs a trigger, then its done)

TheOneAndOnly,

Thanks for checking it out

The blades are stiff plastic from a car mudflap, covered with aluminum tape.
Wonder if anybody at conventions or elsewhere would give me a hard time about that.

The back of the blade slide has a wire loop at the end and I can retract the blades enough so the end goes beyond the main housing and then put a holder in place so it can't pop out (used a long bobbypin) It goes against the main housing and that holds it.

I am working on a trigger, fishing line with a loop for my finger and some kind of catch on the wire loop end.

Also have to add a cocking pull line, another fishing line with a loop....

WOW! That is amazing! I just finished my bladed wirst comp combo today. They aren't animated though *envy* I will improve all my designs when i have better income comming in.

Like always, this is a great thread.

Xphobiax,

Thanks for the props! (sorry about the pun! )

Way to go on the blade/puter, can't wait to see the pix!

I'm now on the hunt for a flesh colored bodysuit, that's the only thing thin enough for my armor to fit over plus find the same material for the neck area....
And trying frantically to finish the small things for the upcoming con

Outstanding craftsmanship! I sincerely enjoy your fresh approach to solving
some of the more vixing problems for us hunters ie. animated gaunts and
mechanical claws instead of animatronic. Class A stuff, keep it up!

Paintninja,

Thanks for stopping by the thread and the review

My photobucket page has a wealth of info, work-in-progress, innards of the wristblades, circuit for the LED gauntlet and the biohelm LEDs...

Visit My Website

Now you got me curious, mechanical claws vs. animatronic.... is it like mechanical (engineers) vs. electrical (engineers  ) How would somebody do just mechanical?

---
Ei'luj

(torment the engineer, again.... give 'em a problem to solve  )

Hey great site, saved to my Favorites, in my Pred folder!
I'm not good with electronics at all, usually outsource that kind of
project.

Mechanical VS. Animatronic:

To me, maybe I'm wrong, the difference is like my animatronic
wristblade device is animatronic because it requires a power source
to operate it. Your mechanical wristblade device is mechanical
because it reqires no power to operate, uses kinetic energy.

I'm currently working on a mechanical mandible moving device for
my Ruffkintoy P2 mask, opening and closing my mouth will operate
the mandibles. All kinetic, no room for batterys.

Paintninja

Many thanks for visiting my site :p ;)

If you want to have the electronic countdown built, the "schematic bottom" pix has a goof, the crystal was left off between pin 10 and 11 of the CD4060...

It is in there in the pix titled "oscillator".

Also in the pix "schematic top" you want to add a 5volt regulator before the switch, you don't need that circle (it is just the symbol for a 5v source for purposes of running circuit simulation.)
That way you can use a 9v battery to run it.

About mech vs. elec, I think mech is easier since its visual and tangible, whereals tron is more abstract...

The animatronic mask is a really cool concept all pulleys and fishing line, brings back memories of physics class pulley problems they would always throw a stumper in there... AAAACK

Dahdtoudi,

Thanks for the review, like a certain Warrior Princess says "I have many skills..... AY YI YI YI! YEEA!"
oops, wrong movie

Quick update, here's a picture of the biohelmet LED assembly, LEDs, resistor, and battery all fit into a case that is 2-7/8" long by 7/8" diameter (can be made shorter....) and a microswitch is on the end of the pair of wires:

IMG_0600.jpg

It takes a 1/3 "N" size camera battery.

I like that idea, looks so much easier! Haha. The shorter version was what we talked about right? if you have the time I'd definately like to have a setup. XpHoBiaX friendly too! (lol 'fear' freindly)

Seriously, you have done a wonderful job and it's amazing to see you come up with solutions to the harder stuff. Just what Paintninja said. I am grateful for your assistance too.
Thank you very, very much!

XphobiaX

Yes, its the shorter one.

I LOVE solving problems (right now working on that pesky trigger for the blades )

Re: assistance You're welcome

Bane,

Glad you like it, I am having more fun than a barrel of monkeys
